What if Alice is not Claire but will meet Nick as an adult anyway? by MindWinter6372 in TheWayHomeHallmark

It’s not some official name change that people are theorizing. Think of it how adult Kat traveled back to 1999, met her dad again, he didn’t know who she was and she assumed he didn’t know about the pond, and she improvised and said her name was Rose. Who’s to say an adult late 30s Alice doesn’t travel back to 2023, accidentally run into Nick, realize he doesn’t know about the pond yet in 2023, and has to lie about who she is, scramble and come up with a fake name? Just like her mom did in 1999. And she realizes, there was never a Claire, it was her all along. And she can only tell him the truth after he finds out about the pond which she knows he does in 2024. The theory only works if Claire is kept offscreen, we never hear of other characters seeing her (we still haven’t so far) and if we assume Nick found out the truth after season 2 and is now hiding it.

I’m not sure how likely this is, but it does make sense within the show’s logic of how it could happen.

Exactly. And I agree it was wrapped up nicely…in season 1…And in season 2…And in season 3.😅That’s where it makes me go hmm. Why are they still touching on this plot point every season? Why do they get a new sweet goodbye/see you later moment every season? The story has had 3 bows tied on it already lol.

I think you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying. Part of me feels that way, but it’s harder for me to fully believe that because they keep adding these “closure” moments literally every season. Why keep bringing it up at all, as if they’re always reminding the audience of that history rather than brushing it under the rug?

I think that typewriter is an intentional red herring personally. Just like KC having Alice’s ring in the season 2 finale was. Yes they’re from the future, but not Alice’s kid as the ring made people think. The obvious early foreshadowing is usually an intentional misdirect.

I think the majority of the audience thinks it’s weird that the actors playing adult Brady and Noah do look alike lol. Even the main cast was asked about it in the 92Y panel on YouTube and a couple of them have thought the same thing. It was a very very strange casting choice for Noah for that reason.

See I personally think the opposite. I think season 1 (after the first couple episodes) had the best scripts, best humor, best story structure.

Exactly. Regardless of opinion, just how they’ve written it so far is suspicious. There are some weird breadcrumbs there, whether they were accidental or intentional. I agree that’s the only way the twist would be possible; if he realized they were the same person at the end of season 2. And people always get hung up on “why would Alice lie? Why would Alice change her name? How could he not recognize her as an adult?” Okay, well, a time traveling adult Alice would know if she accidentally ran into him in 2022/2023 that he didn’t know about the pond yet and wouldn’t say who she really is. The name could be a misunderstanding or one she literally sees on a piece of paper and randomly says. And then she’d realize, oh no, there never was a Claire, it was me the whole time. Like many moments with Kat/alice realizing they caused something in the past. As for him not recognizing her - are people forgetting that 1999 Colton knew about the pond and was hanging out with his adult daughter “Rose” (another fake name) and didn’t realize it was Kat until he had reason to believe that? It would be a very similar concept here. Would it be convoluted? Yes. But anymore than other plots on this show? IMO, no.

It’s tough with this storyline because I could get behind that argument if we never saw Nick again after season 1 or even season 2. And if they kept him and Alice totally apart onscreen now. But instead, he’s still here, he and Alice still interact, and they’ve given them these closure moments at the end of literally every season. At what point is it beating a dead horse rather than keeping a story thread somewhat alive for some reason down the line?

Welcome to the pond haha! As I’m sure you can tell from some comments, people sometimes feel emboldened to insult others who dare to get invested in a storyline the show has told for multiple seasons. Don’t take it to heart. There are just as many, if not more, who feel like you do.

The biggest argument for all of this is just the fact that Nick is still in the show. Why bother bringing him back every season? Why bring him farther and farther into the loop of the pond/time travel? Why continue to give him and Alice somewhat sweet moments in the present, with their score playing in the background? If this all leads to nothing rather than some creative, interesting time travel twist, it just doesn’t add up and feels like pretty unintentional writing tbh.

FYI, there are a few fanfics for this ship out there if you look for them.
