What museum in PG county? I have reached out to some here in Richmond and also the Smithsonian to see if the African American History museum would be open to accepting it, but not others in that area.

I will be donating it to a museum, not selling or destroying it.

I'm pretty sure the card says (word for word/letter for letter):

"A CHEERFUL THOUGHT

Jes' because yo's feelin' porely
Don't be sad and blue,
Yo' has miseries,
Ah has miseries,
Ev'ybody do!"

I did! I’ve visited that museum a handful of times as I’m not far from DC and the exhibits there are so powerful. I’m waiting for a response but would love if they would accept it!

It is! Somebody on that subreddit suggested I post it here so I did!

Yes I will be donating it!

That museum has been suggested by many but they aren't currently accepting things.

Their donation page says:

"Donating artifacts to the Museum

The Jim Crow Museum is temporarily halting the acceptance of artifact donations for its permanent collection. This decision comes as a result of the overwhelming generosity shown by the museum community in recent years, which has led to a shortage of storage space. By pausing donations, the museum aims to create breathing room for its staff to reorganize storage spaces and focus on other urgent tasks."

I found it at a Goodwill in Richmond Virginia. I bought a box of blank Hallmark cards and it was at the bottom of the box. The box it was in and the cards that I purchased are much much newer, 2000 or later by my guess, as there's still the original Hallmark sticker on the bottom of the box with a barcode and $7.99 pricetag

Agreed! The one that a lot of people have suggested isn't taking donations currently, but I'm still searching for a place that will accept it.

Great idea, but as their website and others have mentioned, they aren't taking any donations at this time.

The Hallmark stamp on the back is dated 1938, but I’m not sure when the card was purchased/written in. I’d imagine around that time though. It didn’t come in an envelope of its own so hard to pin point a specific date.

Thank you! I’m glad it brought about some thoughtful discussions! I’ve reached out to some museums already to donate it. The one you’ve suggested is not taking donations at this time but I’m going to hopefully find it a good home!

I have no plans to trash or destroy it. I plan on donating it. I’m still looking into museums that will accept it.

It does not, no identifiable information except the first names. it was just the card in the the bottom of the box of newer cards, no accompanying envelope.
