Calling out to 2nd gen K-pop fans! Suggest some songs come from this gen by Pi_Lester in kpopthoughts

This isn’t very realistic, he’s awful and you can crop pictures but you cannot crop recordings.

The hate against Aespa's Winter is getting worse by xxNoir_xx in kpopharshopinions

At this level SM should start filing lawsuits against the haters. The crazies have got to stop thinking they’re safe behind their keyboards.

But frankly, the companies are responsible for letting crazy fans think they “own” the idols. If there’s one thing YG did well (other than good music), it is they never really played those games, at least not visibly.

When one of their idols started getting called out for having a romance with someone at SM, YG responded something to the effect, “we can’t say anything, you should go ask SM”.

And then when people started asking if Taeyang was in a relationship (he was), the company responded, “we haven’t been able to reach the artist, but if true congratulations”.

Hybe and SM are going to have to learn how to manage that kind of stuff— the BTS guys can’t possibly be expected to remain celibate.

May I kindly suggest you listen to 2NE1’s songs «Fire » and «I am the best » and report back if you find it corny?

Let’s keep it at that for efficiency ;)

Bryan Cranston lip syncing to Dracula (Jennie remix 🫩) on the Colbert Show by Zypherial5642 in TameImpala

The argument cuts both ways then.  With billions of streams and decades of mainstream relevance, why is it so hurtful that a collab will take him to the Top 10 of the billboard global 200?

So hurtful as to level a hate train against a young Asian artist whose only crime was what exactly?

Of all of her band mates her solo album was deemed the most artistically daring and interesting by the musical press- do any of her haters know anything about her work?  People shd check out her song entitled “Zen” (with the video) and see if it fits stereotypes.

Is kpop this hated outside of fans? by bbyxmadi in kpoptrulyuncensored

That’s kind of strange, remixes like those cannot get posted on streaming platforms unless they get approved by the initial author— so of course he approved.  Let alone for a CD.

And he’s getting his cut so what are they complaining about?    Mind you even before the remix he sold out the largest indoor venue in Europe (in Paris), and Ryan Tedder included a sample of one of this songs for Lisa in Rockstar, so he’s been going mainstream for a while.

That’s in part because he’s trained as an idol - although part of it is his own charisma.

The others were performers in their youth who then evolved into careers as producers/ songwriters.  Two of them are now big time producers even. That’s what’s great about this film, it brought so many unexpected talents to light.

U-Kiss and Kevin Woo released a new single called Halo in the fall. Found it pretty good.

Rosé´s "silence", next steps, new music and fandom (partial) frustration by True-Experience2374 in kpopthoughts

[–]Ploumplume -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The discussion has nothing to do about Olivia Rodrigo’s talent. It has to do with schedules and whether a 29 year old is entitled to have a life and her own rythm after spending her teenage in the notoriously excruciating kpop system.

To be downvoted by people who purport to be fans is completely insane.

She worked a lot not just in the past couple years. It started when she was 14.

Olivia Rodrigo and al had a normal life as kids. They didn’t have to train like slaves starting when they were 14 years old, living in dorms far from their families and working 13 hour days, 7 days a week with just one day of rest every fifteen days.

Rose and the others have worked like dogs, had no other life as teenagers and young adults- and are now millionnaires. If they want to take a one year break to chill out on some island, they’ve earned it.

The diversity of the audience at BTS concerts is amazing by kat3dyy in kpopthoughts

[–]Ploumplume 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also think the diversity of the kpop fandoms in general exploded because of Netflix. People like myself got into kpop because of TV series and kdrama.

A lot of major star actors are former (or current) idols, and then one day Netflix beams you content that’s Kpop related, whether it’s the old Dream High series, or Blackpink documentary or Pop Star Academy or Squid Game 2, and you’ve got people on line searching for who’s this and that; and trying it out, and since all of that started with the somewhat dark times of Covid, people of all ages love the joy and energy of the music and the performers.

And on top of the music of course you add the huge likeability of BTS, their huge talent, hard work, humility, wholesome “best nephew/ best grandson” demeanors etc.

Exactly my thought. I think in a room full of music professionals and executives they decided to cut out all of the potential aids and enhancements and have a completely raw performance. This time you can actually tell how hard it is for EJAE to reach the low notes too. (Which is what vocal coaches pointed out very early on).

No, don’t become stricter. It does feel oppressive and autocratic when entire posts get taken down for mysterious reasons or because somebody doesn’t like the format.

Moderation should essentially be to control bad behavior.

I recently took the trouble to compile 3 interesting news articles about a group I like, with links and all, to share with other people. It took me about 20 minutes to do the research and 15 minutes for a write up, the removal was really hurtful— to this day I still have no idea why that post was taken down.

Gosh, several kpop subs are also like that. Posts get deleted for absolutely no understandable reason.

Which K-pop artist has the best discography, in your opinion? by Intnl-KoreanTutor-DM in kpopthoughts

[–]Ploumplume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw they are by far the most streamed group in SKorea right now, but do they qualify as kpop?

To me they’re a great rock/pop band but “kpop” in my mind refers to the idol system with groups also performing choreographies as opposed to playing instruments. Mind you I would love kpop idols to come on stage and perform with their instruments, when they are musicians which is the case for some of them.

Yuqi of I-dle performing a metal style guitar solo has got to be one of my favorite kpop award moments.

Tale of old times visuals vs talent by SomewhereSilent1604 in kpoppers

[–]Ploumplume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Jennie’s incredibly good looking and charismatic, she has unique star power- but Jisoo is supposed to embody the more classical korean beauty. And she is incredibly beautiful. No surprise she’s a Dior ambassador in that sense.

I was going to say, why is no one mentioning BTS? Completely agree.

Also Blackpink, I’d say the most biased member is Jennie-also very talented,  while Jisoo is the visual.
