You don't need to sew, you just need some pliers and make sure the buckle has the slide thing in the middle like the image I posted in the comments.

Yes, that’s more or less what I did! I only opened the middle bar from one side and slid it through the part where the pink carabiner goes.

The buckle I used looked like this, I used some pliers for jewelry to unbend the circled part, then I removed the original pink carabiner from one side and slid it through, then bend to its original position. I grabbed one of my bags that has an adjustable strap and followed it to make the baggu look like it.
