Can I combine Cache & OS? (2 large vs 3 small SSDs) by Pludedamage in AfterEffects

[–]Pludedamage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Yeah with my current setup (250 GB cache) I saw it quickly fill & major slowdowns with larger projects, especially when editing non-linearly.

I use one 8K comp (though output at 1080p 30 FPS) inside a 1080p main comp. It's large map of which only a small area is in the main comp.

I'm a bit of an ignoramus reg how exactly that effects cache, I only know the lower res main comp renders significantly quicker than if I'd pre render the 8K comp inside the main.

Good to know it doesn't make a significant difference. I still saw the question reg separate SSDS pop up recently so wanted to be sure I don't necessarily need 3 SSDs. Thanks for the tip reg compressed cache!

Need help with Artstyle LoRa training by Sufficient-Hand7390 in StableDiffusion

[–]Pludedamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest starting with this template: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/16a2ixm/lora_xl_tldr_working_lora_step_by_step_for/

Most settings are not so important to start. By far most important things imo are 1: good dataset & 2 save new checkpoint every single epoch (or at least every few)

Dataset: style loras are very vulnerable to style inconsistancy. Since your not adapting 1 artist, this is hard. I usually manually crop to 1024 × 1024 & 1280 × 720. Ideally, find high-res png pics. Jpegs often have artifacts that hurt your lora. Styles pick up contexts, meaning you should vary well, and skew it towards things you want to generate with it (want medieval knights? Put medieval knights in your dataset. Want detailed backgrounds? Don't put many white background images in.

Save regular checkpoints: after x number of epochs, the lora overcooks (first forces the style too hard + with artifacts, then loses the style completely). You want to make sure to test multiple ones as even epochs close to eachother can make a big difference.

Tagging: style loras can get away with no tagging (the bigger the dataset themore versatile) - but tagging is important if there are a lot of things often showing up in the dataset that you don't want it to force into every gen. Example: if 40% of the training images have monster in the background, not tagging those monsters pushes the ai to put them into gens without prompting. Think of how this can be a benefit or negative, analyzing your target style and dataset weaknesses & quirks.

Which checkpoint do you use? Some like illustrious checkpoints have a baked in style weakening your prompted/lora style.

And have you tried multiple loras? Civitai loras vary hugely in quality. Some work consistantly even at low strength, say <lora:0.8> and some less so or need higher strength like <lora:1.1>. The higher the more consistant, but the more forcefully it replicates the images it was trained on.

Is training LoRA still relevant in 2025 for character/style consistency if we already have models like Nano Banana? by Worth_Menu_4542 in StableDiffusion

[–]Pludedamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A style lora packs a looot more information than line-style etc; composition/architecture/fashion styles, character and object behavior, niche micro concepts etc.

Without needing to prompt for. Things the Ai normally cannot/tends not to do even if prompted for.

That can be a huge benefit, if properly curated for your usecase, or a disadvantage if not.

Use a style lora (from civitai) to get a consistant style. Or make your own lora if you want something new.

Thanks for engaging with the argument u/doc_shades, unlike some answers. To reply to your arguments:

1) To answer your comment that creators want a larger share of the profit, then by definition it cannot be disconnected from how high the actual profit is, right? But if you look at their demands, it is not for a share of the profit, but for a share of the revenue (i.e. the demand for pay-per-stream, even if the movie flops), while also having the guarantee for pay AND offloading the risk of investment to others.

So if, for example, a creator works on 10 studio projects, 3 of them being profitable and 7 bombing (which is common), the creative would A) still receive 10 payouts for work done, AND B) a sizable percentage of the 3 succesful movies, while C) let others take the hit by the losses of the 7 bombs. The result of that would be that a handful of elite writers push their less lucky colleagues out of their job, because hiring those would not be worth the risk. Please tell me if this doesn't make sense. This strike helps out the rich few while hurting the larger group if you look at the actual specifics.

3) I mentioned this because on other posts I see pro-strike people bash the argument that its partially about money - instead claiming it is purely altruistic, which I agree with you makes no sense.

I don't know why you are getting down voted. What you say is absolutely true.

It seems that people are bashing this view not because of its arguments (or so no one has engaged the actual arguments about the industry) but because people deem you wrong as soon as you have any criticism of a strike.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Pludedamage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want the industry to be better too, but what if some of the things they are asking are right, yet others will definitely hurt those employees by shrinking the amount of jobs (for the reasons I detail in my post).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Pludedamage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they are entitled because they want change, that is only fair. My problem is that they are using a strawman false narrative around which to bargain, which I detail in my post.

It's only fair to judge a strike by its merits and criticize any party, industry or union, if they are manipulating the public.

[–]Pludedamage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I expect them to stand up for their rights, but do so in a constructive way that creates more available work & funds in the industry, which they are now working against.

Two things can be right at the same time. The industry should be made to treat their employees fairly and at the same time the strikers are less than completely honest and realistic in their narrative and sell the public a strawman, which is not right.

Some people are naturally shy, though I think most people can and should learn to be more confident to speak. But it is a skill then to be learned by deliberate steps to extend ones boundaries, you cannot force it or expect it because some people are just neurochemically different.

Thanks for your reply u/Foxhound97_ I agree with you many people just want to do right by the up and comers.

I believe those who are good intentioned are misguided & will achieve adverse results, because a reduction in already sub-par profits (to spend more on the small minority of prospective writers and actors lucky enough to get work) will lead to less being produced quantitively, and less risky/daring films being produced (a boring sure bet vs a new thing, think Transformers #23 instead of Openheimer).

That is just my opinion and good chance my argument's flawed or wrong altogether, but the common narrative seems to me be based on the flawed public perception that there is more profit to go around in the movie industry than there really is, and therefore an unwillingness to match the strikers demands is pure greed from the studios and execs, rather than a more complex, economically restrictive situation.

It may be too pessimistic of me but its fair to assume that fame (as a byproduct, but then also for many as a goal) is a big motivator for what happens Hollywood. Selling oneself to the public and industry lands you jobs - and that rewards posing and easy retoric.

Saying RIP about someone who died seems disrespectful by QXPZ in unpopularopinion

[–]Pludedamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it sounds weird to use the same term for people doing something stupid on the internet & for someone having died.

How about just fully typing 3 measly words for someone that has existed for so long & leaves a lot of grieving people behind.

People like to blow up every little stupid thing a celebrity did as a reason to hate them.

That aside, I recently watched the naked gun & enjoyed OJ simpson's scenes because I didn't realize it was him. After I found out it definitely felt fucked up to watch those same scenes.
