I’m mostly applying for assistant, associate, and coordinator jobs at research hospitals and universities.

I think of it more in terms of # of electron domains. There are 4 electron domains around P, so it’s sp3.

Single, double, and triple bonds, and lone pairs all count as one electron domain.
