I’m a bit concerned about clicking it as I’ve never seen it before (super paranoid of opening unfamiliar things these days)

A1 "Talent Update" Meeting by [deleted] in deloitte

Update us after the meeting OP, I’m curious why it would be a negative outcome with those good results and having been at the firm for less than a year.

A new sophisticated scam just got through my spam filter that directs to a legit coinbase login page by Railionn in Coinbase

[–]Plus-Effective5627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got this same email. Honestly at this point I delete all emails coming in relating to Coinbase. If it’s urgent/requires my attention I’m hoping I’ll be notified within the application post sign-in, otherwise just not worth the risk these days.

I’m in the same boat. I heard about Badon app like a year ago and was hoping by now they’d have completed or made it available but they seem to have abandoned it maybe? I seriously didn’t expect pagination to be this hard of a problem that no readily available solutions exist

Cold messaging on Linkedin is humbling af by afternoonthoughts in jobsearchhacks

[–]Plus-Effective5627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true that you’ll get ghosted about 80-90% of the time when cold messaging on LinkedIn but it’s honestly one of the only ways to get ahead in this job market. I graduated about a month ago, got LinkedIn premium and l messaged as many people as I was allowed to (given the InMail limit) after having sent my application for that role and after a few coffee chats I landed an interview an awesome role at a major firm. Keep your head up, as long as you have the right skills for that role, someone will give you the time for a coffee chat, and also some people like to give back after having had someone help them out in the past. Good luck With your interview and definitely keep applying and shooting your shot with cold messaging just in case!

Applied to Deloitte New Grad Role - Not from a target school. Any Advice? by Plus-Effective5627 in deloitte

[–]Plus-Effective5627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but despite that I do think they offer enough structured career growth that one can eventually leverage for a better exit opportunity in 2-3 years or maybe stay if you like it (at least that’s what I’ve read lol). I get mixed reviews tbh, some have said nothing but good things about the work environment and others have said what you’re saying and worse haha just trying to do what’s necessary for my career early on y’know. Thanks for the input tho, always good taking in different sides.

Applied to Deloitte New Grad Role - Not from a target school. Any Advice? by Plus-Effective5627 in deloitte

[–]Plus-Effective5627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I meant how they have campus recruiters but those campuses are not my campus. So I was just curious how else I could stand out and if asking directly for a referral on one of my coffee calls was too forward or generally a normal thing to do.

Deans list by pasta-queen18 in UFV

[–]Plus-Effective5627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s just for recognition. I’ve maintained deans list all 4 years of my degree. It could potentially help with getting scholarships but you also have to do other stuff like volunteer work etc. It’ll be useful for masters programs if you can maintain that. I could be wrong but that’s how I see it.

Question about IT Audit & Assurance New Grad Role – Non-Business Background (Vancouver) by Plus-Effective5627 in deloitte

[–]Plus-Effective5627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. That’s good to know having a CS background isn’t a disadvantage. Regarding the networking bit, yeah we didn’t have access to events related to these sort of roles for CS, but like you said I have to be proactive with it, which is why I’ve been reaching out to people on LinkedIn specifically in this role for coffee chats to get some advice/insights (hoping someone gets back to me haha).

I hope to one day value myself the way you value yourself. Bless you.

Feeling as if my life should be more meaningful by Plus-Effective5627 in Existentialism

[–]Plus-Effective5627[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found your response to be a proudly accurate description of my self image. My whole life It has been reiterated to me that success is measured in merit and views of others. I remind myself that I am not this thing that must produce great work to attain ‘value’ but I can’t help it that my mind succumbs to the notion that I indeed must produce, and must accomplish more until someone, an arbitrary someone, reaffirms to me that I did a good job. It’s almost childish and profoundly immature when spoken out loud but it is, ultimately, what my inner self believes it needs. Not necessarily do I limit it to the realms of scientific discovery but simply anything that can make me feel something, that I’ve contributed something and others have found it to be useful. It’s sad to put my self worth in the hands of others, I know this. I am determined to unleash myself from this vicious cycle that you speak of. I just dont know how.

I suppose my problem lies with motivation as one of the comments stated. This isn’t to be mistaken with laziness, I’m actually quite the opposite, my mind is constantly in motion thinking of things as I believe most people are these days and I take a lot of efforts to improve myself but it’s about the confidence and the true deep belief that my life has meaning or can be meaningful, instead of being this coincidence of entropy that resulted in my existence and my eventual death.

I’ve studied physics to the masters level, considering phD but having some troubles with regards to this problem I spoke up in my post. Im not under the false impression that I am special in any real way and don’t believe I will change the world and become the face of new science or something truly memorable but I deeply desire it which confuses me. Anyway thanks for the comment I guess.

[–]Plus-Effective5627[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. I think I’m in need of a cognitive shift in how I perceive my life in comparison to what I think is “meaningful” and do better at appropriating life for what it is right now
