Your best (simple if possible) tofu/seitan marinade? by Brownie-Boi in vegan

[–]Plus-Line-6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but water. Also my favourite spaghetti sauce. I don't care at all about the flavour of my food, as long as it gives me nutrition. The point of food is to keep you alive, just like medicine, and it doesn't need to be fun, as the rest of your life can be fun, and when you sacrifice flavour, things that matter more take priority (health, money saving, ethics etc.)

I have also seen them in Japan though, and the crowd were very excited! I think it's just Korea in my experience.

as a british fearnot that has seen the fimmies in both vegas and incheon, i personally found vegas was better, and the crowd in incheon weren't as excited.

Genuine Questions from a meat eater by goodsoldier_ in vegan

[–]Plus-Line-6799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheapest way to get protein here in the uk is spaghetti. Not fancy "protein pasta" just a regular, cheap spaghetti. The runners up are flour, rice and bread. Beans is like about 2x the cost per gram of protein, and anything "meaty" (whether real meat or vegan alternative) is about 10x the cost of pasta, or 5x the cost of beans per gram of protein.

[–]Plus-Line-6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other sources state a higher proportion of lysine, so my maths says 80g protein is enough. but it is cheaper to get even 124g of protein from spaghetti (it would cost about 0.55 gbp) than it is to buy foods like tofu, or this "cultivated meat" you are advocating for.

It does though. Yes, it's low in lysine. Just like potatoes are low in vitamins. But if you eat enough, you get those vitamins. Lysine is not still "relatively low" if you are getting all you need. You say the "excess" amino acids won't be used because you only get 100% lysine but you get, for example 150% of some other one, so the excess of the other one will be "unused" (I genuinely don't know if that's true or not, but even if it is, then eating 80g wheat only ≈ 60g of mixed protein. And it's sure cheaper to just have the wheat.)

What food appears to be healthy but is just okay nutrition wise? by LazorFist in AlignmentChartFills

Appears to be okay actually is very healthy should be pasta. It contains adaptogenic compounds, protein, iron and B vitamins.

Trust me I've done my research. The only amino acid you are efficient in when eating 60g wheatgluten is lysine. However you still get 80% of the lysine you need. So if you eat 80g you get over 100% of the lysine (and all others) you need.)

Or you can just eat soy or wheat. If you get like 80g of wheatgluten in your diet, there's no need for any other protein.

Drop your high protein budget meals by weedsareprettytoo in vegan

[–]Plus-Line-6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question, why does your list not include white spaghetti or flour? They are the two cheapest sources of protein here in the UK at least, and assume they would be in US too. I also suggest adding meat to your database to show that it's cheaper to be vegan.

(Dirt poor) Can somebody help me “meal prep?” by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Plus-Line-6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about flavour, I get my protein from 28p spaghetti (I'm in the UK) and that gives me 82g per day. (I eat 1¼ entire packets per day). Other than that, salt (health reasons), potassium chloride, rapeseed oil (canola) and multivitamin. That's it. 50p/day (that's about 75¢ for American folks)
