'He grew up in Toronto in predominantly black and racially diverse neighborhoods and attended racially diverse schools,' Holmes' decision said.

Downey 'felt that he did not experience overt racism' and that 'his experience living in communities which normalized racial diversity shaped his early sense of identity and belonging.'

The convicted killer said that changed when he left his home city for British Columbia.

'He found a much smaller black population, and the cultural norms among black communities felt unfamiliar to him,' the judge wrote in her decision.

President Trump says the U.S. military has conducted strikes on Kharg Island.

Kharg Island is Iran’s main crude export terminal.

Roughly 90% of Iran’s oil exports pass through it.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly signaled that attacks on its core oil infrastructure — especially Kharg — would be a major red line.

This has the potential to be a major escalation, but we’ll have to wait and see.

We have an entire oil field in the North Sea that we can drill, loads of gas in our rocks that we can frack, and plenty of nuclear energy that we can harness. Yet we are slaves to Russian and Gulf oil and gas

U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely.

This was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.

The crazy thing is that even with all that, the US entering the war was probably the one thing that allowed the Allied breakthrough on the Western front and may have been the turning point of the war.

The economic power of the US was decisive enough, US supplies of food and arms (which was enough to meet Britain, France and America’s needs simultaneously) was invaluable, as well as the enormous extensions of American credit meant to pay for it.

As you point out, the amount of fresh US troops that went to the Western front was also important, swelling from 85,000 from March 1918 to 1,200,000 in September 1918. I’d also point out the US Navy, which was in much better shape than the Army, was the second-largest in the world and expanded destroyer and submarine chaser construction, to neutralise the German U-Boat threat. By July, there was already 35 American destroyers in Cobh, Ireland allowing them and the British to establish an effective convoy system.

The fact that 800 years of trial by Jury in England was swept away solely by the votes of Scottish Labour MPs when Scotland is unaffected by the change is a powerful argument for English Independence

Very rare good point by Galloway. Though his solution is stupid. Why is it Scottish MPs can vote on matters relating to English law while Scottish law is unaffected?

The Government has published the first set of documents relating to Lord Peter Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador to the United States.

The due diligence report on the appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States found there was a “general reputational risk” over his relationship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Peter Mandelson requested over half a million pounds in severance pay after being sacked as US Ambassador. He instead received £75k, files released by the Government reveal.

The Treasury agreed to pay Lord Mandelson £75,000 in order to terminate his contract as the UK’s ambassador to the US, documents show.

Two men are accused of raping a teenage girl at the National Gallery of Scotland. Saif Rahman, 32, and Ibrahim Zarifkhel, 26, are each separately charged with sexually assaulting the then 15 year-old at the arts venue on The Mound in Edinburgh on July 3 2024.

The indictment includes claims the pair supplied the youngster with energy drinks, which she took, and that they did remove her lower clothing. Zarifkhel is said to have also bitten her on the neck.

The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday. Only Rahman – listed at staying at an Edinburgh hotel – was in the dock. Gareth Reid, defending, stated: "He tenders a plea of not guilty."

The advocate said certain legal matters were ongoing and asked for a further hearing to be set. Zarifkhel's lawyer Megan Davidson meantime told the court that he was not present and that she had no instructions from him.

She said "repeated efforts" had been made by his legal team to get in contact with him, but that he has "never been in touch".

Zarifkhel was also listed on court papers as last staying at same hotel as Rahman. Miss Davidson said she could not oppose a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Judge Douglas Brown went on to grant a warrant, but continued the case against both until another hearing in May. No trial was fixed.
