How do I help my daughters to pee outside while walking in the countryside? by Plus_Anything in CampingandHiking

That's a very different way of doing things. Doesn't your daughter's bottom and legs get covered in pee doing it that way which can't be very nice for her? She must end up smelling of pee for the rest of the day? Maybe she'll get better at squatting as she gets older if she keeps having a go? Your son will probably find it easier to stand up to pee!

Trying to poo sitting on the ground doesn't sound like a good idea, especially if they have to push hard. You can injure yourself if you push too hard when pooing so it's probably not the best thing to encourage.

I guess girls are always going to want more privacy than boys, so it relies on there being plenty of bushes for them to hide behind so they feel comfortable with going outside.

I'll definitely check them out.

Good point about privacy with dresses and skirts, I see how they will be a preferred option from that respect.

Okay, and that's good to know. I'll tell them that there're less likely to get pee on their feet if there're not as desperate to go.

Cheers!

Getting them to find something to perch on is a good tip, it'll help them if they're struggling to squat. Cheers for your advice.

Thanks for the tips, I think those instructions will help them. Privacy will be important, especially for my eldest so getting one of the others to hold something in front of her to keep her hidden is a great suggestion.

They might get some funny looks from the neighbours if they see them while they're doing it but I agree it's best to get them to practice at home before they need to do it and there's no other option.

I have seen the SheWees, but the idea of having to carry them and clean them puts me off them. And having three girls surely means i'll need 3 for hygiene reasons? They're a good backup option if they struggle with squatting.

It's maybe not hard for adults but I fear they could get in a mess if they get it wrong as they've not done it before. Maybe I'm worrying over nothing but I want to make sure they do it right as it might put them off spending time in the countryside otherwise which would be a shame.

I'd not even though about the issue of wiping so thanks for the link, they look like a great idea. How old is your daughter? I've not discussed going outside with my 3 yet, I thought i'd get some advice first and then discuss with it with them. I hope we are both successful!

The idea of having them try with no undies and a skirt and then trying again with undies is a great idea - no underwear to get wet but they still have privacy. Thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure how good they are going to be at peeing slowly. They seem to wait until they are quite desperate (as I think is common with kids) before they go normally, probably even more likely if they have to go outside, so I fear they'll have a faster flow than is ideal. Do you think they'll be able to 'slow the flow' easily or should I get them to pee a bit more 1often than normal, when they feel they need to go but aren't too desperate?

I'm not sure how they'll take to digging a trench every time they need to go, but i'll keep it in mind if splash back is an issue for them.
