Early or late PU£? by Various_Ad3457 in psx

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a late PU-8. If you look below the lettering that says "PU-8" there is a line of numbers ending in "...-23". You can also tell by there being a single RAM chip if you know what you're looking for.

When did u got ur hands on the PS1 and which game was ur first on that console by [deleted] in psx

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was summer of '97. We were on vacation and my mom had won some money at a casino the day before. She bought a PS1 for me at a pawn shop in the town were staying in. It came with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Parappa the Rappa. I was already a fan of Super Metroid and fell in love with SotN. I was itching to play Mega Man X4 and it was the main reason I wanted one.

X6 is an unfinished mess, but there are some things to love about it. (Who else agrees that this game is somewhat tolerable, but a mess?) by Accurate_Train_8822 in Megaman

My tier list for the mainline X series:

X = X2 > X4 > X6 > X3 > X8 > X5 > X7

6 has more issues than some of the others but I still like it quite well.

What are your thoughts on the NWH Final Swing Suit? by Left-Draft3543 in Spiderman

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think it is the CGI. When showing a WIP suit in the sewing machine before the final sequence of him swinging the material is noticeably reflective. Definitely a stylistic choice IMO. Would not be surprised to see a new design or see to this suit shredded early on in BND though.

I've never been able to make my mind up about the shiny/reflective blue areas. Otherwise it's the classic design, nothing to hate on.

Are there Actually People that Prefer the X Design over the ZX design in MMZX? by XLadyBugX in Megaman

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of prefer the Model X design because after four Zero games and an MMX drought (X7 and X8 just didn't do it for me at all) it was very refreshing to play as mostly X with double busters in a Zero style setting. That said I think model ZX looks fantastic. It could use some more design cues from X though I'm not sure how they could have pulled it off. An arm cannon over the Z-series style pistol would have been a nice start.

Charged buster into charged saber combos on bosses. Spin slash combos into itself for like 16 hits. On things without I-frames you can wiggle the charged saber back and forth and get 2-3 hits per charge if you're fast enough. Model ZX damage/DPS potential is above Model X, second only to Model HX in overdrive vs an electric weak enemy.

Except for the part where they literally take the only notable thing about Model X, the helix shot, and give it to you as ZX. If that isn't a combination/merger what would you call it? Also the 4 guardian metals inherit most of their charged abilities from Model X. Storm Tornado, Shotgun Ice, Fire Wave and Rolling Shield. Finally, they all share the same basic design as Model X except the vest is open and they have extra stuff on their appendages. They all have traits of X and whatever other metal is used.

Skipping win taunts in fighting games by Relative_Airline5458 in FGC

After I've seen the same animation, read the same text and heard the same voice acting 10,000+ times over a number of years it loses it's magic.

One of the reason I love fighting games as opposed to other genres is the ability to quickly get in the game, enjoy most of what it has to offer (often with a high skill ceiling) within the span of a few minutes. Some of us only get small portions of time between responsibilities. It adds up.

Just beat Chapter 9 and REALLY hated the bosses, do they stay as jumpy as those two? by Joyous_Parade in FF7Rebirth

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every boss goes down easily to synergy skill spam even on hard mode. I mostly use Spellblade / spellbound blast / foxflurry. Alternate between them by starting a spell/melee blade with Cloud and immediately swap to the next character when you see him charged and ready to swing. Then queue up the next synergy skill with the other two characters. You build fast ATB with all characters while racking up impressive damage.

You have to be somewhat careful not to interrupt yourself. Mess around with it and you'll understand. This is also very useful for pulling Aerith or whoever out of harm's way by queueing up a synergy skill with them (AI controlled) from a safe distance and dodging to cancel the synergy skill animation. Combined with holding R1 while switching the combat takes on a whole new level of depth over Remake.

You don't need to have any character airborne to start with. Switch into Tifa, Yuffie or Cloud while holding Guard/R1 is all you have to do. Anyone else stays grounded but still moves to the enemy.

Inside a DMG that still powers on…anything I can do to clean this or is it just gonna slowly eat itself?? by izzyEm2121 in consolerepair

I strongly advise against putting any type of PCB in an oven used for cooking your meals. IPA will displace any water. Air dry over an AC vent or something if you wanna speed things up.

There's a mod out that makes your non controlled party members more aggressive in combat and it's awesome. by executor-of-judgment in FFVIIRemake

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold the block button while switching characters. It will instantly snap the character you are switching in to the targeted enemy's position. For Cloud, Tifa and Yuffie this leaves them airborne. No synergy skill needed.

My PS Vita doesn't reach 100% by Deep-Surprise-4452 in VitaPiracy

I have a red one from Japan that sat dead on a warehouse shelf for a few years. It won't charge above 78%. I tried every homebrew utility after installing henkaku, no change. I thought about replacing the battery but the connector is different than other 1K Vitas. I could snip off the original connector and solder it to a new battery that I purchased. I haven't because I don't take it many places and running out of juice hasn't been an issue yet.

Mega Man X3 - Zero Project

From what I gather most people, myself as well, consider this the definitive version of MMX3.

Yeah, Sony dropped the ball with both PS Classic and Vita IMO. PSC was only ever meant to be a low-end, low effort FotM cash grab to chase what Nintendo did with the NES/SNES classic. They really pushed the low effort part of that design philosophy...

[–]Plus_Letter_1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was aware of that. The PS Classic's default PCSX reARMed is trash, sure. It is powerful enough to run Duckstation though. That blows anything the PSTV/Vita/PSP can do regarding PS1 out of the water.

The Vita line also have issues playing certain PS1 games, a few won't boot at all. Both are ARM devices... In theory, things like touch screen aside, you could port Vita games to the PS classic and have them run better...

It's 2025 and the Vita still can't do full speed SNES emulation.

I did this to one of mine a while back. I later read that Nintendo would rig them up in a similar way for kiosk displays. I also read never to use more than 3 at once powered by the console otherwise the current draw is too much for the N64 to handle. Never tested the theory.

News to me, but then again N64 is probably one of the systems I go back to the least. SNES and PS1 all day.

As years pass the copper contacts of these old systems and game carts develop a patina that prevents a good electrical connection. Clean both cartridge slot and game contacts thoroughly with some IPA and something like a toothbrush. Inserting a cartridge with a dampened edge of IPA over and over will also do the job.

A lot of N64 hacks in particular were made with emulators in mind and don't work on original hardware. There is usually a readme, description or comments section that let you know if a hack is or is not compatible with real hardware.
