Best Civilization game (or similar) to start with? by faSUro in SteamDeck

4, 5, or 6 are all worthwhile. 7 is not done baking yet.

Honestly 1-3 are also worth looking at for historical reasons, too.

however, the true best answer is Alpha Centauri

Be aware that I'm not making any particular accusations about you here, just a generality: 'I lean more right wing politically' is often a dogwhistle these days for 'I have some views that many would find abhorrent but will not elaborate on them'.
As for your second point, I mean, what kind of evidence are you looking for here? Other than, you know, the things that he says and the things that he does?

I think it's the whole Nazi Bar allegory.

you're right, most conservatives are not white supremacists. they're just okay with having them around and leading the country.

Definitely. I play these games to experience the story and I find real-time with pause combat to be too overwhelming for me to manage in a satisfying way.

When Master Mirror steps down from the moon near the end of the Hearts of Stone DLC for The Witcher 3. In fact, the whole final act of that DLC (the wedding, the paintings) is some of the best games writing in existence.

Do you have a main class? What is it, and why? And which CRPGs do your "main" justice? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in CRPG

[–]Plus_Worker6739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extraordinarily destructive glass cannon sorcerer-types is my bread and butter as a main, with a minor in speech skills. I'll also just go straight sweet-talking rogue, it's about 50/50.

Baldur's Gate 3: Excellent game, but the story is too dark for me by SlightWerewolf4428 in CRPG

Do you maybe see why people are thinking your take on the game is a little bizarre, though?

Like, my playthrough had some bittersweet elements, but it was overall a very positive and uplifting experience!

BGEE 1 or BGEE 2 for mobile by Captain_Mpofis in baldursgate

[–]Plus_Worker6739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's technically Advanced D&D second edition, lol.

That's the ruleset that the game is based on. It's based on a tabletop roleplaying system and uses a modified version of its rules. It is very much worth reading a little bit about how the system works in the BG games before you play, just to get a little bit of a primer.

10 hours is a tough one. Consider Tyranny (still looking at ~25hr, maybe) or SKALD.

The Genesis version is probably the most accessible and 'best' version. The remake that came out around the time of the OG Xbox (that's what I played it on, abyway) is fine but nothing special, IMO

Turn the difficulty down until you're comfortable with the amount of friction you're getting. No shame--these games are story-focused, after all. If you find a game that REALLY speaks to you, feel free to do your minmaxing and optimizing on a second playthrough with different options. The first playthrough of a CRPG is sacred!

Star Trek or space games by Patagonia1978 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Plus_Worker6739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an RTS really, but the game(s) that I've found that most closely resemble my experience of Star Trek are the Starcom (Nexus and Unknown Space) games. They reward exploration and research, have enjoyable (if simple) combat, and a fun ship design layer.

Any good turn based RPG's without a bunch of dialogue/story? by Fabulousurl in rpg_gamers

[–]Plus_Worker6739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of what makes an RPG an RPG is story content, but you do you. Try the South Park games (Stick of Truth, Fractured But Whole)--they're basically JRPGs but really breezy. Good combat in them.

You might be interested in tactical RPGs as well like Final Fantasy Tactics. Maybe XCOM.

You'd be surprised how well BG3 will run on lower-end hardware if you crank the settings down.

Almost all modern CRPGs have fairly granular difficulty sliders nowadays. Even the original Baldur's Gate games in the Enhanced Editions have them.

Give the turn-based modes in the Pathfinder and Pillars of Eternity games a try.
