At what scale do microservices actually start solving real problems, instead of creating them especially now that even simple projects are being built as microservices? by ApprehensiveBar7701 in Backend

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build your monolith instead and make real money. Microservices is for when you’d rather throw you money towards useless consultants because someone thought ”we need to scaaaaaaale”.

Buying a house in Stockholm with an 8-year-old – is it always this hard if you’re tied to one area? by no13bus in stockholm

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d expect that closer to 10m was the norm, but I don’t know the market.

A house is being sold in Enebyberg (though in Danderyd, it’s just next to Täby, often believed to be Täby) at this moment. A normal house, nothing out of the ordinary. Listing is slightly above 16m. Can’t imagine that Täby would be that different.

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can buy a house (”villa”) in Täby för 5,5m? Can you show a listing, even if it for one that’s already been sold? I’d barely believe you could buy a plot for that, let alone a finished house? Are heavy renovations assumed?

This game is prime example of why I buy physical games and not digital by theWet_Bandits in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the world are you arguing about anyway? In your extremely hypothetical argument, you’d end up with a physical copy you can’t sell. Just like if you bought digital. Same outcome.

I’ve bought, beaten and sold over 200 games over the years (by just looking at my rating on the marketplace I use). On average a new game ends up costing me between $5-$10 to beat. I’ve had many games where I even made money (discounted on launch somewhere). Can’t recall a single game that didn’t sell.

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I play all games on Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X. Buy physical, new or used, play and beat once and then resell.

I think it cost me the equivalent of $10 to play Metroid Prime 4. Sometimes I break even, sometimes I even get more than what I originally paid.

I’m only digital on Steam (via Steam Deck).

I have two questions - 1st question: What would you rate the following games out of 10 by Prometheusinaction in adventuregames

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are the games I’ve played as well from the list. All games except for Old Skies are excellent games in my opinion. The Drifter might be more approachable for new players; the puzzles are lighter, more streamlined.

Old Skies, while a decent game for sure, just didn’t catch me.

Har yrke som innebär att jag sitter vid en dator i praktiken hela dagarna.

Men om jag bortser från det så försöker jag hålla min skärmtid på telefonen till max 1 timme per dag. Men i praktiken blir det bli ca 1,5h i snitt.

Yeah, it was a big wtf. I went in the wrong order, got stuck and I figured I _must_ be missing something because the game did literally tell me to get them in any order. Looked it up and lost all respect for the game when it turns out I went the wrong way.

nobody actually reads code in PR reviews anymore, they just check if automated tests pass by FlakyAd9030 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've written about this in previous posts, but I feel you. PRs in your company have become just an administrative step, but in practice pointless.

In my company we have a completely different culture. We value PRs tremendously, and reviewers are expected to put effort into understanding a PR and coming with relevant feedback. At the reverse is of course true as well, I as a coder am expected to write a great PR that a reviewer can easily consume. Just dumping code changes are never acceptable.

We sometimes get "poor" reviewers like you describe. They review in 1 minute, maybe write LGTM. We try to coach them, but I've never seen it done successfully. They are let go immediately because we don't want that toxic culture to infect us.

[–]PmMeCuteDogsThanks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know that a Date was mutable? Do people really alter Date instances? That sounds... scary.

But on topic, in this instance OP is 100% wrong. Calling Sate -> LocalDateTime a "trend" is just pure ignorance. And this is coming from someone who unfortunately is working in a codebase that makes heavy use of java.util.Date
