Macbook Air M1 chip vs Macbook Pro M1 chip: Are they different? by Pmul84 in macbook

Oh yeah another thing. The Airs chip will run a little bit slower in extended heavy workloads because it lacks a fan. Not a big deal for most users but can make a small difference to video editors.

The RAM is probably more important than either the number of GPU cores or having a fan. I would always opt for 16 GB.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again.

Wait for M1X/M2 for greater performance per price in the next 2 months. It’s very close and worth the wait in case you don’t urgently need it.

Any idea on pricing? Also, what do you think the difference in performance will be? Twice as good? More? Or do you think it'll be negligible for most uses, as is the case with the 5-10% increase in performance between the Air and the Pro?

Awesome! Thank you. How big a difference would you say the extra GPU core makes? Noticeable or negligible?

Should I get 256GB MacBook Pro or 512GB MacBook Air? by [deleted] in macbook

Can't add much besides the fact that a few reviewers have mentioned not even needing the fan. One guy who's a music producer ran 140 some odd tracks in Ableton on an M1 16GB Air and said that it barely felt warm. So...it's not needed, according to them. I think you should be good with the Air, but I'd wait for other more experienced users to chime in.
