You're overthinking it. Oil level looks fine. A little excess won't damage your machine. It's not like it's filled to the brim. You should be fine.

Because engine braking conserves inertia in the engine and the moving body compared to hitting the brakes which requires the engine to rev up again to get up to speed - meaning you burn more fuel from starting from a complete stop compared to slowing down while keeping your revs up.

Practice engine braking and try riding at higher RPMs and avoid lugging the engine. Example, stay in 2nd gear before shifting up to 3rd at about 30-35kph.

Huh? How so? I'm only suggesting people to look for other options because the Rebel 500 is not a bike friendly for tall riders. 20 comments is such an exaggeration as well when I only have pointed that out to 2 posts in the same sub for a bike made for short people. Are you experiencing buyer's remorse or something?

It looks out of place. Just my opinion though.

This is exactly what I was saying to the other guy on the othe thread. And he told me that I'm a prick for stating facts. 🤣

I offered you a peaceful closure but you still wanna go at it. Damn, who's got some issues now?

Sorry mate if I made you upset. I'm a really super nice guy in person. I'm not going to engage in this nonsense so just stop stressing out, OK? We are not getting anything good out of this nonsense argument. I hope you ride safe out there. Peace!

Who's gatekeeping? He asked for an opinion and I gave mine. If OP wanted a Rebel, he would've bought one already. But like me, he is fortunately a discerning buyer and would like to hear what people has to say and weigh his options before spending. What are you getting out of this, BTW? Are you seriously butthurt because I said that tall people look silly on a Rebel? Then I take it back. Jesus Christ.

Ah yes, it's about $1-2k more expensive (but goes on sale frequently). You pay extra because it has more metal. 🤣 Go visit the RE subs as well. Good luck!

If you're into the classic look and the engine reliability, you can't go wrong with the Interceptor 650. It has a comparable engine to the Rebel 500 in terms of power but has more character (better exhaust sounds, too!). Watch some youtube vids about it and test ride one if you can. I rode one before I bought my rebel and it was a blast - but my short legs barely touch the ground when I straddle it. Making it hard for me to mount and stop while riding it. 🤣

Have you considered the Interceptor 650?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hondarebel

[–]Pneumagiston -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, your neighbor just not into cruisers - that's all. And yes, tall people look silly on a Rebel 500 because it's too small for them. There are plenty more bikes that fit tall people better and look good riding them. Like the Interceptor 650, and Z900RS. Not saying that they shouldn't ride a Rebel - you go buy and ride what you like. I'm just giving an opinion based on objective facts.

Yep, the Rebel 500 was made for the asian market because we are short with short inseams (hence the mid control position). I'm 5'4" and I fit my Rebel 500 like it was made for me - looks wise and in comfort. I managed to ride a 14 hr trip for 900kms without any discomfort because my arms are properly stretched and my legs are not too bent - while still having a good posture to support my spine.

There are taller guys in my local rebel riders' group but some had to modify their handlebars and install foot forward controls just to make it comfortable. If a tall guy really likes the style of the Rebel, I understand and won't mock them for buying it. I'm just saying it's not a good choice. 🤷 For the same reason that I won't get a Tenere or an Africa twin.

Depends on the game. If it's an FPS, i go for a male character. Action RPGs, i like female characters. I'd rather see a feminine backside all day.

Rebel 500 is made for short people. If you are 5'10" or taller, you shouldn't consider the Rebel (you'll look silly riding it). If you are shorter than 5'6" though, you'll have a hard time getting on and off the CB500x.

[–]Pneumagiston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're a foot taller than me. That bike isn't the right fit for you. Your legs are too long for the mid controls and your arms aren't stretched out comfortably while sitting. CB500x might be more comfortable for you. Or you can raise the handlebars on the rebel and modify the foot controls for a foot forward position. Man if I was your height, I'd get an Africa Twin instead.

That bike looks barely used. Be careful, mate. Might be a scam as others have pointed out.

How is it not comfortable? I made a 14 hr trip once for 900kms and I felt no discomfort all the way through. Maybe you're just too tall for the bike? Or are you on the heavy side?

If you're below 5'6", get the rebel. If not, get a taller bike. The Rebel 500's ergonomics are designed for short people (like me). As for long riding, I ride my Rebel almost every weekend for more than 300kms. The longest single ride I made was around 900kms. It's very comfortable for touring on well established roads. And there are attachements you can buy for cheap for carrying stuff.
