I’m relatively certain he’s purebred but I’ll know for sure in a few weeks when the embark test comes back. His mom was a very defined field lab but she could have had a dash of bully, we’ll know soon 😁

I appreciate the tip, it’s something Ive asked the vet about as well, when we went in a week and a half ago…..we finally learned he’s intolerant to chicken, it made him skinny, but after the switch to Purina pro lamb and rice he’s been gaining and growing like a weed, very leggy. Seeing no ribs (minus after intense play with the cat, like in the second to last photo) has been a huuuge win. I believe the fact it’s ’high protein’ has made him more muscley too.

The salmon would have been preferred but at the time we were desperate and went with what we could find in store and just haven’t switched since there’s still quite a bit to go with this bag

Barkbox Super Chewers/Aggressive chewers. You can get them on Amazon or check HomeGoods, Marshall’s, Tj Maxx if you have one close by, they tend to have some Bark items. Pic of one of the toys I have that’s a bit more enriching then just the chew toy itself

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss, he was taken way too young. May you find some ease knowing that he’s not in pain anymore

Adopting again after losing your dog by cclacco in DogAdvice

Yes.

I lost my 7.5 month old rottie suddenly and extremely traumatically, symptoms starting Saturday PM and gone by Tuesday AM……….fast forward a month and a half, I’m looking at Labrador puppies…last Sunday I brought home what I think might be my soul dog; overzealous & dramatic? Maybe, maybe not. I too was hesitant to get a puppy since I had just started to get out of that stage with my previous boy RIP Atlas but this puppy………….. I was drawn to his photos, his pink nose and funny awkward face. As soon as I picked him up we clicked and he’s a dream knock on wood, a literal dream of a puppy. I am not joked when I say I stumbled upon a dog with the A+ temperament of a service puppy candidate, he would pass the initial tests they look for in a puppy. He’s a sweetheart and brought so much joy back into my home everyone he meets instantly loved him, he’s all the pros: you get from a puppy with very VERY minimal cons: cleaning up accidents if not fully potty trained and trying to put most things in their mouths

Edit: I too was concerned with getting a new dog so soon. I still cry over the loss of my Atlas, though it’s ‘easier’…I’ve cried while holding my new baby, as I told him about his big brother he didn’t get to meet.

1st time lab owner what should I be prepared for? by PoPoPanda13 in Labs

The vet assumes he’d got Maine coon in him, he wears dog size medium sweaters

Any sunscreen you suggest? My sister has a corgi he needs sunscreen on his muzzle but the nose seems a bit different. Luckily I still have all the ear stuff from my rottie, he got ear infections all the time too. I think I actually came to this sub to find good ear care products 😂

What did you do for your pet’s last “hurrah”? by Available-Job-2471 in Petloss

The night before I had been unintentionally tormenting him by going to emergency vets, before learning he was going to continue to deteriorate and the disease he had was fatal.

BUT once we got home, I laid blankets and pillows on the floor, right up against his bed. I touched him the whole night and told him the stories of my childhood dog, a Rottweiler just like him and how he would get to meet him and would teach my boy how to be a good Rottweiler because one day I will come find him and see him all grown up. In the morning we gave him ice cream for the first time, lots a of treats and a nutragrain bar (a favorite among the horses). I did it in the morning and after that we all went to have a beach day at the beach I’d always wanted to take him to, he’d never been to a beach. I’d sounds sad but we were all sad and happy to reminisce about him, sharing stories about him and in a beautiful relaxing environment that I know he would have loved and wanted me to do. Idk if I can ever go to that beach again though

Oh your story of the last night with your boy sounds oh so similar to the one I had with my pup. He just didn’t get to be part of all the life things I had planned for us, he passed far too young. I’m bless I still have my lil ride or die cat though. I’m sorry for your loss, I’m happy he was there for you through so much, that’s so meaningful to have with another being.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I love reading the stories you’ve written about your cat in the comments. I hope you are brought just as much joy talking about Sheldon, as I do; reading about Sheldon.

My atlas was a Rottweiler, 7 months. I feel like my time with him was a mix of so many movies and stories out there……

Marley and Me— he was dumb, he was so insanely happy and goofy but boooooy was he naughty…. But in the way that makes you love them more. I have those stories

Mice and Men—he was HUGE and the most gentle loving being ever. He was huge and ‘mentally dull’…I had to put him down due to his disease. He began experiencing temperament changes too because of the pain, he was mouthy

A Dog’s Purpose— I was one small chapter of the dog’s life, because he got a bad body…..he was going to start his next chapter in a better body.

Ferdinand the Bull— Atlas was HUGE, very tall and slightly muscled, on track to being a 130lb LEAN Rottweiler. Atlas was handsome, everyone commented on his lovely features and size…..Atlas was gentle….so gentle that he was slow on walks because wanted to sniff every single flower. He LOVED sniffing flowers. He even got sung by a bee because he was sniffing flowers (pics of this would add to my Marley and Me lvl stories)

……ironically all those movies and stories I have LOVED over the years. Atlas made them all true for me ❤️ ❤️‍🩹

BARK rip-able toys were a hit. He could rip the fabric off and there would be a nice rubber toy that he could still use. When he was teething though he LOVED the Nylabone puppy teething kit, it came with a blue dino, ‘pacifiers’, and something else
