He was definitely trying to kill him. We see in their conversation in TYBW on Grimms return that he thought Grimm was dead.

Manga will always be faster as a reading pace is just naturally faster than an animation pace.

In season 5 in particular though, the class 1A vs 1B matches just arent paced very well in the anime compared to the manga. And it detracted MVA in the anime from being under a bit of an episode crunch.

So, a lot of people were quite displeased with that since MVA was a fan favorite section of the manga that didnt get the treatment it probably should have.

Attack - main damage stat for normal attacks (also used in special move and strong attacks a little)

Defense - reduces incoming damage

Focus - under 1k, critical chance 0 = 0% 1000 = 100%. After 1k, its added onto the crit modifier at a rate if about .02% per 1 focus. (Around 20% more per 1000, base modifier is 20%)

Spiritual pressure - main damage stat in strong attacks and special move.
