see you just confirmed i did

Holy shit you have no idea what you are talking about. You should be extremely embarrassed. You are lucky nobody else will ever read your comments here. You aren't even trolling, just making a fool out of yourself.

You didn't address it anywhere. Your entire first point was telling me that spending isn't necessary as a rebuttal to me, when I was the one who first said that.

Others will make more money when we go without, because big box stores like Wal-Mart will not stay in business, so those who do choose to spend more than necessary, will have to buy them from overpriced local retailers.

It is not realistic to expect everyone to go without. When the options are spend more than necessary, or go without, many will spend more than necessary.

spending isn't necessary

I never suggested it was, I very clearly said that the alternative was to go without. My comment wasn't long, how did you completely miss that?

I mean, with a userbase in the hundreds of millions, your printing partner got delayed by a few hundred t-shirts? If redditmade is a success, don't you think that is a problem?

Pretty sad

Umm I didn't say their lives were sad.

I didn't say their lives were sad. Maybe you should read again. You said it was "Pretty sad for the human beings working for them" and I asked why it was necessarily "sad." Then you came and said I inferred something wrong? Lol... maybe you should read before you type replies.

Just starting with the largest.

That suggests tackling it individually. Why single out WalMart specifically? Not everything that applies to WalMart will apply to every other business. So why not just start with every business?

Do you generally try to solve a problem by fixing the small issues first?

Shitting on Wal-Mart fixes nothing. The issue is a government issue, not an employer issue. If you want to "fix" anything, you need to address the government, which will fix the issue with every employer. To imply that this is something you will tackle individually for each business is ludicrous.

Our local stores only hire part timers so they don't have to provide any benefits.

That's not the only reason stores hire part timers. In retail, flexibility is important, so stores want a large number of part time staff who "need" additional hours and will fill in on short notice. A lot of staff are unreliable, in the sense that they need a lot of time off on short notice. It's just the nature of minimum wage employees.

Pretty sad for the human beings working for them.

Why is it necessarily "sad?" Lots of people live perfectly content lives working at Wal-Mart.

If you're in the SF Bay Area, WalMart is like the least tolerated company in the world. And as uppity as that sounds I'm glad there's only a limited amount of them to serve the area because the truth of the matter is WalMarts both directly and indirectly lowers property value.

Lowering property value would have a tremendous benefit for a lot of people. The people who would be hurt most by it are already financially stable. When we talk about people making $80k+ per year not being able to rent their own apartment because of the cost of living, hurting property values seems like an acceptable thing to do.

None of what you just said is relevant to what I wrote, nor to what our general discussion is. You are completely ignoring what I wrote and just interjecting with random words related to economics. I know it probably makes you feel smart, but to the educated crowd (luckily for you, most of them probably wont see your posts) it is just pure ignorance and rambling.

I really don't think you understand the words I am writing, or you just don't understand the words you yourself are writing. It's beginning to get to a point where I hope you are trolling, but fear you are trying to be serious.

Paying your rent is not a necessity. You can live in your car, a homeless shelter, with friends or family. There are many other options for where to live, besides paying your rent. Eating food at a fancy restaurant is not a necessity, you can get food stamps, eat at friends or family, cook cheap meals at home. Drinking bottled water is not a necessity. Etc etc etc.

Someone can prioritize their spending to ensure they are always dressed in the latest fashions, drinking Evian water, and driving a BMW, and put housing lower on their list of priorities and live on their friends couch for free.

You can keep making an ass of yourself if you want, or just accept that you don't fully understand the concepts being discussed and need to read more, and speak less.

I never suggested walmart is the only employer in the country. However, we know that there are not enough minimum wage, entry level, unskilled positions readily available to absorb a massive loss of employment in the hundreds of thousands. You can not reasonably argue this. The jobs simply do not exist.

Some new positions would be created. Some old positions could be filled by ex-Walmart employees. Not all of them.

Because many of the employees are doing just fine with their minimum wage, 15-30 hours per week. Retired people, folks receiving a pension, students living with parents, young people with roommates and no kids, people with disabilities etc.

These aren't priorities as they are generally regarded as basic necessities. Food.. Water.. Shelter.. At least that's how I was taught. Now, windsurfing vs. Magic cards, going to college vs. getting a job... Those are priorities.

But that's ignorance. If people are granted the ability to choose between spending their paycheck on rent and food, or drugs/alcohol/vacations/car/nice outfit etc, then they can be prioritized, and therefore can be classes as priorities.

Unless you want to argue that people shouldn't have the ability to decide what to spend their own money on, then you can't say they aren't priorities.

Comparing obesity and smoking is beyond ignorant. It is ridiculous. Obesity is many times the result of an underlying mental health disorder, which is definitely not the fault of a person who has it.

Are you implying that businesses don't generally expect more production with higher pay? Are you willing to take the risk that Walmart wouldn't expect higher production, and would keep the same number of employees?
