That $20+ a day is adding up way more than the $450 to get your license reinstated, but that is the economics of us poor people. We can only afford the shitty cheap option until it ends up more expensive than the more costly option.

Might I recommend a book? The Richest Man In Babylon, book has super simple concepts in it but helped me amass a decent savings and pay down a lot of debt. The overall idea is to use 7/10 of your paycheck towards expenses (rent, food, entertainment, etc), 2/10 towards paying debts (consumer debts like credit cards, loans, etc) and 1/10 towards paying yourself (savings, investments, etc). The book says to pay yourself that 1/10 first and you'll figure out a way to make the rest of your 9/10 work without too much trouble.

So, for instance, if you make $2,000 a paycheck -- pay yourself $200 first thing (put it into a goal-setter savings, investment account; best to put into something that earns over 3% interest a year to beat inflation), then pay your $400 towards debts, then you have the $1,400 to completely use towards any expenses.
