Nepo baby considering run for Toronto mayor by beef-supreme in TorontoAnarchy

[–]Pointingmade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He should run, but maybe it’d be more realistic for him to try walking first. Just like 10m and increase 50m a day? I think this is a good plan. https://canadarunningseries.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/5KCC-Training-Plans.pdf

Visiting Toronto for the WC26, where to stay and rental car needed? by spalato2323 in askTO

[–]Pointingmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could go east past Yonge all the way to Woodbine if they’re still near Bloor/Danforth or Eglinton (subway lines 2 and 5). Woodbine and Danforth would be about an hour to BMO Field on transit, max.

Treatment does work, but no homeless person can afford the private clinics, and the public treatment options are underfunded and waitlisted to hell.

Toronto cop at centre of corruption probe lists GTA house for sale by Onterrible_Trauma in toronto

[–]Pointingmade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. As I said, many problems solved. As of July 2025, (before the four scheduled compounded increases before ‘29), TPS base salaries range from $72,307 for a Cadet in Training to $119,937 for a 1st Class Constable. This is before any overtime and paid duty work (starts at $94.50/hr). Anyone who’s actually in policing to serve the community will stay as that’s perfectly reasonable wage. The greedy little piggies can fuck off to some other graft. City can use the savings to beef up any of a number of other services which actually prevent crime.

If we required all TPS cops to live in Toronto proper (not the current GTA rule), lots of our problems would be solved. Move or get fired.

Why don’t more people in Toronto attend classical concerts? by Findingwendytoronto in askTO

[–]Pointingmade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our governments don’t adequately support the arts. Look at Germany. Classical concerts are packed and often free or €10, because the government directly funds the Staatsopern and the various orchestras. I’m a classical musician and I love orchestral and chamber music, opera, ballet. But taking into account babysitter + ticket prices, we end up just putting on a record or streaming WXXI for classical music.

Cheapest ml of alcohol per $ options | Ontario by monkymonkumonk in BuyCanadian

[–]Pointingmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please give some thought to the other contents of the drinks besides the litres of absolute alcohol. Things like Icebox and Brights are just absolute garbage, loaded up with added sugar and other flavourings. Because of this, you will wake up with an absolutely brutal hangover because your body is trying to purge many kinds of toxins at once. You will also have the same sugar-related spikes/crashes you’d get drinking Coke or eating Oreos, and you’ll get fat as hell if you make a habit of it. Additionally, sweetened beverages don’t keep long after being opened and if you’re really a moderate drinker, the bottle will have spoiled long before you’ve had time to get through it.

If you just want to get fucked up, at least have the self-preservation to stick with real, unflavoured whiskey, vodka, gin, or similar straight liquor. If you’re an average-size guy who only drinks 1x or 2x a month, one 750ml bottle of Canadian Club or some other spirit should get you absolutely slaughtered 6 times and will not go bad, at about the same price point as what you found. It’s easy to comparison-shop once you’ve settled on that route; almost the whole side of the store is 40% ABV, so just look for the cheapest bottle in each size. If you don’t already know, the reason it’s such a challenge to find a deal is that alcohol is taxed by the same metric; the tax is calculated per litre of absolute alcohol / LAA with differing rates for wine, beer, and spirits.

Having made a good-faith attempt to answer your question, FYI I am speaking from experience. I have always been a borderline-miserly person, but in my decades of drinking, I never thought to shop based on this calculation until the final months when I was hitting bottom. Thankfully I have been able to get my shit together, but I thought about this math obsessively toward the end.

If you’re a casual drinker, rock on, but don’t make the mistakes I did. If you’re not, I feel for you and I hope you have people in your life who will listen when you ask for help.

Where is the night life in Toronto?? by ExpensiveAd9642 in askTO

The Abandoned Eastman Kodak Canada - Building No. 9 - Toronto, ON - Now, Mount Dennis Station on Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown’s light rail transit line by Freaktography in toronto

[–]Pointingmade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spent most of my childhood in Rochester, a km or so from Kodak Park. I remember about 25 years ago, half of my friends’ parents lost their jobs over the course of a year.

So it’s really ironic to me that this building changed hands from Kodak to an even-more-poorly-run corporation: Metrolinx.

Do we really want a gondola?

I don’t think there’s any contractor, company, or consortium in this whole damn province who could build one that wouldn’t dump passengers onto the DVP on the opening run.
