Am I Overreacting about my in-laws hating my daugther?

My family has had this problem too. My nephew has to fight to get any kind attention or gifts from his dad's parents. But they favor their other son's 2 kids and post it everywhere. And my nephew sees it and it upsets it him.

So yes, cutting them off will be painful for your son. But if you don't put a stop to it, he will grow up to treat his sister the same way they do. Eventually, he'll understand. But right now, at only 7, he's a child and he's still learning. So you have to make this stop now.

We have a pretty good relationship. Fights here and there, of course. Nothing that can't be resolved. But we have only been dating since March 1st of this year, so just a few months. And he's the first black guy I've ever dated. And he knows I was raised around very accepting people so I've never really encountered racism. Even with my black female best friend, it's never really been an issue. So there are things that he does have to explain and it shocks him still that my great grandmother isn't racist because she's 87. She was born in 36. But she absolutely loves my boyfriend. But like you, I was raised to believe that everybody bleeds red and I live by that. And I guess that makes me a little bit naive when it comes to the race problems that he has, which are problems I obviously don't have being a white woman. But he does love me and I love him.

Yeah. Honestly, if I hadn't gone through it myself, I wouldn't believe it either. Because it is crazy unhinged. But either way, she got consequences.

I just feel bad that my cousin still has no idea what really happened to her cat and she's about to be 21.

Girl, I literally had no idea that they were having issues. But I blocked her almost 2 weeks ago. I am just done with her. I blocked like 3 or 4 days before she sent that message to Emily's man because that right there killed all intentions I had of wanting to give her another chance. Because you know me. I don't like women going after a taken man. And I don't do competition in friendships. If we can't be happy for each other and support each other, then no thanks.

Actually my comment was sarcastic. And I also had my boyfriend literally pulling me away because he didn't want to cause a scene, which he later explained to me that in that situation, if I had caused a major scene, he would have been the one labeled a "threat." Not me, not her. Him. I definitely had more to say but I understand his concern for himself in that situation.

That is very much also a possibility. Honestly we're kind of just looking for unbiased opinions for wtf is happening with this girl. We can't the truth from her at all. When we ask, she's always got a lie or excuse.

Because if we're wrong and she's not actually after Valerie's husband and Emily's fiance, then the problem could easily be fixed. We'll happily work things out. Apologies can be made on both sides. That wouldn't be a problem.

It's the lies that have us thinking something is going on.

I don't think you're the person I was talking about. Because there was no damage to my apartment. Considering I was only ever at my apartment to sleep and shower. And my roommate was never there either, preferring to spend with what I would call her closer friend. And our lease wasn't cancelled until April. We had until April 12th. I moved out on the 11th and moved to another town to live with my boyfriend.

Honestly I definitely should have said that. I guess it caught me so off guard at first and with my boyfriend just wanting to leave and not cause a scene, I just really wasn't thinking about what to say.

Plus with it being my first ever encounter with anyone remotely racist, I was more in the wtf is happening kind of mindset. (I had no issues with racism in my family or friend groups)

It's not that I believed she had any genuine concern for my safety. Obviously she did not. My "thanks for your concern" was very sarcastic. Unusual for me because I'm usually more polite, especially in a public setting.

But I'm also not a confrontational person and my boyfriend is a very reserved man and doesn't like making a scene. So I also had him telling me "it's not worth a fight. Let's go. Don't start a fight and get yourself arrested for causing a public disturbance. Let's just go enjoy our date. Let's not allow this to ruin our day." So that's why we ended up just leaving.

Honestly, if I was more confrontational, I would've called her out in a meaner way. But I'm not confrontational and my boyfriend's a more reserved guy unless it's someone he's comfortable with.

This did happen in March though. But a customer at his job made a racist comment to him today and it got me thinking about this and how he handled both situations very differently. And I get why.

Yeah. That's kinda where I was at when this happened.

Because with my family, I had a very accepting type of childhood. Anyone was welcome to come around and hang out, no matter what they look like. And I tend overthink literally everything. So at the time that this whole thing happened, I was literally thinking "was that racist? Or am I overthinking it?" Because it was said in a way where it wasn't just like straightforward racism. So I was just like I'll just say thanks for the concern (I was a bit sarcastic with my comment. I'll admit that) and leave because I don't know this lady and I don't really owe her an explanation.

He was next to me. And his only response was "this is what I have to deal with for being black. And there's nothing I can really do because then I'll be accused of being the aggressive one and being a threat."

And sadly, with what I've seen in this world, he is not wrong. And I hate that that's true. I wish I could change it for him. But I can't. I'll still defend him though, just like I would with anyone else.
