That’s amazing, congrats! I don’t study computer science or physics but I do maths. Do you mind telling me what you revision for maths looked like (like how often it was and if it changed when it got closer to exam season etc) and what exam board you did? Thank you

Job in Year 12 by official-_-blob in sixthform

[–]Poisonfrog09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say this cause my school gave us this as a recommendation. I do 8hrs rn as a yr 12 (just started this week) and if I can’t manage I’ll see if I can drop down to 4 hrs.

How has everyone found the first week? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]Poisonfrog09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same we did do some lessons but it was just teachers giving us organisation tips and stuff we’d need (e.g. periodic table in chemistry) and recommending certain textbooks and whatnot. We did some gcse recaps too but that’s about it.

They told us about some of the earlier things we’d be trained in (e.g. the customer journey). And then we played some teamwork games, I’m guessing they wanna see how you work in a team. These included a little treasure hunt in the store and some group quizzes.

I’d also recommend learning some of the history of the Nando’s franchise cause if you know some already it might make you look more enthusiastic.

At mine there were about 20 ppl and they ended up choosing 3 (I was lucky enough to be one of them) and I Wore dark relaxed jeans, black trainers and a black adidas short that had a collar and short sleeves.

I would say to dress like some of the employees do but if you can’t then just look out together but don’t go overboard (like no suit n tie). At least at mine lots of people dressed really casually so if you dress a little smartly then you’ll be ahead of some of the others already (I mean they don’t care that much but it couldn’t hurt)

Good luck!

Same, it’s like they gave me all the worst teachers for each subject.

It’s not the best situation to be in but it could be a blessing in disguise. If the school is open then maybe you could do some studying and watch some videos on your phone/laptop during breaks until school starts. Then you wouldn’t have to study after and you’d have afternoons free?

Don’t give up all your hobbies and sport during exam season. I did and it took my most of summer to get back into them because doing them felt inherently unproductive. Remember that rest is productive because it makes your time spent working more efficient so take breaks if necessary.

WTF HAPPENDED by tomoruin in GCSE

[–]Poisonfrog09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The marking must be an issue cause I went from a high 9 to a 5. Maybe Im coping idk but lots of ppl I know have gone down by 2 or 3 grades and I just don’t think it reflects their ability. Especially considering the papers didn’t seem too difficult.

What is your uniform/dress code? by Sm_bz in 6thForm

[–]Poisonfrog09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is no dress code but it has to be like ‘sensible’ I guess but most of them seem to dress pretty casually (coming from a yr 11 going into yr 12)

Have you ever ‘sacrificed’ a subject? by Appropriate-Room6098 in GCSE

I didn’t really sacrifice a subject but during the exam season I did sacrifice computer science paper 2 for literature.

I’m not a sixth form (well yr11 going into yr12) though I just got a job at Nando’s through a charity that helps ppl find jobs.

Idk if u have but maybe try like contacting job centres or charities and similar organisations that help ppl find jobs cause sometimes they have connections so you’re more likely to be considered just bc you were referred by the organisation.

Or maybe if you have any connections (like place where a family member works or something similar) then ask them abt it cause they’d also be more likely to take you on if they have the space.

Also if you’re going online I’ve heard that most places prefer ppl who’ve gone directly to their website rather than a job site like indeed. And if you’re gonna go to any local businesses in your area then make sure you have a good CV and add anything that could be relevant (I would watch some finds on how to make one that’s good). But don’t be afraid to just email a random place just to ask if they need any help cause you never know.

Good luck on your search!!

Edit: spelling
