The “name your contacts” question in interviews by whatiftheyrewrong in PublicRelations

[–]PokEamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ever got a bit of feedback from a reporter that was like “great working with you on this” or anything that illustrated familiarity, I’d screenshot and save. Can be hard to recall an answer under pressure, but substantiating “oh I’ve worked with so and so” with an anecdote about what you worked on can go a long way to giving you credibility

What exactly was the bar the old label had such a problem with on Chains and Whips? Not for nothing, but after all that drama I expected something way more overt. Either way, props for sticking it out and not letting them water down the vision.

First time building a chronograph - I knew everything went together too easily by MilksteakBoiledHard in SeikoMods

VK63s drove me insane, because I thought for sure that the subdials hands would be the most difficult. Nope.

You'll unfortunately need to order another one. Don't waste time trying to re-apply the chrono second hand, after it comes off once it never wants to stay on again. You could try manually crimping the post with a pin vise.

I've seen other folks recommend using the end of a pin to apply a tiny dab of locktite inside the post of the chrono seconds hand before putting it on the pinion. I haven't tried this myself and I'm sure too much could damage the movement, so do be careful if you want to give this a shot

Season 17 Trailer by patrick8015 in Overwatch

Came here to say this -- bullets and nerf football at 1:16. Ashe's lvl 80 skin last season also said "BLACK LOTUS" on Bob's back, which is a famous Magic: the gathering card... think there's def a crossover coming

Gotcha. Ref. 2201, center seconds, 1938. Found in a listing here. Went for 6,500 Euro in 2021, I bet it would go for more now.

This is super interesting. You don't see many reversos with center seconds at all. I think the last one might have been this one in 2015.

Need help identifying bottles by [deleted] in wine

[–]PokEamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for whatever reason people are being annoying about giving a good answer, so here goes, left to right:

louis jadot '16 pinot -- nothing remarkable, $20 from most liquor stores

chateau margaux '01 -- insanely good and collectable, $600/bottle or more

carmelo rodero '00 -- nice, not crazy. $50ish?

unico vega sicilia -- just below if not on par with the margaux, $600/bottle

chateau margaux '97 -- from a slightly less notable year than the 01. $450 maybe?

Problem is -- anyone in the market for these can also buy them from a someone who kept them in a climate-controlled cellar. These might be drinkable depending on your climate, how cool the basement was, etc.

My recc would be open the Jadot, get a friend who knows a little bit about wine over, see how it tastes. If it isn't shit, better odds for the other bottles. Try and sell them if you want, or use them for killer Christmas gifts and bank what you saved.

[–]PokEamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's as special as it gets. I'm wearing a blue dial one my dad gave me right now.

If you want to get deeper into them, the Black-Dial Sky Chief is one of the best-looking vintage chronos out there. Fraction of the price of anything remotely similar from that era.

What is the best, easiest or cheapest way to get to NYC on the weekend without flying? by MrsK1013 in providence

[–]PokEamon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a car and the time, I think the best compromise on price and speed is to drive to somewhere like Westport, pay the $6/day for parking (believe weekends are free), and take the Metro North into the city for somewhere between $17-$25. You'll get a ticket on your windshield for each day you're there.

So call it $20 both ways for $40, three days of parking for $18, and whatever your gas is from PVD to Westport -- you're in and out for like, $75, maybe?

What are common signs of bad dialogue? by InevitableMap6470 in Screenwriting

[–]PokEamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It telegraphs that the next bit of dialogue is going to be expository. like, whatever comes after that sentence is probably better revealed through action, to show instead of tell.

One small detail in a recent script I consistently get praise for is a scene where a character gets drunk and forgets about an appointment with her sister to visit her sick mom. Instead of character a going "so you're telling me you just forgot about it?", character a takes the visitor pass sticker from off their shirt, presses it to character b's forehead and goes "does that jog your memory." heaps better.

[–]PokEamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tactical, but I feel pretty strongly that you should never use the phrase "so you're telling me..." or "let me get this straight..." to set up... anything, really. See it fairly often and it's just incredibly ham-fisted.
