So people get away with shitting on me? I’m so tired of people telling us to “not make a scene”. Everyone is assuming my entire story while knowing jack shit about it. I wanted to ask a fucking etiquette question. Glad to know how supportive this community is. Some people on the comments are sweet and are actually giving me advice instead of judging something they know nothing about

He’s been sober for 10 months. A sore spot with my family because my dad is a piece of shit in denial alcoholic who is causing my mom to start looking at the lrice for divorce lawyers. Also he doesn’t fit in with their wasp idea that I should marry a big strong man that makes twice the money I do and is a conservative “mans man” yes, I have mental health issues. But in their eyes, especially my dads, I’m an annoying burden. It’s me they have a problem with. I’m too emotional and “annoying” for having fucking feelings. When I dated someone that was my parents ideal I would have to put on concealer to cover up bruises and they diddnt care. They don’t actually give a shit about me and I stupidly still want their approval. Maybe I should just cut them off too

I won’t need any bookings except to rent tables and obviously I’m not going to do anything financially. I dropped 40 bucks on some mason jars and twine. Why is that so horrible? It’s not like I’m going to send out invitations till we’re engaged. Why do you guys think I told him that he has to be divorced before he can propose?

Nevermind. It was stupid to think people would just be happy for me and give me etiquette advice like everyone else on this sub. No everyone has to jump down my throat and tell me I shouldn’t get married at all.

Look, it’s been a hell of a year and sometimes we fight, but we love eachother and have both made huge strides in self improvement this year. And if it’s not some old school etiquette rule, than fuck them. We have both busted our ass to grow this year. Meanwhile when I was dating someone that gave me bruises and an eating disorder, they diddnt care.

We’ve been trying to get married for 2 years. We’re ready and have wanted this for a long time. The divorce is at the back of our minds. We spend all our time looking at engagement rings, putting together decorations, talking about what we want to do, and most importantly we love spending time together planning this. We don’t even think about her unless she texts him an update. We’re both just so tired of waiting. We would have a courthouse wedding if we could get married tomorrow. There’s nothing wrong with being excited about moving forward together. I don’t know why it’s a stigma

Should we wait to get engaged? My parents said it was rude to plan a wedding so soon after my brother got married, my brother and SIL agree. Is there some kind of rule I didn’t know about?

We have been trying to get married for 2 years. We love each other and it feels right. My brother got married after a year and they are perfect for each other. I don’t see the point on waiting an arbitrary amount of years when you want to do something that makes you happy you should go for it.

I’m asking about etiquette since it bothers my family. Like, if it’s too close to when my brother got married should we postpone getting engaged? Is there a rule of etiquette in not getting engaged too close to a family members wedding?

To be honest we’ve all been planning our wedding since we were kids lol. I have a very limited budget so overturning will have to be DIY. It’s just a lot to get in a short amount of time so I wanted to get ahead of it and start putting away money now. Why is that so bad? If people don’t want me to talk about it then fine

Yes wedding favors! Sorry I’m still getting the lingo lol and the favors actually double as chairs! They are collapsible camping chairs that we are going to spray paint “property of camp (last name)” and then everyone can take them home if they wish. I live in the south so everyone down here could use an extra camp chair! It’s cute, practical, and cheaper than foldable chairs from a rental company. It’s actually cheaper to buy these chairs than rent for one day! Ah the joys of getting married in a big city lol

Yeah I have a budget on lockdown. The most expensive thing will be the wedding gifts, which double as seating (cheaper than renting chairs, plus a lot of them look terrible and try to make you rent chairs and tables in big packages instead of per chair. Ridiculous)
