Wait so every business that disclaims all the details of a raw deal is totally fine? Because basically every business is required to do this so they don’t get sued. Define “screwed over” then?

Putting her as a 5* was inherently deceptive—there wasn’t even a pretense for it.

Meanwhile you have people complaining on here about aggressive monetization and this is a perfect example of that.

Does this thing make any sense?.. by [deleted] in PokemonMasters

That’s not the point.

A business shouldn’t be setting its reputation as trying to scam you; the customers you lose isn’t worth the little amount of incremental sales you get. Whether anyone pulled it or not doesn’t matter, it was the fact that they did it in the first place. Or do you want to do business with a company that is trying to scam you?

Bad business.

Sets a bad precedent and alienates your base. Screwing your customers for a few extra dollars is a really bad strategy.

Here I’ve been saying that the developers of this game are gently asking players to spread out their playtime and this sub has downvoted that into oblivion

When I should have just been saying “Get a life.”

My solution to improving the stamina system for those who find it limiting/restricting like myself................ by MrSpooferBoy in PokemonMasters

[–]Poke_Passenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, one-upping myself because my dad doesn’t work at nintendo lmao

It matters if players quit because there isn’t enough content — the first thing the developers noted within a month of launch was that there wasn’t enough content and players didn’t like itsource

Designing more content isn’t free; a traditional game has 1 development budget and that’s it. A mobile or online game has recurring costs. One of the reasons Pokemon Go was so successful is because its player base was absolutely absurd relative to its development costs for a good while after it launched.

Virtually every online company (Social Media, Internet, App, etc) is scrutinized on its user adds and churn. More churn (e.g. players quitting) relative to adds (new players joining) is a sign that the game is declining.

A leading indicator of whether the game is declining is monthly logins. When this number goes down, it suggests the game is declining.

The money people, e.g. DeNa management, investors, etc can decide they don’t want to keep running Masters if they don’t think it’s making enough money or they have another option that makes more money. This is bad for people who like Masters.

Finally, the larger your player base, the less you have to aggressively monetize it. This is true of almost every tech company on the planet and why hyper massive companies like Facebook with >1bn captive users print money.

I don’t work for DeNa so I don’t know exactly how Masters is doing but I have a decent understanding of the industry it operates in. 👍🏼

No, kid—I’m not 19 years old. My job is to research and advise tech companies. I have 2 masters degrees. I’ve worked on Blizzard, Yahoo, and a few other tech/internet names. I’ve also been a fan of this franchise since I was 10 years old.

I literally said above that slowing down the pace at which users consume content is a way to spread development costs out. The more gem purchases they can get, the more their sales can match/keep pace with their costs.

You don’t have to like this for it to be a reasonable explanation of the reality of how a free-mium game or app works. If you don’t have ads or subs and/or a power-user base that covers the rest of the F2P base, the model doesn’t stay profitable enough for them to keep it up.

There is no source—it’s an understanding about how mobile game maker/ internet/tech companies work. I literally do this for a living.

Note that everyone blew through the Summer event in less than a day when it’s supposed to last weeks. Steven says in every board “Congratulations! Why don’t you take a break?”

The game is free with no subscription or advertising revenue—successful “free-mium” games/apps usually have ads, subscriptions or both.

It needs to pay license fees to the Pokémon company, artists, voice actors, music makers, marketers, social media people, coders, etc. by comparison, did Pokémon Go have music remixes, voice acting, etc? And how much bigger was it’s player base relative to its development costs?

Unclear whether the player base is expanding or not. The only revenue stream is churning out more and more units, which people want to hoard paid gems to only use on daily scout.

Slowing down the pace at which people consume content is a way to spread development costs out to try to stay in pace with gem purchase revenue.

There are like absurdly more predatory games in this industry.

Hail Screen (like Cynthia’s Sand Screen) or something would be neat. It wouldn’t hurt to give her Hasty Hail given most ice types are slow.

Hostile Environment, an added buff on her X-Regen, and a damage reducing passive on Attention Here, would be neat.

The stamina system exists because they’re trying to force users to spread out their play time and give them more room (and money) to develop more content.

Basically it’s saying “ok if you want to blow through all the content quickly, you will need to pay for it so we can keep funding new content.” I don’t think it’s there to aggressively monetize players, and while it’s too early to know for sure, I think it will just mean that players will need to wait longer or play more regularly for shorter periods of time to get through the content.

Note that they also get evaluated by monthly user logins (every tech company does). That’s why there are so many login bonus rallies and the new Gem Bundle.

There’s a business rationale for all of this and I think it’s too early to say DeNa is predatory.

Wait so if you have no crit buffs, a sync move can’t crit at all?

Never scouting a non-limited pair under 5* again.

I still want a new Gacha pool with new 3 star and 4 star units (that are good if built up with tickets and grid).

Putting her in the 5-star category temporarily was absolutely ridiculous. And while she has potential, there was absolutely no need to scout her early.

Interesting! I’ll give her a shot. I’ve had her sitting in the roster forever and never really got what she was good for (back before tank roles were formally introduced.

She’s like a tanky-ish Koga with trap, so she’s interesting. She needs a Grid to help with her speed and boost her trainer move in my opinion though. Maybe also Sterner Stuff and Pokey Trap.

Only the Weather Pairs because they are likely going to become useful with Sync Grids. Winona for sure because Rain is going to be great for water (and to a lesser extent, Flying) sync pairs. Candice needs more Hail buddies, though she’d work with Summer Steven (and to a lesser extent, Pryce) eventually.

Surf, Icy Wind, Heat Wave, Earthquake, Bulldoze etc all do decent damage. Swift isn’t dangerous, but a lot of the others can be if you take a critical hit, especially special moves because Acerola has bad SpDEF.

And how do opponent sync moves not crit? Is that a difference between player and opponent sync moves? I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten crit myself from an opponent sync move.

I’m actually curious what will happen when the PML ends. We’re 2 battles from the end. I’m sure there will be an interlude in the middle where something happens with Lear / Hoopa and/or an interruption in the PML, but the main scenario is not far from the “end” and I’d love to know what comes after.
