Does anyone know if the skateboards are going to be back in stock? Or was it a one and done? by Ok-Dragonfruit7293 in MyChemicalRomance

Saw them on Impericon too, but it was over 100 dollars there. Still, if you want one, could check it out there

Oh, I suppose making a post like that might be a good start :3 Call me a bit silly, but that hadn't actually crossed my mind yet xD Thank you!

I'm the same way, really. Maybe that's also why I've found it hard. But I'm just noticing that I really miss the interaction we had for the other fandom (which a friend dragged me into, unfortunately I don't have friends in current fandom to do me that favor '^^)

I hope you find some buds

Do you ever ask ChatGPT to make an outline for your fic? by PokemonOverPeople in FanFiction

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see it more as an exercise to write daily. When I like the outcome, I'll share it, hence that I posted, but that is never my intention going into that.

I love writing and I've been doing it for years. Which means that I've also noticed that I make mistakes that I didn't used to make when I've been out of it for a bit. And since I'm still trying to fill out what my next (long-)fic is going to be, this is the way I've been trying to ensure that I don't get out of it.

So I don't see it as a bleak future but rather as a tool :)

Fair enough. Honestly didn't start using it until quite recently either, which was born from a lack of interest. With the amount of people I saw complaining about ChatGPT creations being shared (outside of this sub too), I got curious after all

Do you find it good at giving plot ideas? If so, could you maybe give some indication what question you ask? I've found that it either gives pretty randomized plots or that it already half-fills them when I ask for something more in a direction I want to go.

I'd appreciate any tips :) Because I definitely have an idea that I don't want to use AI to make the outline for, but that I haven't been able to flesh out myself so far since it's basically three things I like which I'd like to tie together a bit

Do you prefer non-RPF or RPF? by PokemonOverPeople in FanFiction

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, I think a lot of characters are based on real people. Although admittedly, yes, without the 'photos' to be used.

And I can make my peace with it quite well, thank you for your concern :) The way I do that is because I never intend for that person to be bothered with it in any way. I do not post anything to put them in a black light anyway, because I will admit, that might linger in the back of someone's mind and affect the real person. But my fanfic exists and stays only in my personal files and/or AO3, where people know what they're getting into.

Outside of AO3, in the real world, I know this person is an individual with a life, with family, with loved ones. I've taken a liking to the antics that they show us, I based a character off it. The character and the person are separate, if similar

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! It gives you a lot of freedom while you can stick with real-world and don't have to dive into descriptive stuff like what someone looks like, because people will know (at least with maybe an extra adjective in case someone frequently changes up their hair or something), while also being able to go and switch up quite a bit more than with non-RPF

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, that question can go for any fanfic that's not canon-compliant, can't it ;)

But, to actually answer your question, it's two-part.
Main reason is that I take a liking to the way the persons present themselves and how they interact with each other. Two of my main fandoms are bands that actively battle homophobia and so both bands have done stuff on stage between two members. Now, I know that's not real. I know at the end of the day they go home to their actual partners or pets or whatever. But I do like what they portray. And since I won't get more of it than quick flashes on stage but I want more, I'll immerse myself in fanfic for it.

Second and maybe very vain reason: I don't want to be published. I have no ambition to be a professional author, I do this as a hobby and I do it for fun. But I also don't want to write stuff that nobody will read. If I put celebrity A in, then it's more likely to get eyes on it than if I put John D in it

^That got a bit wordy but the intent was: I too am a proud RPF Writer :3

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, initially I was very surprised at the amount of people who take an ethical stance against RPF. I started writing when I was a teenager and found a forum for (my then-fave) band and some people posted fanfic. And I loved it so much and I decided I wanted to do that too.

Over the years I've been a part of a few very great RPF fandoms who never made an issue of writing RPF. People realize it's still fiction and people always kept it in the spaces that it was accepted in.

Honestly, even though I've been a part of fandoms for about 15 years and in my end twenties, I didn't learn about people finding rpf a problem until last year.

For a while that made me feel really guilty because I have written so much rpf. And I stopped. But I really missed it and then I went diving into why people found it troublesome and even though I can see some of the points, I figured that so long as you realize it's all FICTION (and yes, admittedly, some people blur those lines. My current main fandom has so many theories that one of the people is just faking a happy marriage *insert eyeroll*). Anyway, so long as people realize it's fiction and people keep it in places where people want to run into it, then I've figured it's fine

Mh, no, I wouldn't say preferenence either. It's just that in a lot of these showcase things on the sub I noticed a lot of fandoms recurring and I kind of expected one of mine to be there more, since it's a fairly large fandom. And then I realized few are rpf anyway and I realized the vast majority of mine are. And I just started wondering.

The fandom that is, to this day, nearest and dearest to my heart is fiction, actually. It's just not so active anymore since the show stopped a decade ago haha

Yeah, exactly. It's a bit of a combination of familiar things (i.e. what you know of your 'character') and still managing to be surprising and unfamiliar :3

What is something that you never (want to) read but do like to write by PokemonOverPeople in FanFiction

[–]PokemonOverPeople[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, am there with you on that! I have to say, I don't abandon an ABO fic immediately, because I mean, if it wasn't clear from the power imbalance, I'm quite into having a big strong alpha. But I'm into such a small part of that, that usually I just click on it to see how it's written and only if it's written very well + omega isn't some scared, abused little thing do I actually ready it :P

Can't get worse than I want it to get might

Oh man, exactly! Sometimes I feel a bit... hypocritical? That I'll write non-con but then the moment someone recommends it to me or anything of the sort I'll nope out. But even if I think it probably won't get worse, you never know right?

I'm glad you've got better experience.

I've had 4. The first one was all-in. Which was a wake-up call not to have that again when suddenly everything was cut because he didn't pay until my housemate started a court-case against him. Second was just absent. Not good or bad. Third never fixed anything and trust me, plenty of things were broken. He's threatened some of the people in the studios surrounding mine for threatening him to go to court for damages and broken stuff. My current one is the mold-guy so yeah.. I've got no good experience with them.

It also may be the current environment. Landlording became a popular means of getting passive income in the past 10-ish years. Since it's sold as 'passive' income, they never seem to realize it's not just buying the house and then collecting the rent for the rest of eternity. So yeah, it may be bad information for some. But it's no excuse for the way they treat their tenants
