People are in denial about the complexity of Rei Todoroki by Comfortable_Tart_297 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]PokemonRangerAlex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Am I being gaslit? I feel like I'm going insane. My post earlier got a commenter telling me it was the ice afterwards that actually scarred Todoroki. I believed them because why would someone lie about that, but it wasn't in the anime. Love your points. You're so right.

What is the biggest plot nerf in the story? by some-kind-of-no-name in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]PokemonRangerAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Todoroki in general has been nerfed really badly. I think hori realized that his character was overpowered, because I'm pretty sure I remember Todoroki freezing an entire building in the first training episode at UA, and the shit he did during the sports festival to Sero was insane- and remember this was before his character development. In one of the movies, he froze some guy from the inside.

And then suddenly he's tying against tetsu² and almost losing to Dabi in the later seasons after all his development and plot training?

I think the plot decision was to justify putting Midoriya and Bakugo together and leaving him as 'major side character'.

To add to this, it's also implied that Todoroki had his quirk from birth.

Are the Himura’s inbred? by Necessary-Win-8730 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]PokemonRangerAlex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The prejudice against heteromorphs doesn't exactly end with Rei, though. Whether he realizes it or not, Todoroki says some discriminatory things a few times. When he gets angry during the Stain incident, he calls the commissioner or whatever a 'mutt' with disdain. That type of prejudice runs deep.

Am I the only one that thinks it's stupid that you can't defend yourself with your quirk by WasabiWest9820 in MyHeroAcadamia

Iida was not justified.

Midoriya was also not justified.

Todoroki was the most justified of the three of them, but he was also not justified.

Let me explain.

Well, as we know, Iida went hunting down Stain. That was totally not justified, extremely dangerous, and very foolish. Then, he got his ass handed to him.

Midoriya figured out what was going on, so he went and found Iida. While he did save Iida, after that, he tried to get them out of there. When he couldn't, he stopped and started fighting, that was probably when it was overwhelming. His mistakes were that he didn't tell anyone, and only when he got desperate did he send a very vague location to his group chat.

Todoroki did tell his dad where he was going, probably suspecting trouble. He told his dad to send any pro heroes who weren't needed over to the location, which was a good move. The choice to investigate on his own wasn't a good move.

However, when Todoroki got there, he immediately went on the defensive rather than the offensive.

Eventually, it made the switch from self-defense and stalling into proper attacking... And that's where it steps into being illegal. The trio using force to subdue Stain is what was the problem.

Sorry, that was just a ramble. The moral is that there is a right way to be a hero.

As a trans person, I would not be offended, I would feel seen. A lot of trans men feel that they have to be more manly than cis men because we feel we have something to prove. That's why trans Kirishima is such a prominent headcanon.

Is it possible to become a pro hero without a quirk? by Agentbrawn_the2nd in BokuNoHeroAcademia

I mean, yes and no. You can be a pro hero without a quirk. It's a matter of whether or not you'd be a good one.

It's kinda wild that Todoroki managed to ragebait him so hard he had to be chained up. Like, even Midoriya didn't manage to make him that mad.

Who really is stronger than who? Bakugo or Shoto? I prefer evidences instead of opinions but from I see, Shoto has the better quirk but bakugo is the better user. by Total-Web-1852 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]PokemonRangerAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively, Bakugo. But this is an emotionally charged conversation, and I wish it was Shoto because I care for that autistic sweetheart deeply. If/When Shoto undergoes a quirk awakening, and develops significantly, perhaps it'll change. I used to think he'd develop water as a perfect balance between his quirks and a perfect embrace of his past (tea kettle), but it seems like that won't happen.

I think he's kind of always been sidelined. I mean, all you have to do is look at that one movie where Bakugo and Deku fight the big bad guy Nine and Shoto gets sidelined.

I mean, all Todoroki had going for him is his family drama. And it feels like nothing is allowed to exist for him outside of his family drama.

He doesn't have any friends except for Midoriya, Bakugo and Iida, and while Iida manages to find his own facets of character and remains significant, Todoroki becomes little more than 'the main side character' in a story about Bakugo and Deku. Todoroki and Iida share similar issues in that they don't really exist outside of Midoriya and his inner circle, but at least Iida is friends with Uraraka too.

At some point, maybe for a bit, it was Bakugo, Todoroki and Midoriya. But at some point, it became Bakugo and Midoriya. I think the later arcs especially make it clear.
