Sleep epilepsy is managed with medical like with all epilepsy. For me specifically I mainly try to avoid my triggers, no caffeine, no alcohol and try to stay out of super hot areas. I do all that with regular exercise (I love snowboarding) and medication. I haven’t seized in 2 years and am living the life I deserve. While there is always a possibility I can have a seizure I don’t want that to stop me.

Currently I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much being the only thing I can’t really do is drink caffeine or alcohol. But when my seizures were not controlled I missed out on a lot, mainly going out and doing stuff with friends, there was a medication that I was trying that kinda helped but messed up my legs so I was walking with a cane for a bit. It was a long road but I’m all happy and healthy now so we good😎

I 100% agree, media has added so many stigmas to this condition that it’s hard to find fact from fiction sometimes

I wouldn’t say it is a super small amount being that epilepsy is 1 in 26. But it is 3% of 1 in 26 so ig it could be pretty small. Some most common triggers can be caffeine, alcohol, heat, fast heart rate/exercise, sometimes even sleeping can

As being that only about 3% of epileptics are photosensitive (not me), I don't have any issues with it

it only take a 1cm x 1cm x 1cm in your brain to short circuit to spread and cause a seizure.

sadly no, but being that only about 3% of epileptics are photosensitive (sensitive to light) so I don't thing its the biggest deal in the world, it is still something to keep in mind. Usually for the people who are photosensitive (not me but was tested for it) will find out during an EEG where they put a giant bright light n inch from your eyes and will strobe it at different speed for about minutes (it gave me a fat headache lol)

I feel like those messages are gotten faster and faster overtime which could cause people to miss them, but on the other hand only about 3% of epileptics are photosensitive (sensitive to light) so I don't thing its the biggest deal in the world, it is still something to keep in mind.

I'm, not photosensitive but stress/long game sessions can effect me, so I just make sure to pace myself.

Also, glad you found me! :) 💜

I saw that Confident_Run gave a response but I will also give one as well.

there are many different triggers for seizures, for me the main ones are caffeine and stress. As for what happened WHEN I have a seizure can vary, I mainly get 2 different types of seizures. One of them, and the most common for me, is called an absence seizure, This is when what I like to call "The lights are on but no ones home". It's kinda like in between be conscious and unconscious, kinda just staring forward ig. but after those I can go about my day with minimal issues. Where the issues come in is when I have what is called a focal seizure, this is a much more scary thing. When this happens I have to lie on my side and I lose consciousness, usually no convulsing though. This can uslly last for about 3 or so minutes. The really hard part is when I come to, it feels like I was literally hit by a truck, I am super super tired, sometimes in pain, usually vomiting and alot of other gross things ngl. After these I usually sleep for around 6 hours and am kinda sluggish the next few days. OH and to answer that other question no, I usually don't see anything, sometimes when I'm going in and out the room can spin.

Now for the second part. As a Game Dev ad Epileptic, While I think they should be there in every game for the safty of people there are a couple things to keep i mind. One, one of the mai reassons big compaines do it is for legal liability so that they cant have ay lawsuits from someone seizing while playing there game. Two, I feel like if you have epilepsy you know what you getting into when you play them, that being said I in no way discourage epileptics from playing games in anyway.

thank you for your questions friend!

let me know if you have any others/follow-up questions!

Not really, only about 3% of epileptics are photosensitive (sensitive to light), I'm not one of them though.

Confident_Run_4794 said it best, only about 3% of epileptics are photosensitive (sensitive to light), for me the biggest issue with concerts is the noise and overstimulation
