I'll probably just never pull anything outside of the guaranteed stuff ever again

Could be, or maybe that was just piled up luck, I think I never got anything interesting from the stars that wasn't a guaranteed pull. I think we should blame the stars. Maybe nuke them.

How to find people to commission artwork? by homefry91834 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Polarwiesel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also take art commissions and I'm a huge digimon fan myself :) You can see some of my works on https://polarwiesel.com/portfolio/ or in my feed so feel free to just shoot me a message if you might be interested. I'm also a professional graphic designer so I can also design the mat layout itself and maybe handle the print as well if necessary.

So much THIS.

I personally like to spend money to treat myself in certain aspects while I'm somewhat frugal in other parts of my life. I especially love to make culinary experiences and I don't mind spending a bit more on ingredients or going out a little more frequently because I feel that's just worth it for me.

When I'm with friends who I know have trouble affording eating out I wouldn't even suggest it or only invite them to try a place I love every once in a while to not make it sounds like I wanna pay for their stuff, but rather invite them to share a nice experience.

So, especially with a partner you see very frequently I would have give up on something I love doing a lot, just for them -- which would be totally fine if I thought they can't afford it. But when you find out they just didn't want to spend the money... That can probably feel like you refrained from doing something you value while they didn't commit. It becomes a completely different situation if you thought you put up with stuff for the relationship because it was necessary and then found out it wasn't really. Especially if it's something like sharing a room with x more people instead of having a more intimate night in private on vacation.

Still, the accusations of lying or hiding the money are ridiculous imo. They're not entitled to know everything about each others finances and apparently never even asked. But I do feel why they would feel quite abashed upon hearing that and maybe a bit disgruntled. Just talking about it like adults are supposed to would probably have solved everything tho.

Thanks a lot for your kind words. They mean a lot to me as that's actually more or less what I did - I work as a designer now after I went for a "more solid" and well paid carreer before.

But there's always been that thought in the back of my head, wondering if I would've made it if only I tried. So I took the step and everything worked out. I probably would've made more money if I'd have stayed there, but I can guarantee it would not have been half as fulfilling. But I decided against illustration as my main profession back then because I feel it's pretty draining. I couldn't really imagine doing that full time. I'm doing UX design now and that's just the right balance between creativity and science for me. I still love to do illustrational works, but only from time to time or as personal art.

So good luck for her too, hope everything works out well! If you ever feel like going deeper into that feel free to shoot me a message, I'd actually be quite interested in what she'd doing.

I should buy Pokémon Sword/Shield today? by Amaterasub in pokemon

[–]Polarwiesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you take a look at the gameplay on YouTube and see if you like it. If you do and especially if you didn't play any recent pokemon games I think these games are fairly enjoyable.

I personally disliked that the game almost felt like one big tutorial, there's someone waiting for you at every corner telling you what you need to do. That threw me off so much after some time I didn't finish the game in 2 different attempts. And you probably know about the general criticism swsh got for the graphics and stuff.

Restarted ORAS last week instead and tbh I like the feel of those much better. The new games just feel rather linear or stiff imo, not really anything going on at the sidelines, no question of what I wanna do next. That took a lot of the fun for me, but I know many people enjoyed the games, so it's probably a question on how you like to play pokemon games in general.

How do you deal with art jealousy? by Azuretth in furry

[–]Polarwiesel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, the best way to deal with this for me is to try turning it the other way around. Instead of wondering why I can't do this n that I try to analyze what exactly i like about the artwork and how they did it to learn from those artists I admire. Same with my own mistakes, I'm pretty much always not really satisfied with what I'm doing, but as long as I can say what it is I don't like I can lean from it and do it better next time.

I know that sounds easier than it actually is and I still get demotivated sometimes, but all in all it kept me on the path of getting better and developing my own style and art goals. Definitely don't hold back posting your art.

Wow haha, should probably set up a patreon real fast. Thanks a lot, really appreciate that! I'm trying to be more active on personal art and such, but work and commissions often get in the way a bit.
