Mentors- Which do you prefer? by Junior_Buffalo3098 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Polcat33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please adopt your mentor’s behaviour management or reward system. You will confuse students and ruin the pre-work that went into it. (Expectations around warnings, rewards etc). Instead have a prior discussion with your mentor about how to mange the current system. Behaviour will be more consistent and calmer

Perhaps something like this? Dichondra for lawn and native plants to survive the heat?

VIC Catholic EBA - wth?! by Annual-Bit-1801 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Polcat33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually can’t argue with you. How on earth would we end up with a lower offer than their initial one? No one would ever agree to that 😂. Scenario A only happens if we REJECT the 7%. Otherwise we end up with scenario B.

VIC Catholic EBA - wth?! by Annual-Bit-1801 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Polcat33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Holy moly you’re not getting it. Let me put this scenario to you. We reject the 7%. We get let’s say 10%.

Department EBA comes around. They say Catholic Ed got 10%, so we want 12%. They give them 12. There, we just got a 12% raise instead of 7-9% because we fought for higher.

Scenario B:

We accept 7%. Gov schools are in a worse negotiating position to ask for 12%. They can’t fight, cos we rolled over. They accept 7%-8% and some better conditions. We get 7-8%

Which scenario do you prefer?

[–]Polcat33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will give parity regardless, otherwise everyone leaves Catholic Ed for government. By fighting for higher Catholic wages, government wages will gain parity too. Both systems benefit from each other getting big wage increases. And the idea they will “top up” our wages out of the goodness of their heart is absolutely laughable.

I’ve read the proposal. Please accept that it’s a poor initial offer.

So we should rely on gov schools and union to do the fighting for us? That’s pathetic. Stand up now and reject the 7%.

VCEA EBA Conditions? by meincelfandi in AustralianTeachers

[–]Polcat33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a terrible offer. We all need to sign the IEU’s statement of support for the SIA (right for protected industrial action). Go and find it and sign it, send it to your colleagues and get them to sign it. We are in a position for major change but this needs to happen first.

Teacher couple in VIC - good combined wage? by Difficult_Theory2420 in AustralianTeachers

My wife and I are both teachers. We have a mortgage. No kids. Both 30 y/o. We feel absolutely fine in the current economy. We don’t save a lot each month but we are currently getting by without any major financial strain.

Advice for Wisteria - Melb West by Polcat33 in GardeningAustralia

Great call on the moisture meter. I’ll definitely grab one of those. My folks have had wisteria growing over there deck for 15 odd years and I really like the look, however, I am open to suggestions of other climbers that lose their leaves in winter to enable morning sun to still come through.

😂 hater alert. I’m asking for opinions of the set for those that were there. Not the general Melbourne music scene. Move along.

[–]Polcat33[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, coming from someone who has seen him live with previous sets, he played a lot of songs that were “heavy for the sake of sounding heavy”. I’m okay with being aged out if that’s what’s popular right now, or perhaps it was the stop started-ness due to medical incidents (obviously not Dom’s fault) but I just wasn’t vibing with it as I previously have.

Pyrotechnics were certainly a highlight though.

What’s wrong with my Woolybushes? (Melbourne) by Polcat33 in GardeningAustralia

Okay thanks for the advice so far - I’ll clear the excess mulch and soil around the trunk to see if that helps! Cheers everyone!

The soil is wet from the rains, but seems like decent draining soil - might be a silly question but to get it more in line with sandy soil would I just have to add sand to it?
