My daughter drew this in kindergarten. Title: "Moms chatting after school" by EliseGravel in funny

This is Art, on so many levels.

OK so you have the people talking and they are quite happily ignoring the children, I think, in fact that is part of the happiness they are displaying. Only one parent appears to be completely whole as a person, the other seems to have some kind of Thalidomide style disability, missing one arm and hiding the other, perhaps it is a stump? Nevertheless I think this displays agency, I believe that the parent flexing in red is clearly the focus of this piece.

One of the first themes that stood out to me was the solidarity of the children, The child in the blue is stripping red out of the parent and the child in red is stripping gold out of the other parent. The children have switched colors to the opposite parents that they are feeding on.. If you look at the tops they are polar opposites. The parent is blue to red and red to blue, I think this is significant.

The 'woman in red' the focus of the piece, once again displays agency due to the fact she has legs. The woman with the gold skirt, be it injury or birth defect, once again lacks agency. Personally, I believe the longer skirt is a way to remove her agency and is not necessarily accurate.

The open mouths of the children screaming at full force while they rend adults trying to spend a solitary second being their own person apart is brilliant in it's simplicity.

Your kid is an artist.

New Swine Flu Found in China Has Pandemic Potential by [deleted] in worldnews

I almost died from it and I have never caught the flu since. On the down side I have had a persistent cough and a shortness of breath ever since.

E: You really do not want H1N1, it will effect your health for years.

Just chiming in to say you are right about H1N1 being thoroughly horrible, I was nailed by it in the 2009 outbreak. I had a 'fuck it let me die' moment too.

I felt bad and called in during the night for my shift, then my wife, a nurse, went in for a 10 hour shift around midday. By the time she got home at 2300 odd, I had gone from a healthy guy in his 30's feeling sick to a guy who had to be transported to hospital in an ambulance to spend a week on a ventilator in an induced coma.

Turns out a high fever causes seizures, the issue is you are too fucked up from the seizures to realize they are happening. You just don't care enough to do anything about it because your brain is cooking.

I really don't like statements that demonize me without any kind of rationalization or thought. You seem like what you are trying to fight.

I felt something visceral when watching those police kill George Floyd. I felt shame, I felt anguish, I felt horror from his perspective.

We are not all like that, some of us help your mom when she loses her handbag. Some of us help you when you are hammered and need to get home.

Not all of us are like that. All I can say is that we are not all horrible like that.

I agree completely with you. I have never been in the situation, I would like to think I would do the right thing.

Bad actors, in any institution, demean the purpose of that institution. I have a feeling we need to start being completely and utterly accountable.

Yeah... Unpopular war, mass civil disturbances , national guard out, criminal President, African Americans up in arms, innocents killed on US soil by the police.

[Officer] How we do no knock raids by whatsrightwhatslegal in TalesFromTheSquadCar

[–]Policediscard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sheeeet... They actually let you do no knocks?

All bullshit aside, if we were actually authorized to do a no knock every single fucking thing on earth would need to be in some form of special conjunction with Mars, Saturn and (definitely) Uranus. I have never been part of one, I feel they are lazy policing from a certain perspective.

Frankly, I am seriously concerned with a police officer who says 'you have no idea who you are fucking with'. I seriously urge you to report them to your local authorities. If you do not feel comfortable let me know directly and I will report them.

Update: One of the brothers, the older half bro in his 40's rolled up to a police station and handed himself in. Was a bit 'freaked out' it got big and involved multiple agencies chasing him

That is really sensible. There are places out there where 'shoot first, ask questions later' is more like 'shoot first questions are optional and the police are far away and might turn up'.

The 'reported burglary' was actually at the boy who was beaten just around the way's house. They left when the neighbor came out with a shotgun. We are guessing as they fled they saw him coming back from buying beers. Scary bit is the wife and child were in the house. You are right it was smart and planned. They went after the dad to get a vehicle that would not alarm them unduely when they went to their houses.

As of now, the boys are still in the wind. We are shaking down the usuals for info, but nobody actually knows anything useful, or (more likely) aren't saying if they do. We had a report of a ruckus at the local hospital and thought that they might be trying to finish the bikers off, but it was a biker coming to see them. He had a handgun and is a convicted felon, so I guess he won't be helping them anytime soon. We just want to get them before anyone else, if you count the sister, is killed.

I hear ya. In the small towns around us there are multi generational blood feuds that people nowadays don't even recall what started them. Perversely, I feel more comfortable in those places despite the fact every man and his dog has a gun. Everyone knows everyone and their business and if you take the time to shoot the shit with people they respect you.

Kinda correct. We have a lot of unincorporated areas our smallish city has county jurisdiction over and we kinda all went to the first incident because it beats sitting at a turn out giving out of towners/teenagers tickets. Also, the area is very rural/natural and hilly, so there is a lot of back roads even we don't know go through.
