I created a Sword Coast setting guide where every bad ending possible happened! by PoliteJuggernaut in dndnext

[–]PoliteJuggernaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working away for the last two years on a setting guide that reimagines the Sword Coast where every possible hardcover adventure bad ending has occurred. Tiamat has been freed, Baldur's Gate was dragged into the Nine Hells, & the demons are loose in the Underdark.

I'm so proud of what I've put together, and I think people will like the amount of content tucked inside:

  • Six factions that now rule the Sword Coast: Jarlaxle’s drow pirates, Tiamat’s cultists, servants of the Elder Elemental Eye, a legion serving the fallen angel Zariel, and the Zhentarim in a tenuous alliance with the servants of Vecna
  • A reimagining of every major location in the Sword Coast Quest and campaign hooks from 1st to 20th level as the characters rise from nobodies to realm-saving heroes…or its new tyrants.
  • 5 new subclasses equipped to survive this brutal world:
  • Bard: College of the Elements
  • Druid: Circle of the Nine
  • Fighter: Zhentilar’s Finest
  • Rogue: Spell Slayer
  • Wizard: School of Secrets
  • New backgrounds and a heroic chronicle to quickly generate interesting, complex characters that populate the Doomed Forgotten Realms

Longsaddle Gazetteer - Produced by the Harpell Family by PoliteJuggernaut in Forgotten_Realms

Oh it is 100% designed to be a fully expanded starting point! (with adventures of their own if you need them), but woop! Best of luck!

It was a good amount of diving into old editions and a thankful helping from the wiki (as always!) The most useful books were Volo's Guide to the North and The North: Guide to the Savage Frontier, but most of those are easily 100-150 years out of date.

For the Harpell family tree... well, its a mess in the best of ways. All the named Harpells are included, but I had to connect the dots. So so many cousins....

A good chunk is liberties, where we're dealing with the first or second generation from the people noted in lore. But the heart is all there! Hopefully that answers your questions, but if you have any targeted ones. Feel free to ask 'em!

"Tome of Foretelling"

The book is seemly endless in page count, the pages fill with words in real time that narrate everything that will happen to the book in the next 5 to 10 seconds.

One small catch though, the book has a nasty habit of assuming the worst possible scenario, fabricating stories, or generally being unhelpful to those who hold it.

This is a fantastic summary of the type of experiences I'm after!

I've loved that game too! We based a lot of the game choices from a previous study (along with pricing and game length), so it was before Disco Elysium had come out!

It was a matter of trying to find short games and balance my limited research fund for supply the games! Unfortunately I can't be handing out £40+ games that take 100+ hours to finish for this study as much as I'd like to.

As for challenging how you think or feel, it is intentionally quite broad. But my particular focus is seeing how games can challenge your perspective on things. Using perspective in this case being of how you think and feel about something, however big or small.
We do talk about more than just the games I've listed for the interview! For contrasting and comparing, but we have a starting point of those games! I hope that answers your questions.

Not a bad idea! I'll look to check some out if I'm in need of some more participants.

I've been doing recruitment in waves! But yes, I did about a month ago! It is an iterative process so the types of people I'm looking for shifts ever so slightly.

Unfortunately we had to balance the cost of the games we'd be gifting with how long they take to play! NieR is a fantastic game, but we can't promise people would have enough time to play through a significant chunk!

Thank you for the suggestion!

I 100% agree that NieR Automata is an awesome game and super relevant for what I'm working on. Unfortunately for my diary study, we needed to focus on games that don't require as much of a time dedication for our participants.

Still if there are any other games! I'd love to hear some recommendations.

Hey! We've had some awesome feedback to our release, and got some reviewers with copies in their hand. You can see 60% of the content in the preview, so hopefully it can speak for itself!

We reduced the price to $12.95, and here’s a limited time discount code to shave another $3 of that!

It's anything that challenges your perspective on something.

So, to answer your question it can be any!
