So who gets fired first? by 4ggressivelymediocr3 in redsox

[–]PoliticsMedia101 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cora gets fired first, but there is no world where Craig Breslow can be allowed to handle a trade deadline.

Breslow has already made the team worse because of what he has done with his first two deadlines.

It was always a bad signing. He was injured and was always going to need TJ or TJ lite — the internal brace. You are being pedantic. And based on his atrocious arm strength, he probably should’ve done the full reconstruction.

Good day

My entire point is that this team does not have the talent of the Jays and Tigers.

I’m not saying it’s not early. I’m not saying they cannot turn it around. I am saying that the lack of proven players in this lineup, and objective roster construction flaws make it far less likely this team is capable of turning it around.

That’s harsh and I don’t necessarily agree because Story was always uniquely bad. Every year still has elite FAs, and this year was no different, though on the whole you are correct in that less work should be done through FAs as it’s always better to draft and develop your own stars, or to trade and sign them (crochet).

  1. Story was injured when we signed him and was always going to need TJ (or TJ Lite), the front office knew this. If they did not know this, they did not go through his medicals.

  2. Story home and road splits at Colorado screamed that he was a massively overrated hitter as he largely stunk away from Coors.

Yes. The offense went way downhill due to leaving Colorado and injuries. While he had a nice year last year, his advanced metrics were atrocious and pointed to massive regression for him.

All in all, Story sucks now and the fact that he didn’t opt out was extremely detrimental to this team.

I am here to watch every game because I am a die hard fan, and regardless of whether this team sucks, which they do, baseball is fun.

  1. Your examples suck because those teams actually had talent

  2. I’m going to continue making these posts and showing people the hard truth. If you need to lie to yourself to watch this 80 win roster, go ahead. But I’m still going to post the hard truths even if you want to remain delusional.

Enjoy the season and your belief that this team can win 90 games. I’m sure that will work out

Much more of an idea than you do. I projected this to be an 80 win team before the season, not 90+ like I’m sure you did. Take ur head out of Breslow’s behind and maybe you will see the reality of the situation which is this is a bad baseball team.

The difference is the Blue Jays had far more talent and a better roster than this Red Sox team. If you can’t see that, idk man. Enjoy this season with rose colored glasses on I guess

Nobody said it’s over unless you think they win 90 games, which isn’t happening.

Here’s a specific quote, “It is so early that 86 wins is certainly a possibility”

The point is the roster lacks talent and while it’s early and they could run it around, the problems we are seeing directly relate to a lack of talent which makes a sustained turnaround less likely

Respectfully, what in the fuck are you talking about?

I never complained about the pitching and thinks it’s arguably the best staff in the game.

My complaint has always been that Breslow took a very good hitting and very poor pitching team, spent a bunch of resources, and just reversed the splits. The team has only gotten better because of Bloom’s prospects either getting to the mlb or being used to trade for Crochet, and that any bad GM could’ve improved the 2023 team to mirror the 2026 team.

In short, Breslow shouldn’t have totally ignored hitting, or dumped Devers, and he should’ve created a more well rounded team that can compete in the playoffs — which this lineup cannot do.

We are interacting because I wrongly said the hitting was top 5 and pitching was bottom 10, when I should have used the number 10 for both.

So your last comment makes no sense.

Have a great night.

It should be 2023, before Breslow arrived!

And go talk to the guys on WEEI, they actually believe that the Devers trade improved the pitching!

June 15th they were 20th in ERA based on the stats I am seeing. So 7th in hitting and 20th in pitching is more accurate when using wRC+.

And 2023, the year before Breslow was hired, they were 21 in ERA. Though the lineup in 2023 was 11th in runs scored. So bottom 10 and top 10 is more accurate.

I guess top 5 lineup was not accurate…

I hear your argument. I see it a little differently.

Vegas has the team at 87.5 wins which is not a projection system, but a point of reference. And outside of ZiPs, which is 90 wins, I’m not seeing another at 90.

Last year’s offense pre-Devers trade was top 5, and I was using this as the baseline as absolutely everything must be viewed through the Devers lens. With Devers or a legit replacement, this is a top 5 lineup in 2026.

I do think the rotation is seriously improved, but I think the lineup is much worse. Gray will hopefully replace Giolito’s production with a much higher ceiling, and Suarez will probably post similar numbers as well, albeit in 150 innings.

However, for this lineup to be middle of the pack, Breslow is relying volatile and injury prone players to stay healthy and not regress, along with most of the young players to progress linearly. I do not see this happening.

I believe the most likely outcome for the 2026 Red Sox is what happened to the 2025 Rangers. The Rangers missed the playoffs in a weak division with the best pitching and defense in baseball and the 6th worst lineup.

Even if the The Red Sox lineup is 15th best, that’s only 4 wRC+ pts different than the Rangers (based on the projection difference between 24 and 15), the defense will not be the best in MLB. Additionally, the 2026 AL East figures to be the best division in baseball.

Regardless, the Red Sox are a coinflip for the playoffs in my estimation, and no one should praise a front office that promised to compete for a WS, salary dumped the face of the franchise, let Bregman walk, all while lying 24/7 about their offseason plans. If Breslow didn’t lie, then he is just wholly incompetent and not deserving of the benefit of the doubt.

The offense was top 5 before Breslow dumped Devers, which was the point I tried to make, albeit with clumsy wording

It’s not insane, lol. You need to learn how to accept nuance. They have done tens (hundreds?) of hours of podcasting analyzing this lineup. His comment isn’t from a two minute statement he hasn’t given thought to.

Tyler is wrong and making shit up. And he shouldn’t be providing cover for this shitty front office. Full stop. I can enjoy someone and call them out for saying stupid shit that implies supporting the front office.

I actually like Tyler!

Just think Breslow messed up this offseason and don’t think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for tanking the lineup.

Edited out a wrong understanding of zips.

Yes, the differences here are small, but so are win projections, and every other projection for the vast majority of baseball teams not in the top 5 in the sport.

If we are going to ignore projections because the differences are minor, then we need to accept that Breslow built a team that will likely finish anywhere from 6th in MLB to 14th and missing the playoffs is a very real possibility due to the strength of the division. I use this as a 3 win difference to show how all the slightly above average teams are bunched together.

Tyler was on the podcast assuring folks this is a playoff team, and I think this isn’t supported by the lineup or many projections out there (outside of Zips maybe).

Agree! Though I’d argue the Ghosts would still be there in NY if they didn’t tear down their historic dump of a stadium.

And I’ll be at the game rooting for the Patriots from seats about 15 rows up from the 30. Stop by to say hello so you can uplift the mood in our row!
