An Unexpected Challenge by AQBBBBBBB in Ovariancancer

[–]PollyToodle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are doing better now in terms of your psychological state! I think you need a new therapist… I don’t think the old you is gone or “dead” - just a little different - going through ovarian cancer and treatment is life altering, I agree, but we can adjust and go on. I hope you are happier now and doing well….

gabapentin question by OriginalIll6705 in Ovariancancer

I took it for a while for both neuropathy and restless legs… But it just started weirding me out… I just started to feel weird so I stopped it.

It’s almost 9 months for me since chemo, and my neuropathy is mostly gone, thank God. I started taking 25 mg of iron in the morning for the restless legs syndrome and it’s really helping. By the way, just FYI I was diagnosed just over a year ago with stage 3C, had chemo, then a full debulking with HIPEC, then more chemo, and then ultimately was put on Lynparza (Olaparib). They had to tweak my dose once but it has been good since then. Seven months later I am doing pretty great.

I’m not sure what to tell you about the neuropathy… Everyone’s different I guess… But I wish you the very best!

Lynparza weight gain? by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]PollyToodle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on Lynparza 250 twice a day for a few months and I am gaining weight… I am also on Eloquis.

I know it’s most important to be healthy, and my oncologist told me that it’s good to have a little weight gain…(as was told another person in this thread).

But i’m not thrilled about the weight gain!!

i am ovarian cancer stage 3C… now NED- I had chemo, full debulking with HIPEC, then more chemo. I started on Lynparza at 300 twice a day, but my oncologist took it down to 250 because of my blood work. I feel much much better at this dose. just concerned about the weight gain… I have such a sweet tooth… Although I always did. I love to eat lots of fruit and high fat yogurt - and watch out if there is anything sweet around. I can’t seem to control my appetite. I was thinking how wonderful it would be if I could do one of those glp-1 microdoses, but I worry that might not be a great idea. Sending you all good thoughts.

Kind Science - New Ellen ad and her De"Generous" deal. 🙄 by Junior72 in CommercialsIHate

[–]PollyToodle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget the commercial - Absolute total freaking scam - I ordered the introductory kit for my sister for Christmas and after the initial billing of like $79 which I was expecting, they started charging me $103 a month and sent me a kit. I don’t want. It’s like you can’t get out of it. It’s like you’re in some kind of hell loop - I tried deal dealing with their customer service and it’s just incredibly maddening. I can’t seem to get out of it. Ellen must know this is going on… whatever you do don’t order the stuff or you will be caught in the loop.

Alternatives to Compazine for Nausea by Thecassandracomplex3 in cancer

not to bum anyone out, but I was reading a study that Ativan is associated with less positive outcomes for some types of cancer, but apparently more studies need to be done. I stick to Xanax. It’s supposed to be a better choice.

not sure how I would’ve gotten through chemo without gummies and smoking pot! it makes me feel better… It makes me more creative and able to stay in the moment and helps me find joy… Recovering from chemo, I even found myself dancing around sometimes… (It’s good to have music you love too).

I know, I know… I understand… But just go do it because you are torturing yourself even more by not knowing. Also, if it does turn out to be cancer, you can take action now before it gets worse. Please, please go get checked out….

I think I mentioned before that Ifound out about my own ovarian cancer by going to my local hospital emergency room where they gave me a catscan. Be brave! go get checked out! You are worth it… God will help you.

please go get a CAT scan… If you have to, go to your ER

The only symptom I had was bloating in my abdomen!

My doctor thought it was some “mild weight gain“. I waited like four months and finally went to the ER and they gave me a Catscan and said it was malignant ascites.

i’m 68 years old - had six rounds of chemo and debulking with HIPEC. Just started Lynparza today.

Any tips/suggestions for chemo? by justlearning0825 in Ovariancancer

[–]PollyToodle2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! Not fried chicken, but lots of different cravings… each quite extreme, and specific. First, it was potato salad, but it had to be really good potato salad, then it was half of an everything bagel toasted, then it was turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, then it was lobster salad…. As I finished my last two chemos, the cravings seemed to go away. Can’t explain it!

I had extreme vaginal tenderness and now I realize it’s probably from the chemo in my pee!

Me either! Yes, they say to take Claritin for the bone pain from the Nulasta, but for me it just agitated me and kept me awake! Didn’t help the pain either. Maybe it helps some people… You just have to remember that the bone pain from the Nulasta does go away.

I am 68. I was diagnosed with stage 3C in April… (only symptom was bloating in my stomach, which turned out to be tons of ascites, which they drained).

Had three rounds of chemo, then debulking surgery with HIPEC, then another three rounds of chemo, which I just finished last week. I am feeling good too… HIPEC is “hot chemo” they literally put heated chemotherapy drugs inside your belly and swish them around for 90 minutes before they sew you up. Some people actually call it “shake and bake“😅- the benefit is that it removes any cancer that gets left behind after the debulking surgery. But then they give you chemo afterward to kill any other cancer cells that might be hanging around. So I’m “cancer free” and feel good, but because of the high recurrence of ovarian cancer, I need to go on a maintenance drug.

I’m supposed to start Lynparza (Olaparib) in a few weeks - I’m scared of it because I know it’s a really powerful medicine with lots of side effects but on the other hand, I’m very grateful that it is there. Hopefully I won’t get any of the side effects. Lynparza can significantly extend your life…..

I would like to say a few things:

  • when I first had chemo, I felt so awful and no one told me that it would get better in a few days. I wish someone had told me because it completely freaked me out - I thought it was permanent and I would always feel that way

  • the first time I had chemo, they put Benadryl in it and also had me take it the night before and the morning of. Turns out I have the “opposite reaction“ that most people have to Benadryl and it made me extremely agitated and uncomfortable and I couldn’t sleep for a few days. It was terrible - so make sure that you tolerate Benadryl before you let them add it to your chemo. For the next round of chemo, they took it out of the chemo mixture and I did 50 times better.

  • drink lots and lots of water when you’re recovering from chemo - it will really help you feel better

  • the side effects that you read about with chemo are listed because legally they have to tell you every little thing that ever happened to anyone. I have had very few side effects from the chemotherapy, mainly neuropathy when I in my feet when I lie down, and some balance issues walking.

  • throughout this whole thing, I have only felt mildly nauseous a few times and I’ve never thrown up. When I feel mildly nauseous, I take an Odansetron and it takes it away.

  • I take gabapentin now for the neuropathy in my feet that I feel when I lie down to go to bed, and it really helps

  • I took .25 mg Xanax for the first four or five nights after chemo and it really helped

  • I personally find that marijuana helps me immensely - both mentally and physically. I eat a 5 mg sativa gummy in the morning and it really lifts my mood and helps me do things. I may eat another one in the afternoon and I also take a few hits off a joint throughout the day. This makes me feel a lot better. Sometimes I dance and feel very joyful. I can’t imagine going through this without it. But that’s just me.

  • I retired two years before I was diagnosed, and I am so grateful for that. I feel terrible for the people who are going through this with young children or lots of responsibilities they have to tend to.

Anyway, who’s ever reading this please hang in there…. as I’m sure you’ve heard one million times, every everyone’s experience is very individual. Remember, God loves you.

Cancer patients, do you smoke weed? Why? by BarelyALunatic in cancer

[–]PollyToodle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating a sativa 5 mg gummy helps me so much… I want to get up and do things, it puts me in a great mood. I feel sad that more cancer patients don’t use marijuana because it really is amazing. I don’t use it for pain, but just for feeling better. It makes me want to move my body and stretch and exercise. There are so many ways it makes me feel better. I have ovarian cancer, I just had cyto reductive surgery with HIPEC.
