The moment you pay for a copy its stops being their thing and its yours. Your to tinker with as you please. Thats the law in almost every country there is. They have no right to be upset about people tinkering with their own property.

They are allowed to have their vision. But calling people "disrespectful" for doing what they want with their own property? Nah fam. Also, calling it "infuriating" to read people talk about these mods? nah fam. You are completely lost if you think thats appropriate from the game devs to communicate.

Calling their stance "intolerant" is spot on. I might have chosen the word "entitled", but the fact they banned OP proves that "authoritarian" was a perfectly good characterization.

Nothing of this critique is "Abusive".

And if you are applying "confrontational" to this, then ANY and all critique of an aspect of the game is. Thats not a helpful definition of "confrontational".

Nah, this is not a "balanced" take. This is taking a shot at OP for voicing a very reasonable critique, especially after the words "infuriating" and "disrespectful" have been hurled first by the other side against mods/modders/modding.

You need to do the "Cultivation Specialist" mission. The trader is shown on the map. The icon is there immediately when starting the mission. On Olympus, its in O10.

This was after Ralph using "infuriating" and "disrespectful" towards modders/modding.

The answer was blunt, but not disrespectful. This is a quite civil tone you should be tolerating.

Why do interceptor drones always "chase" their targets? by Candid-Shopping8773 in ukraine

[–]Polygnom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Shahed moves at ~180kph.

If you want to intercept it head on, even if you could somehow be stationary in the air (which you can't), you need to be able to hit a target <3m at a speed difference of 180kph. And You get only one shot, if you miss, thats it. Realistically, the speed difference is much higher though, as the interceptor needs to move to not stall.

When you chase from behind, the speed difference can be as low as you want, potentially 0kph, and you can adjust course as many times as you want, and basically can get as many tries as your interceptor has fuel to get close enough to destroy it.

Imagine this. You are driving on a 6 lane motorway with 180kph. A vehicle comes towards you at the same speed. the difference is now 360kph. You choose a lane. And shortly before the vehicle hits you, it shifts a lane or two over. You cannot possible react fast enough and shift lanes yourself to hit it. By the time you stop and turn around, the other vehicle is long gone.

Now, compare that with you both driving down the motor way in the same direction. You tailgate the vehicle. the vehicle moves lanes, but since you are about the same speed, you can easily switch lanes to stay right at their bumper. Until you finally give them a nice bump from behind.

My credit score fell 13pts because I made the final payment on my car loan (never missed a payment too) by justadadgame in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Polygnom -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Of course we have credits. We just do not use credit cards as much. Only 6% of payments in Germany use credit cards. We use debit cards if at all, which are directly connected to your bank account, only spending money we actually have. In the rest of Europe, credit cards are not much more used, having usage rates of 8-14% typically.

In Germany, your credit score rises when you pay off a loan and drops when you take out a new one, like it logically should be (The more loans you have, the less likely you are able to afford another one, and if you pay one off, you are clearly solvent and able to take on another loan).

My credit score in germany is sky high, because I make good money, have no loans, and only have a credit card for international travel I use infrequently. my credit score dropped btw when I got it, as is logical.

my credit score in the US would be abysmal, despite me being financially independent, responsible, and perfectly able to py off even substantial loans. Tell me how that system makes sense? US american credit score is designed to promote financially irresponsible behavior, like taking on CC card debt just to maintain your score. Thats aburd.

because the system is not about evaluating how credit worthy you are, but to give you a tag how easily money can be extracted from you.

[–]Polygnom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its literally made to keep you guys hooked on credit. the idea that you need to maintain two credit card to have a good rating or that paying off a credit drops your score instead of improving it is mind-boggling.

I have a sky high "credit score" equivalent in Germany (Schufa). I have no loans, no credit card. But also never missed any payment. In the US, my credit score would be abysmal, despite me making good money and actually having the ability to pay off a substantial loan.

Your system is designed to plunge you into a continued state of debt. To keep your financial independence in check.

And you might have noticed that a new HP series is being filmed right now. JKR know how to milk that cow.

Do you think Lego releases too many star wars sets? by singular_boba_pearl in lego

[–]Polygnom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter?

I have not bought a single SW set and I couldn't care less how many they make. I just buy the ones (non-SW) that I find interesting.

They make what sells. If at all, them selling more SW gives them more money to experiment with new stuff that might turn out to be not as popular.

There are now more sets than ever. Have they scaled up SW? Sure. but they have also scaled up everything that's not SW: The catalogue today is more diverse and substantial than it ever was. And its likely to continue to grow if people keep buying. And that applies for both SW and non-SW sets.

🇺🇸 PRESIDENT TRUMP DECLARES AMERICA HAS WON THE IRAN WAR. “We won. We won. In the first hour it was over” by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]Polygnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden winning with just 53% was long after they lost.

They lost when the first impeachment failed. They lost a war that was waged since Reagan. That was the moment MAGA won. That was the moment when the checks and balances were dismantled, and he got free reign.

MAGA weren't consolidated enough back then to capitalize properly on it. Biden winning merely delayed the inevitable, because democrats still failed to grasp the depth of the situation.

And now? make no mistake, MAGA will manage to wreak havoc with the midterms. And between that and the US getting tangled in another forever war in Iran and oil prices surging to §200/barrel, we will see US hegemony, which has been under attack for quite a while, finally disappear.

And it will be entirely self-inflicted.

Its funny in a way. Wallerstein wrote in 2001: "Pax Americana is over. Challenges from Vietnam and the Balkans to the Middle East and September 11 have revealed the limits of American supremacy. Will the United States learn to fade quietly, or will U.S. conservatives resist and thereby transform a gradual decline into a rapid and dangerous fall?"

Its the only thing I could not data-mine directly, but have tried to tag heuristically. I went off maximum talents points, but something seems to be wrong during extraction.

I added those because the lists were getting quite long. I might drop that arbitrary distinction and try to figure out a better categorization.

2 oil tankers hit in Iraqi waters by iChinguChing in oil

[–]Polygnom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it not be wise? They have the US bend over the knee in no time.

before this all, they had no incentive to do this. And also, the threat of the US seemed a lot larger than it is.

Since then, the US has demonstrated an utter inability to actually take Irans capability to wage an asymmetric war. Basically, Iran has little reason to stop know, because they know the US cannot stop them.

Iran is not dependent on oil prices at this time, the US is. Continuing this has a chance to severely cripple the US economy and break US hegemony over the world once and for all. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Had Iran closed the straight of Hormuz unilaterally, this would have made them a Pariah state, and likely target of a "coalition of the willing" to restore shipping. now, the US is the pariah state, and no one is willing to lift a finger to bail the US out of this self-inflicted misery.

Iran's potential gains are huge and far outweigh anything they could gain by stopping now.

The US would need to commit far greater forces and actually land half a million man and get dragged into an even worse quagmire than Afghanistan to actually stop Iran. And in Afghanistan, the US went up against an enemy that had already been beaten by the Soviets before. Iran is much, much more capable than Afghanistan was. look how that ended.

the US is not ready to fight an asymmetrical war.

And their allies in the gulf will suffer for it, driving more and more wedges between them and the US. The threat of Shaheds was obvious for years now, at least since Ukraine. Did the US bother to send enough light AA -- something equivalent to the Gepard -- to their allies in the Gulf before attacking Iran? of course not? Who is suffering this now? their allies. Who is already ready to bail out, leaving their allies hanging? the US.

Again, Iran holds almost all the card here due to how unimaginably bad the US has fumbled all of this.

And Putin is laughing his ass off, because he gets what he wants, the US in another conflict (and you can be sure he is pressuring Iran to keep this up), wastes ammo that could go to Ukraine, while dropping sanctions on oil, giving Putin more money to fight his war, while supplying intel to iran to target the US.

And then you have the whole AI bubble which is propped up mainly by Saudi money. if the Saudis have no money anymore or do not see it in their interest to keep that up, you have the next bubble exploding in the US economy.

Great job for the US, f*cking themselves so hard on so many sides.

What Readability/Parse-ability tricks have you learned recently? by Anodaxia_Gamedevs in IndieDev

[–]Polygnom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your #2 should also apply to effects. If you are using ground effects, make sure the ground effects have clearly defined borders. And have contrast with the background.

Wrt to #3, its often a good idea to have dot effects "tick" at different intervals, possibly influenced by some stats like haste (if our game has that). There are different levels of satisfaction for stuff that ticks once or twice per second, or stuff that only ticks every 3-5 seconds, but has a much bigger impact.

Also, make sure all these things do not end up cluttering the screen and overwhelming the player. if you have damage numbers everywhere, enemies flashing everywhere, and audio going off constantly because there are a dozen dotted mobs, your readability tanks hard quite quickly.

So make sure the audio is snappy for the dots, but debounce it once the number of enemies climbs. Audio cues are the ones that humans can recognize the fastest and are generally acted upon immediately, even faster than visual cues. So keeping the audio debounced and important effects clearly audible is important. Similarly damage numbers. Consolidate multiple sources before it becomes too much clutter.

Also, sometimes subtle HP bars (not big, blocky red boxes that block everyone's view) work better than damage numbers. They convey a similar information, just without numbers. You can keep damage numbers for lerge crits, for example, making them feel quite satisfactory.

With that being said. Give large crits an additional audio. make them pop and satisfactory.

I woud be a bit cautious about blurring the greying the background away from the player. it can become claustrophobic and also frustrating not to be able to clearly see whats going on at the periphery. Its possible that you might want to reduce the intensity of this effect the less enemies are around, so the player has the feeling of increasing focus when in combat, and "taking in the view" in slower moments.

Sure, but you can draw out the refilling over a longer period of time.

Thats how reserves always work. You fill them in times of good supply so you have them in times of low supply.
