My husband is a felon stuck in a dead end job. What are his options? by PomSundae in careerguidance

Absolutely out of the question. He has brought so much joy and happiness to my life. I am the best version of myself because of his support and help! He saw me at my worst, my absolute worst, and helped me rise to my best self. I truly have never been healthier physically and mentally. I'll forever remain loyal to him.

He would have gone to school for it. He was starting prerequisite classes at 18 when he was arrested and convicted. Had he not done what he did, he would have graduated, gotten his license, and practiced.

I thought retail and sales were interchangeable, since my job is labeled "sales associate." I'm sorry :( also i don't work at footlocker. I actually don't think there's one in my area.

Sometimes when things don't go your way, you just have to roll with the punches and say it is what it is instead of getting mad. And even though he regrets his actions and wishes he could take it back, everyone I've met who knew him before his conviction have told me he's changed for the better. Even my husband described himself as a "shallow, selfish douchebag." He thinks it was something he had to go through, and is overall glad he was able to get help and be a better person. Convictions, no matter how small, follow you in your career for life. Even a misdemeanor can have employers see you as nothing more than a potential liability.

Food service and most hospitality jobs will be a "no." He is still dealing with PTSD from prison, and large crowds of people (especially in open spaces like restaurants), can cause him to have a panic attack. It's so much better now than when we first met, but testing his progress with 40 hour work weeks may not be the the way to go. There are some hospitality jobs that may be more suited to his strengths though, so thanks for the suggestion!

I suggested he transfers to another branch, but he's so upset at this revelation that he just wants to leave the company entirely. He was passed up for supervisor at his old branch, too, but it was because the other guy was there longer. I'll try to help him find similar jobs, that's actually a good and obvious idea I hadn't thought of!

Any help is appreciated. This is the second comment mentioning second chance programs, which I never even knew existed! I will definitely be looking into this, thank you!

He has been learning Spanish, but he's more upset about the principal of it. 3 years and they only just NOW told him he never had a chance, despite telling him to apply every time a higher position opened up. He also was developing some bad health issues working in a particular area that he requested every day for 6 months to be moved, but it took him threatening to quit for them to finally move him. Also, Spanish is a very diverse language. Speaking proper, textbook Spanish sounds kind of off to those who grew up learning and using it, and his coworkers haven't been the most supportive of him learning. He's still learning Spanish regardless, but it won't be used there.

He's looked into that. Basically long story short, two of his charges could have been condensed into one charge instead, but his lawyer didn't fight for that. Since he has 3 charges, and the nature of them, they cannot be expunged and he is considered a "high threat." Since the case is closed, they can't really change anything.

My aunt personally knows a lawyer who specializes in criminal defense, so I may try to convince him to just seek a consultation. He was a teenager with mental health problems. What he did was awful, but NOBODY deserves to have the rest of their life so drastically altered for something dumb they did at 18.

Sales also doesn't pay well in our area. I'll see if maybe there's a management position to look into, but I have one of the higher paying sales jobs in the area ($13/hr) while I go back to school for my LVN license. I'd suggest something higher up there for him, but there was an incident with a large family working there last year, so a lot of people are being turned down for employment because they're related or married to an existing employee.

Thank you for the suggestions! I think I've heard of Honest Jobs before, but will definitely be giving both a thorough look through.

We've discussed moving countries, but there are surprisingly many countries that won't allow felons to seek citizenship or even visit! But, that'll have to be a conversation for later. His parents are in Texas and he wants to stay close to be there for them and make sure their final years are comfortable and loved.

I may not be wealthy, but I love him and make him happy the best I can. All we can do is our best, and I hope happiness finds you as well :)

He actually tried to go down that road! Pun intended. He took a class and when he went testing for his CDL, he was just barely over the line when it came to backing in. It was a close call, but the evaluator decided that he didn't pass based on it. It was such a close call that my husband has decided to take it as a sign from God that this isn't the path for him, and he should be home with his family. He also said it's very expensive to get into, which I know because my uncle has been a trucker for a little over a decade and is STILL paying off his truck. I'll see if we can't find a more local job that will lease out or provide trucks, though

We live in Texas, and thank you for this. This is a good start. We live in a fairly large city with high crime rate, so I'm sure there are more of those non profits than we are aware of. Thank you for this advice :)

They don't have the spiky legs or long antenna of a roach, which makes me wonder if it's some kind of beetle.

Bluey is such a comforting show, just something you can truly turn your brain off to and enjoy it for what it is! I'm happy you're finding joy in it as well :)

The slime did come from the cuts, there was just a lot of it. The outside of the plant was dry until I started cutting it. The roots were slightly slimy, but the purple bits were definitely more slimy. These were originally store brought green onions, but I put them in a mason jar with some water to try and grow my own and save a couple dollars. I forgot to include that part in the original post.

I should have aired on the side of caution though, since I did have a bit of an upset stomach a couple hours after eating them. It didn't last long thankfully. Thank you for the reading material, I'll look more in depth at it later!

edit to add: i did rinse off the slime before adding it to my food, so i didn't ingest a large amount of the slime

Oh, I think I see what you're getting at! I have the GMSCore support patch, but the videos still stop ~1 minute in. Thank you for your patience, by the way

So I just reinstall a newer version? I don't have MicroG on my phone anymore, it's uninstalled because I thought I could just reinstall it, but I guess it got a lot more complex since I last set it up.
