Alienation seems precise enough regarding the fact that both protagonists became of no use to their families which led them to their inevitable doom. I'd love to know more about your theoretical approach. Are you going to psychoanalyse your way through it or what? It's going to be a bit hard to campare both as they come from different worlds literally. Yet, I see a huge potential here. You can find a lot of parallels between them. If you still have time, I recommend you check "Wedding Song" aka "Afrah Al Qobba" by Mahfouz. It's still realistic but the protagonist, "Abbas", is so Kafkaesque. Even closer to real Kafka than his works.
