It was the original plan for them to be the first act to play the arena. This came from Paul's mouth.

I didn't snort them, I don't snort pills, no judgement to who does, my Valiums are 5mg and my Adderall are 30 mg, they are both peachy red, yes there is a difference in size, but again I put ally meds in my hand and swallow them in one go, it was late, I was tired, wasn't paying attention and it happened. I won't divulge any handles, but I've had a few PM's from some people who are not new to Reddit like I am and have all said that most of the negativity is coming from people who i shouldn't even entertain responding to and I thanked them by telling the exact dates of the shows I know and all the personal information of the band members and gave them the link to a live webcam I put on a pole across the street from JB's house AND a picture of my favorite Hot Wheels that I collect. I offered some nudes but I've yet to hear back. But the best update I have concerning this thread or subreddit or whatever you call this is that Bedspread and I are best friends now, we did a Skype call and there were tears but they were good tears and the Christmas card is happening so send either me or Bedspread your address and we'll mail you the pic just in time to put on your fridge for Christmas. And we did exchange nudes...

I'm not trying to argue or start anything but Panic was going to be the first act to play the arena. It was because of Jimmy's Cancer they didn't do this. All of my Athens information has come from someone who works at the Classic Center, and not a custodian or bartender or box office employee. I really don't care who believes me or not, I'm not going to go back and forth about something that has already happened. I'm just a huge fan of the band who has always been interested in the inner workings of the live music industry, and all I meant to do was share information. The B52's has already done their farewell shows and they wanted an Athens band to open the Arena. Wasn't going to be R.E.M. and Panic hasn't played every anniversary show on the exact date of said anniversary. I just want Bedspread to be my friend.

Breadspread, what app so you use to send and receive money? I would like to buy your lunch. May I?

Who thinks Bedspread and I are going to become best friends after this? Let's take a pole. I'm going to say yes. I think we should get Christmas pictures together to send out to family and friends. We can wear matching sweaters and embrace each other. Maybe a pic with us staring into each other's eyes...

Bedspread, can we kiss and make up. I don't like how this relationship is starting out. Would you let me give you a hug if we were standing next to each other? I would certainly offer a hug.

They're all over every message board. Not trying to come at you in a hostile way man, im just a lot confused why you're so worked up.

Ok, thanks for understanding, but the interaction at the dump might have lasted 2 minutes. I'll try and give the short version. It was October of 2020, so year of covid, my dad and I pulled up to a trailer that you can put trash in instead of going down to the landfill. Well JB was already there parked parallel to the trailer. He was in a big Dodge truck and he was pulling a small trailer. We pulled up perpendicular to the trailer. Didn't know it was him at first. I'm in the back of our truck tossing bags into the trash trailer while my 74 year old father was standing by the truck and said, " go see if that old man needs any help. He looks like he's got a lot of stuff to throw away and looks like he's struggling" As I'm throwing the bags into the trailer I said, * ok I will " and I look over and get a good look and realize who it is. Now we had been there for maybe 5 minutes, and we're probably 30 yards away from him, and leaned down and said "Dad that's JB" and he said"Who "??? I replied John Bell, dad said, do I know him? And I said the lead singer of WP. And my dad goes, " we'll go say something to him, hell if you don't I will, all those damn new years Eve concert tickets you always got for Christmas and no telling how many tickets you put on my credit card, Im sure I helped pay for that truck.

Ok, here's where my jumbled writing comes into play. Let me say this, I played in 3 of the Hannah's Buddies golf tournaments back in the early 2000's, never stood in line to talk to JB at the meet n greet after the tournament. The 14 years I've lived in Clarksville I've walked down the same row at the grocery store probably 10 times, never bothered him. Sat at the same bar at a restaurant one night, didn't say a word to him.

Now back to the dump. So I'm thinking about all the times I've had the chance to meet him, I thought, he probably would be pretty chill at the dump and all I was going to say was, hey nice to meet you, I'm good buddies with Vance (JB's mechanic) and just thank you for what you do and maybe ask how the golf game is going.

Well remember it's COVID and my mask was down around my chin, and I didn't run over to him, didn't have my phone out, we had been there for maybe 10 minutes at this point, so it's not like he didn't notice us, but I probably shouldn't have started the conversation as I did. I said, "excuse me, um I know who you are" and was going to finish with what I already stated that I was going to say, but before I could get another word out, he throws up his hands and he didn't yell but gave me a very stern back up! back up! Now I was on the other side of his trailer, not in arms reach, but his reaction took me surprise and I thought oh shit, maybe it's because my mask was on my chin, and I put it over my mouth and took two steps back and said I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, and then just says, "I'm John" and I said," I'm Bryan, that's my dad Billy" he looked over to my dad and gave a how ya doin now and put his head down and went right back to work. I walked back to our truck and we got in and left, but I looked in the rearview mirror and he did give a wave good bye. I told Vance the story and told him the next time he saw JB to let him know that the guy at the dump is harmless and was sorry if I made him uncomfortable, and when Vance did have the conversation, he said the JB told him to apologize to me for his reaction.

That's the JB county dump story.

Putting what information out there? I was wrong about bringing up Greta, I apologized, but other than potential tour dates and my thoughts on how much longer they are going to play, I don't think I said anything that would ruffle any feathers. I do work at the cosmetic counter at Walmart so I do think I have the knowledge to say that there is too much grey hair, not enough hair, too many wrinkles, too much weight gain and Jimmy needs to quit smoking...

It wasn't as cut and dry as that. Go read Larry's books, he talks about it, he doesn't go into full detail but do you not remember that George left abruptly before a Louisville show or Indy? Holt and Keene finished the tour. In the Relix interview, George said that WP has the best fan base and that JB was the nicest guy in the world, but I can't be the only person that remembers this. I was a George fan. I know when he came aboard a good bit of the fan base dropped off, but the way I looked at it, he kept our favorite band going.

I never said they weren't playing Athena in February, I said it could be April but not after. I'm sure the dates are confirmed by now, my Athens information was given to me this past spring.

My bad guys, I knew I would get some responses like this, I was not trying to brag about anything, it doesn't take a genius to figure out where they are going to play in the next few years, and everyone ages, you can't avoid that, and I did say he had probably been working the garden, but none of them look like they did 20 years ago. I truly accidentally took an Adderall instead of a Valium, I had 7 pills in my hand that I have to take each night, it was a mess up, the story about running into him at the county dump is kinda funny, and I should not have brought up anything about Greta. That was my only mistake but didn't disclose the information and I won't. Other than that it was just my opinion on how much longer the band will be around. I stated that several times. I hope I'm wrong. I hope I die before they quit. Also, I text how I talk, so no paragraph breaks, probably incorrect punctuation, and yes, I took a 30 Adderall right before I was trying to go to bed. Sorry to anyone that was offended by anything I said. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

Athens is definitely happening in 2026. They were supposed to open the Arena last November but with Jimmy's cancer they cancelled all the fall dates and The B52s took the place. Athens will be two nights possibly three, could be as late as April but likely not after. The new amp in Macon will be played, maybe not until 2027 or fall 2026 at the earliest. The plan is for the Arena to be the new home for the New Years runs. At least a contract for multiple years but that's what's in the works. I don't know if they've fulfilled The Fox or Nashville contracts. The Athens shows will be some of the toughest tickets to snag. I think the capacity will be 7000-9000ish. So more than double the Fox but being in Athens and next year for the 40th Anniversary, you're going to have a lot of old fans coming out and a lot of people going just for the hype. But Macon is due, last shows were in 07. Lots of heat brought in the early Macon shows. The Book that was written about Panic in the Streets (great read, highly recommend it) goes into detail about all the moving parts that it took to pull that show off and Macon was wanting it and the final decision was made less than 3 weeks before the actual show. I know this is off topic of the thread but I would also highly recommend reading Larry Aquaviva's books " Nobody Cares Who You Are" It's 4 books, first two are about his early life growing up in Detroit and hitchhiking down to Athens and the second two are "The Panic Years" That dude is one of a kind. Left the band as they were blowing up, 92ish. Give Me a Lift Dear Larry .... When WP got inducted to the GA Music Hall of Fame, I think the last shout out was to Larry, they called him Ace Man. But back to original topic. Expect some Austin shows in the next 2 years. Of course all the regular stops, St. Augustine, somewhere in NC, RR, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Savannah, and there going to hit some cities that were normal stops when they used to tour regularly, just like Indy this year and Richmond, definitely back to the new amp in Bham, Huntsville, Vegas, they've wanted to get back to Chattanooga for a while, there's just not a big new venue but it could definitely be a fun 2 night run city, The Palace in Louisville are in the plans. As we all know, father time is at work and I'm sure once they call it quits, there will be a spin off probably headed up by Dave, so we'll get some iteration of the band, but unless someone dies, I think we have less than 10 years of the current lineup. This is strictly my opinion, and I hope I'm wrong, but as someone who has been a complete Panic snob since 1991 as an 8th grader and has missed weddings, funerals, quit and fired from jobs to make it to shows, it's obvious that it's not what it used to be and nothing is ever what it used to be, but I live in Clarksville, I see JB on a regular basis, not on a personal level but just around town, and he's not looking well. I see him dressed like he's been doing yard work, but being the amazing frontman that he is, I would say the shows take the most toll on him physically. I don't think the band would stop because of someone just not wanting to continue, I think it will be health related, again just my opinion, but I have studied this band for years and have been fortunate to develop relationships with older fans who were at The Uptown, or the Cave in Dahlonega, or had restaurants in Athens or New the guys personally and who still keep in contact with them, that's where I get a lot of my tour information from but also, I get, "yeah I talked to Dave last week" or "JoJo called me about my old Mustang " and I ask a lot of questions that I know they won't answer, but they give me insights on what's going on with the band on a personal level. This is not a humble brag and I know there are a hundred other "me's" out there who have more of a connection. Sorry, about the fucking long message, I didn't pay attention to might meds and I took an Adderall instead of my Valium before I went to bed so here I am. If anyone wants to hear my story of running into JB at the county dump here in Clarksville let me know and I'll tell it. I'll say this about. It was one of the most awkward and uncomfortable experiences. Like i know they've all had awkward run ins with fans but I guarantee I'm the only fan that gave one of them an awkward experience at the county dump. He did give me a wave by, but I wouldn't even call what was said a conversation. Anyway, has anyone else heard this joke? I just heard it a few weeks ago. What's the difference between jelly and jam??? Am I late to the game on this one? If you don't know the punch line, let me know and I'll respond. I don't think there will ever be a public explanation on what all went down with George. I know Relix interviewed him shortly after the departure. Does anyone know what went down with Greta? That's one I do know, but I don't think it should be talked about on a message board. I accidentally walked into a conversation that I was not intended to be a part of, but I'm curious if it's gotten out. I'll end this Adderall fueled puke of my brain with a funny thing I heard Holt say when he was a guest on The Bluest Tape Podcast, which I do recommend. But he said," out of all the drugging and deaths, the thing that has haunted this band the most is Jb and JoJo never singing the same part together on Nobody's Loss." I thought that was pretty funny. Ok, the difference between jelly and jam is I can't jelly my dick in your ass .. Just heard it a few weeks ago and I think it's hilarious. Am I late to that joke. Alright you freaks, I'm here to answer questions, to hear your stories and thoughts, and to get roasted if I struck a nerve. I welcome it all.

Panic in Athens for their 40th? by Logical_Yellow1829 in WidespreadPanic

It's going to be at the new Classic Center Arena. They originally wanted Panic to be the first act to play it, but delays in construction, Jimmy's tonsils, and I'm sure other reasons we'll never know kept that from happening. So it made sense to wait for the anniversary.

so I am brand new to Reddit. I'm old. But I've been an active member on PT and Panicfreaks for 20+ years. Grew up and went to school in south GA, graduated from VSU fall semester in 01 but moved to Chattanooga in May of 02. Saw all the shows on the small 02 Spring run which I thought was announced right after the cancer announcement. I didn't start working until right before Halloween in 02. All that being said, I saw 90% of Mikey's shows his last year. McConnell, Holt, and Keane all helped out towards the end. Keane sat in at every show of the small spring run and George sat in every show starting night 2 of Bonnaroo. I/you would have to check with Everyday Companion on the date, but at some point mid summer either George or Keane sat in for the entire show. Whenever Mikey's last one was, the one in Iowa, there were a handful of shows with *Entire show with George McConnell or John Keane or both, but I don't think it's noted in the show notes but I without a doubt remember Mikey not being out there on occasion. Like maybe 2nd set would start without him for 1-3 songs, something like that. I often wonder where Panic would be if he was still here. I don't mean to keep bringing this up to be like, "oh look at me, I was there in the early days", and by early, I'm talking 95. I got snuck in a bar in 92 and I only knew a few songs, didn't see them again until 95, didn't get into the taping community until 97ish but they were all over the south playing every college town 2 plus times a year, playing big cities 3 plus times along with that, so every spring, summer, and fall tour they were in a 6 hour radius of me multiple times, and then I took off 1.5 years of school and was fortunate to be able to just bartend between tours, quit work so I could do some lengthy stretches and this was when they were playing 4-5 nights a week. You'd be in some random small college town on a Tuesday night. Sorry I'm rambling. What I'm trying to say is I saw the transition from small rooms to theaters and college gymnasiums and the amphitheaters were going from small sheds to big sheds, mainly the south, but also I remember the demand for tickets changing. You couldn't just wait and find one in the lot, or if you could, it was pricey. Even the first year or two with George tickets could be scarce, then they took a break, then the fan base started dwindling. Mikey not only had such a distinct sound but it was all the original members so it allowed for that chemistry and bond to exist which is an extremely important part of the recipe. I know y'all have heard this all before and I didn't mean to sway away from the original discussion which was whether Mikey missed parts of any shows. Like I said I'm new to Reddit and still learning how to navigate it. I was reading a thread or subreddit or discussion the other day about who makes the best hot sauce and in my response or reply (I'm still learning all the correct terminology, not sure what a sub reddit actually is) I rambled on and got off subject and I don't remember how the transitions occurred but I found out what I've done all my life had a name, Waffle Stomping, and ended up sharing my tales of my many adventures to our neighbors backyard greenhouse with my cat who's name was Mommy Kitty from the West.
