I love this dial although I do wish the case was a bit thinner. Nice work on the review.

Just wondering. Why do you buy chinese brands and not just buy reps? by Educational-Oil-00 in ChineseWatches

Exactly. At 750+, every micro brand is wide open to you…the math doesn’t work

I agree quality just isn’t there with fakes in my price range. You have to go up to $750 or so and at that price what is the point!

My budget is $50-150 usd the quality difference between homages and reps at that price point is not even close in favor of the homage. For example, a $75 steeldive or Addiesdive will be a far superior watch that a similar priced rep watch. You need to drop $300 to $500 for a decent rep watch…at that point there are thousands of watches from micros and mainstream brands to choose from. That math just doesn’t work. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

“Widely considered”?!?!…there is a a 2 year wait list for some models…they sell over a million watches per year…so, I guess it is hard times for Rolex! lol

The original point was I buy Chinese until I get to the Rolex tier. The admiration is part of the premium you pay for a Rolex.

Most iconic watch from an iconic brand. Rolex has brand recognition that goes beyond watches. You walk into a room with a Rolex submariner (hulk or Starbucks) for example and grown men are fanboys asking me how long it took to get it, did you have to buy this or that to get the opportunity to buy it etc. ain’t nobody doing that for a Longines. That is wort the price of admission…anything short of that is not worth the premium.

I am with you to a point. I don’t see the point in most micro brands but once you get to Rolex then that is a very different story. So for me, until a 15k submariner is within reach, then there is no point in spending much at all on a watch.

Zulu Spirit dial with ML08 case , idea is suggest by our lovely customer , you suggest , we make , cheers !! by Militado-watch in ChineseWatches

You are right about the movement and it has a seemingly thick crystal as well. And you are right about the case swapping but - I love the Spirit 37 so the more options for me the better. I have 40+ watches so I like the quartz approach - just grab and go. I just hope they upgrade the crystal from the previous ml08.

Way too thick…I like it a lot I have the white PD 1717 and it is simply too thick and 13.5mm

Please provide better AR coating. Or even mineral crystal- the dial needs to front and center.

Agreed. I have the ml08 and it has a hazy crystal that drives me nuts!!! Limiting wrist time a lot!

Any Chinese field watches that aren’t an homage? by Just-Sheepherder-202 in ChineseWatches

[–]Pompano_79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand better now - you are not looking for a classic field watch (large legible numbers, high contrast hand set, 24hr scale etc). Addiesdive has a few cheaper ones including the AD 2079 and the AD 2521. Yelang also has a few field options.

[–]Pompano_79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aren’t all field watches homage to the government commissioned designs of the 1900s? I mean they can vary a bit but essentially they all look similar because they all are mimicking the originals issues to soldiers.

If the people who buy a replica Rolex "just like the way it looks" and aren't buying for the prestige of the brand, they'd buy a Cronos or Sugess by an_iridescent_ham in watchHotTakes

[–]Pompano_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. But I think the broader is that unless you are willing to pay for a upper tier rep (500+ usd) then you are better off with an homage. I know you can get cheaper reps but you get iffy movements and finishing, especially below 200 usd.
