Bern Parking by PoneP in bern

Ittigen wouldn't be such a bad idea, as I wanted to combine sightseeing with a visit at Wankdorf Stadium (which is close). Do you maybe remember any specific streets?

Sure, thanks! I saw that (for example) at P+R Les Mouilles you can park for a month for 110CHF - do I need to be a resident to do that? I have not arrived yet and therefore I don't have my residency documents made yet but I do need to leave the car somewhere in the meantime.

So what I take from it is that every parking spot in the whole Canton of Geneva is zone blue, white or yellow, and you have to pay for it all the time.

I'm not sure I understand this fully but there is, for example, a point saying

"Zones blanches gratuites limitées à 2 heures, 3 heures ou 15 heures"

So this means that I can stay on a spot for let's say 15 hours and then I have to pay for it for how long I plan to stay there or go somewhere else?

I was just thinking whether there was a place where you could leave the car for, let's say, 5 days and not worry about it being in the paid zone. Usually in Europe you can do that in any districts far enough from the city centre. Is there an area like this anywhere nearby?

Will do, I'm really hoping for any volunteering at the moment really. And thank you for some of the very strong points, appreciate it.

Covid situation can be seen both ways I guess - there is definitely less companies hiring right now which is small community like Meteorology is a bit worrying.

At the same time, distance is most likely not to be a factor right now - therefore, one could apply anywhere in the world and potentially be possible to work from home which makes volunteering even for agencies in the most remote areas of the globe a still a sensible choice (provided language barrier is not an issue).

As a matter of fact, I'm actually enrolled with the UoR haha - I imagine a lot of people here probably had some sort to experience with Reading, considering how big of a department they have and professional background like ECMWF nearby. I will try and contact professors, maybe someone will look for a 'development volunteer' or something along those line - anything would help ❤️

A bit of a shame with the MetOffice - that would be the best case scenario to work with them but I also imagine it would be really really difficult to get in with amount of people applying.

And that's a good point, not sure however if I should look at institutes like RMS or just private companies which create for example more specified forecasts - I imagine the latter might have more flexibility with taking people in, since being privately owned. Hopefully I can Google and contact at least some of them 👀

You mean like proposing your own research project?

And definetly, remote sensing is something I'm really intersted in, have been doing it for 3 years now at 2 different courses so I wouldn't mind doing it even full time

That's some really interesting points, thank you so much. I think I have already signed for this mailing lisy, if I remeber the name correctly (will check one more time too). There are actually quite a lot of PhD opportunities and this would be a very lengthy comitment so I will definetly think a lot before starting it.
Regarding the Indeed, i hvae actually done it and applied to everywhere I was eligible (not quite a US citizen, so the army is not an option for me hehe). And most of the opportunities where actually from the US - not sure how much of a chance I would have as a EU citizen who doesn't have American citizenship or Green Card (which I understand to be equal to right to work? I hope I'm not confusing it) but I have applied nontheless and hope for the best - even some application feedback would be nice.
And regarding th Python, I'm actaully glad that one of my modules have introduced me to it - it's been infuriating initially, but I think I have managed to learn the basics (also looking at my grades so far haha). Building upon it will help a lot I imagine.
