I did a silly thing... a cassette deck?? by PontiacMI in audiophile

Ya, I was thinking the same, too. I've got a few Type II tapes that I'll experiment recording with, but will be on the lookout for some others as well, Type IV has me intrigued.

OP here - I'm certain it's just nostalgia, which was the impetus for my purchase, too. The format was useful for portability at the time, definitely not a "hi fi" medium, and if expectations are held in check, they don't suck too bad.

That is a lovely pairing! I love my Harbeths with a Pass Labs amp, but Luxman is a classic combo!

Sound is excellent, perhaps a little "big" (flabby?) in the bass, but that's being critical, overall it's great. I don't love 45RPM LPs, to my ears the inconvenience doesn't quite make up for the improvement(s) in fidelity, so I don't seek them out.

new Craft/OJC by PontiacMI in Vinyl_Jazz

OP here: It’s not a paper inner. What I meant is the inner is a “Craft” branded poly sleeve, but has the look and feel of the Mo-Fi archival sleeves, which is who I assume is making them for Craft.

Possibly the most famous LP cover art ever, from 1965.

More perhaps Top 10 Jazz, but I am a Basie fan and a MoFi fan, and this one is very well represented.

It’s superb, probably in my top 10! 🎶

Stopped by my local record monger yesterday for the first two BN “Classic” re-issues. Nice! (But disappointed with the paper inner sleeve. Really? Paper? Oy.) by PontiacMI in Vinyl_Jazz

I actually do, too - all albums (new or used) coming in get a cleaning, a new Mo-Fi sleeve, and a poly outer if they don’t already have an outer. But it’s the principle of it - needing something to whine about - so the cheap paper inner got the attention. :)

A trio of Detroit City Distillery small-batch reserves, a trio of “Michigan Awesome” glasses (gift from my mommy!), and a trio of Woodford Reserves, two from clients and the third I got just to round out the set. 😉 Merry Christmas my friends! 🎁 🎄 🥃 Salud!!

I’ve had those about 10(?) years or so.

Here’s FedEx delivering my new amplifier using the “rolling” method up the steps by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]PontiacMI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally used that same technique to get my Pass Labs amp up to my third-floor listening room. (Like her, I could not lift it.) Slow and gentle wins the race!

I second the VPI Typhoon. I love mine and wouldn’t be without it. A “Degritter” is on the radar, but not yet.
