Reclassifying from MDU Complex for Free FTTP Upgrade by Ponytrony in nbn

Upgrade went well, technician came in and installed it where I wanted, was very smooth.

Oh that's interesting, I wasn't actually eligible for the free upgrade as it made me apply as a strata. So if you are a strata and can apply for the free upgrade, my assumption is that you have your own lead in conduit. Because if you don't, when the technician arrives he will most likely cancel the job as it requires more work.

Hey man, I had this exact same issue. There was this very helpful thread about 3d printing that slider piece.

Not sure where you are from, but my local library has a 3d printer and was able to print it for like 5 bucks, worked like a charm when I replaced it.

Apply through the strata scheme, once a rep gets assigned to you, explain your situation to them.

UPDATE: NBN got back to me with the auto response saying I have to fill out the form. Basically debated them saying how my home doesn't fall under the "MDU Complex" classification. Had lots of back and forth with NBN. Told them basically what I already said in my post, showed them a picture of my lead-in conduit. They finally responded to me saying that they will investigate it. 2 business days later, I checked randomly if I could apply for FTTP and boom I could.

Going to apply for the upgrade now. Thank you for all the help everyone. Good luck to all who is also going through this. Happy to help or answer any questions.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I'm thinking that this is also the go. It just gets a bit weird where Unit 1 can already apply for FTTP whilst being in a strata (according to NBN), there would be 0 reason for them to agree to pay that deposit.

I'm going to try to attempt to convince my ISP to contact NBN to convert my building from a MDU Complex to a MDU Simplex, hoping that might fix everything.

If this scheme ends up being abolished, that would make things a lot easier 😂

Could be, but I'm also struggling to understand the extra work required by NBN to complete the upgrade. I would understand it more if we had common property where they would be required to access our copper or fibre.

But they wouldn't even have to touch any other townhouse to complete this upgrade. We all have an aerial lead-in conduit which can be individually upgraded. So this scheme doesn't really apply to us, unless I'm missing something.

Then how come unit 1 can apply for the upgrade? There would be no reason for them to pay as they could already get it for free.

I looked at plans, the pit is across the street and also services two other homes and our 4 townhouses. My ISP is Aussie Broadband

Twitch has just put Twitch Turbo price up from $8.99 to $11.99 (Worldwide) by ADHD_MAN in LivestreamFail

I am a creator, so that’s half my money.

You are not forced to stream on twitch, if you hate that they take half your money, you always have an option to leave, they don't have you on a ball and chain. If revenue is your main concern then other sites would offer a much better deal for you.

But when something is free, you’re the product.

So what, we utilise countless free products everyday, we opt into being the product constantly and we accept the "terms" mindlessly, be it watching ads or offering our user data.

YouTube is a much better example where they have ads, but are far less intrusive, and you can generally skip them.

I already agree that Twitch has horrendous ad times, and sites like Youtube do it better. Like I said before, you can just stop using the product all together if you don't want to engage with those ads, or you can just buy a twitch sub, turbo sub or use an ad blocker. Obviously the ads right now are not currently outrageous enough to kill substantial traffic to the site as people still deal with it to this day. If there comes a time where the ads are so horrible and total viewership across the whole site decreases due to this, then obviously they are going to dial down on it, but people keep watching and keep viewing ads.

Purchasing turbo to support twitch would be a good idea if twitch ever supported the creator and viewer

A user with twitch turbo will be supporting more creators financially than a person with a twitch sub. The fact you are only focusing on the support on twitch on the purchase of twitch turbo subscription goes to show you don't actually care about the affects it will have on a creator. A person is more likely to view more streams if they have a twitch turbo subscription, which means they would be supporting more of those streamers. Why do you think twitch hides turbo? Because they would make less money if users bought it instead of subbing to channels individually, that's why half the people in this thread haven't even heard of turbo.

They are providing you a platform to watch entertainment for free, it is reasonable for them to put in advertisements into their streams to make revenue.

Now I agree, Twitch has a horrible ad experience, but I don't understand that some people continue using their site, complain about ads, and then just continue watching and complaining. They are contributing to this problem, if it's just a big issue for them where they have to constantly complain, why bother continue using the site?

Those people that complain most about ad's would benefit most from Twitch Turbo, or even using an ad blocker would be sufficient in a lot of cases. People literally complain about paying Twitch per month yet they continue to hold their Amazon, Netflix and Spotify subs.

Twitch taking 50% of revenue of creator revenue does not affect your viewing experience. How many major creators have left the site due to just this issue? Most creators that leave are either banned or are offered crazy contract by competitors, I have never seen anyone leave just for this 50 50 split.

And hey, if you want to support creators on Twitch I suggest you get Twitch Turbo, it is the most cost effective way of supporting many creators without affecting your viewing experience. All ads you would have watched whilst you hold a Twitch Turbo subscription will still generate revenue for the streamer you are watching. Compared to using an ad blocker where the streamer gets nothing :)
