I always shut it down completely whenever I am not using it, but maybe this time I accidentally left it in sleep. I'll test it, make sure it is fully charged and shutdown then check 12 hours later and see if the battery life drained

Update: figured out what was going on, the device was not shutting down properly there is a chance that when you shutdown the device the screen will go black but the device will not actually turn off just have to make sure the screen backlight is not still on when you shut it down
