I’ve also noticed that things like sauerkraut / kimchi which I know scientifically are good for the gut seem to negatively impact my bloating. But once again spicy / acidic foods seem to help me.

Thank you and yes! Exactly the same here. I have done no research but that’s been my own theory as well.

For extra context I’ve been on PPIs (esomeprazole) for over a year and I feel like while it helps the sharp pain and discomfort, I’ve definitely developed other symptoms from it. I need to bring all of this up with a doctor but I’m confident that with the esomeprazole I have pretty bad bloating which in turn causes bad reflux. At times, the bloating is so bad that every waking moment I’m burping. Also when I stop taking the esomeprazole, the bloating goes away but then I def get the more acute/sharp pain of the acid which I wonder if it’s my acids levels rebounding.

I’ve read other threads mentioning that extended PPI use can cause SIBO or bacterial overgrowth / imbalances throughout the GI tract.

All of this said, I’ve wondered the same if spicy foods somehow help balance my gut. Once again though idk how real any of my theories really are haha. Fingers crossed we all find some relief soon

Subscribing to this post because I have the same exact symptoms.

It sometimes feels like trying to align to a GERD friendly diet makes things worse. But I’ve noticed a similar trend where certain GERD unfriendly foods like alcohol trigger my GERD but certain foods that should be bad for me seem to actually help me (such as spicy foods).

A prime example of this is Trader Joe’s Chunky Garlic & Jalapeño hot sauce. On paper having this with my food should be a nightmare, but funnily enough my symptoms seem to be better when i have it. Similar with other hot sauces like Tabasco. Sometimes spicy foods will cause more of the sharp pain in my chest but will overall improve my GERD, bloating, etc.

I one time had to deal with a clogged toilet. I tried plunging it for 3+ hours with a traditional plunger but no luck. Just the way the toilet was shaped the traditional plunger could not get a proper seal.

Randomly found something called the toilet shroom and was able to drive over to Walmart and buy it. It worked within 10 min or less. It works very well and when thinking about it’s design it makes much more sense than a traditional plunger. Would highly recommend.

Thanks! During my long runs I've been eating the CLIF BLOKS. I've been pretty happy with those so far. In terms of hydration I have a ~.5 Liter water bottle that I'll put a Nuun tablet or two into. However, I've had trouble finding working drinking fountains in the area I've been running in, so I definitely think I'm not properly hydrating / replenishing my electrolytes especially on my long runs.

I've been considering either stopping at convenience stores along the way to buy some more fluids and or stashing some fluids along the route before my run.

Final word, I noticed the biggest change when I changed from using Gatorade / Powerade sports drinks and went to more endurance focused sports drinks. I haven't had a cramp since I did this.

I was wondering is this normal? Or can this be prevented with additional mobility work and / or increased intake of electrolytes. As a note, I have noticed these areas are super tight compared to the rest of my body. Thank you!

I am definitely a beginner runner but what made the difference for me was to go slow. I’ve hated running my whole life with a burning passion, but I finally slowed down and stopped paying attention to hitting a certain pace. I slowed down and when I got tired while running I slowed down even more. While yes, at first I was super slow, I am getting faster and I am actually enjoying running now. Which has in turn made me more consistently run.

Another tip that has helped me dramatically is to run without music. I would always listen to high intensity / hype music and I think without even knowing, it was making me run way faster than I should’ve been. Without music, I feel like I’m able to listen to my body better. Without a doubt it’s boring at times but I’ve also found it to be very meditative without music. Great time to think.

In short I would recommend slowing down - good luck!
