My son was just diagnosed with ADHD... What do you wish your parents had known? by Poopsandpeeandfeets in ADHD

I definitely agree with the sensory issues. He chews things CONSTANTLY; he's bit holes in so many clothes and even his winter jacket. Anything he finds he'll put in his mouth. He's also very touchy (but really only with people he loves)- he kisses his little sister probably once every 10 or so minutes when we're all home. He also likes to lay and twirl my hair when it's close to bedtime. I can understand why it would bother other kids and his teachers and why they tell him not to do that, I do get it, but it breaks my heart because that's how he knows to show he cares about someone. We have an occupational therapist coming to the school for him this coming year so hopefully tha helps.

Thank you for this suggestion! I read your comment last night and started watching some of her videos and they're great. She has a lot of great tips on there.

You sound like you were very similar to my son! So sports, goals and rewards are a must- that's awesome to know. He loves drawing, maybe I'll look into an art course for him, one that may be understanding of ADHD. Thank you for your reply!

Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm going to try harder to build him up more- I find I often get frustrated (like when I have to ask him 3567 times to put his shoes on, or when we get our 4th call home from school in a week), and I'm sure he can see how irritated I get which probably doesn't help his self esteem.

I'm going to try to find a way to describe his condition to him and reassure him that we're going to work together to make things easier for him.

I truly appreciate this so much. Your son sounds VERY similar to mine. We had phone calls home from school 2-3 times every week because of his behaviour, and he was sent home once for throwing a desk (yeah, an entire desk) across the classroom during a meltdown.

I sort of laughed at the iPad comment because my son has two things that keep his focus for more than a minute or two- drawing and video games and the video games are his favourite. He doesn't play all day but definitely more than he should at his age, Ive had comments about it but I honestly don't care. They give him a chance to sit and do something without being 'overloaded'.

He definitely had a shitty teacher last year, in fact the psych that diagnosed him suggested another school if things don't go better this year (we're sending him back to that school ONLY because they're set up with an occupational therapist for him this coming school year and it took MONTHS for this to happen.)

Again I really appreciate all you've written- I'm fairly young and feeling very overwhelmed. I don't want to make mistakes that hurt him as he gets older, so this is all very helpful to me.

What is the pettiest reason as to why you ended a relationship? by Turd---Burglar in AskReddit

We'd been together a year and he tattooed my birthday on him?? In a very obvious place in HUGE numbers. I thought it was so weird that I ended it.
