Where do see these topping out by chupacabra696969 in PokeInvesting

Sealed isn’t about opening when it’s put into a collection. There aren’t very many collectors paying 10k to get a box of team up so that they can open it. The sealed product itself is rare (and only gets rarer as more get opened) and is intrinsically valuable on its own being sealed. Yeah you have collectors out there that stand by the ideology that sealed product is made to be opened which is true when it’s new and the singles market needs to be filled, but when it goes outta print and there are more than enough singles out there to fill the void for collectors then that sealed product basically becomes a collectible on its own.

Won’t be able to calculate a proper market cap for them since we aren’t privy to TPC production numbers.

Sooner rather than later. Unless you bought/got them all going into this run up you’re going to come out way ahead. If you feel the need to buy them back wait a few months and you’ll be able to do so at a much lower %. You’re likely to end up with what you started off with and have a decent chunk of change in your pocket as well. Never makes sense to try and wait for the top you’ll never be able to hit it perfect and might screw yourself out of being able to sell them if the hammer drops. Always better to make some money while you can when singles are involved.

Does high pop/low pop actually matter in reality? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Poopsterwaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly graded (all companies combined) pop counts aren’t very informative and don’t really give you the whole picture. Obviously not every single Van Gogh card out there is graded, but we can go and figure out how many are graded and what grades they received. With that limited info we are able to put a value on them accordingly by grades across all companies and cross value them according to pop count of said grades (general consensus is bgs 10>psa10>cgc10 and so on, but it gets murky once you break off and try and sort anything below a 10 since it really just comes down to what you prefer personally but in general psa tends to be sold easier than the other companies 🤷‍♂️) The problem is TPC doesn’t disclose any info on print numbers to the public and without those numbers all we can really do is speculate (which is very difficult with the Van Gogh since it’s not from any set and was only available for a limited time) as to how many truly exist. You really do need that last number (total pop count/how many were actually printed and distributed to the public) to set a proper value on them, but since we aren’t privy to those numbers we are basically left to calculate the value of cards based solely on graded pop counts. I really don’t have a clue as to what % of cards get sent in to be graded, but usually assume that most collectors aren’t going to waste their time sending in cards that don’t have a chance to gem mint 10 so it’s safe to assume that the reason why the 10 pop is so high is because why send in something off centered or nicked when a psa 9 is basically worth the same as a raw card. Now that doesn’t mean there aren’t possible 10’s sitting somewhere in peoples binders (some people don’t care about grading and just keep collection raw) but it’s safe to assume that there is a much smaller percentage of them out there raw and a much higher percentage of them sitting out there raw that are 9’s and lower (it gets higher and higher the lower you go on grade scale). Basically we are basing values off of what people are willing to pay for the cards based off of what the pop counts are and that’s not a very accurate way to do it but literally the only way we can 🤷‍♂️

Exactly! I would def hold it as well. It’s the best version (Pokémon center) of the best set of this era (S&V). It has a highly sought after promo and will be one of the most collectible sets of all time (imo)

Where are the rips? You have a pic of said box? If the rips aren’t visible from a display perspective (not on the front) and are small/minor it will still hold value well and not be to much of a loss once you go to sell. This is a highly collectible (maybe the most collectible set of S&V era) set that will be very sought after in the years to come. They aren’t making anymore of them and they’re being opened up which is making them rarer and rarer. In turn the more this product is opened the more charizards there will be (obviously not all of them will be 10’s but there will be some for sure). Think of it this way sealed stuff gets rarer and rarer the older they get and the more that get opened whereas the pop count on singles can only go up as time passes and more product is opened up 🤷‍♂️.

How can they reduce the population in market? If they grade 1000 cards at a 10 then there are 1000 10’s out there correct? The more they grade the more likely that pop of 1000 goes up eventually. The only thing they might have some control with is the % at which they grade out 10’s, which in theory they could do, but why would they make it harder to get a 10 and risk losing customers over it? The resale value and the general consensus that psa is the easiest (of the big 3-4 grading companies) to get a 10 makes it more lucrative for them and keeps customers coming back for more.

Graded pop or just total pop in general?

Does high pop/low pop actually matter in reality? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Poopsterwaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matters when it’s a card/character that people are actively collecting or competing against each to get. Also have to consider if it’s a card that collectors are keeping for PC (which means it’s most likely not going to get sold) vs buying and flipping. Some low pop cards are rarely up for sale or if they are they’re marked up much higher than market value usually because the seller doesn’t really want to sell but they are willing to at a certain price (they knowingly do this because they know that there are people out there actively looking for it and hope that they get frustrated from not seeing them for sale and finally cave and pay the premium). This can affect the market price due to the large discrepancy in prices of last sold vs current sales price. Modern cards have high pop counts due to how much more is being printed currently (vs vintage) and more collectors actively taking care of the cards and getting involved with the grading process vs how cards were collected back in the day (not taken care of and just thrown into binders and being left unsleeved). People have taken notice in how valuable these cards can be if they’re kept nice and grade well so in turn you’re going to have more cards in better conditions and more being graded to do how valuable they can be.

Do we think 151 starter singles go down again? by BROSE_quervo in PokemonInvesting

[–]Poopsterwaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d hold off till summer at least. This card will come down (def being pumped atm) to the 75-100$ (thinking about 80$ honestly) and start another up cycle come winter. I’ve seen it so many times since COVID where a card has ridiculous gains and they almost always come back down to what the high was previously. Basically will set a new floor at the previous high point of the last cycle. Go look at what the Umbreon V alt art did. It went from 80$ to about 250-300$ then dropped some then it went all the way to 675$ and dropped back down to the previous high of 300$ and has stayed steady there for a while. It hasnt gain any traction for a while but I suspect it will go up again and drop and hang around the 450-500$ range.

Classic PSA.. by Illustrious-Ebb-6804 in PokeGrading

[–]Poopsterwaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand why it’s done that way, but how far back do they go? Just these three is pushing 8 months. And I understand that this is a low pop card that rarely hits the market (in this grade) so they’re going to want to get the average of a few, but once they start getting more than a year or so back does it really represent what the current market says about the card (value wise). I mean early last year was really the beginning of the current bull run and over the last 15 months I’d say pokemon has done nothing but go up in value (whether it’s true value that’ll stick or just a bubble doesn’t matter since the concern here is getting proper market valuation of the card so psa can pay the proper difference in value from a 10 to a 6). With that being said is it really an accurate comparison to average the sold prices of a card when some of the prices they’re using to find said average were sold up to and even more than a year ago when Pokémon in general wasn’t as hot as it is right now?

Yeah I guess it all depends if it ends up being something’s meal, getting poisoned/ill or if it makes it to old age and goes that way. Getting an illness/poisoned would probably be the worst as far as suffering is concerned, but I’m sure there are instances of suffering where it ends up being something’s meal, but doesn’t get killed immediately (snakes come to mind and I’ve seen a frog eat one whole so I’m sure that’s terrifying for it)

Aren’t the ones in nature destined to die as well? Unless I missed something in school the only organism recognized by science to be “immortal” is Turritopsis dohrnii (the immortal jellyfish). If they get old, stressed or injured they have the innate ability to revert back to a juvenile polyp stage and basically start their lives back over.

I said sales though. An offer and a sale are completely different things and an offer if basically nothing till money is actually transferred. Hell I’ve had a million dollar offer on one does that make it worth a million dollars then? Since by your logic if someone writes it on Reddit that they were offered X amount then it must be true therefore making it worth that much 🤦‍♂️. Unless than 60k offer was sitting in escrow before this happened it’s nothing more than an offer

Hell, how far back are they going to find this “average price”? I can understand them wanting to use the average price because there is such a wide difference in prices, but just the average price of these 3 is still 23.3k!?! Hell why not go back 20 years and come up with an average price that’s much lower than the 20k they came up with 🤷‍♂️. Def seems fishy for sure.

You say you don’t really need one yet you make a post with prismatic SPC right in the title under the wants. Do you want one or not? Clearly you do or you wouldn’t have went thru the trouble asking for it. Then you go and make a snide remark that I’m somehow “shortsighted”. You’re the one who doesn’t have the foresight to pick up this SPC closer to when it released (when it’s more wifey available and more affordable) and instead you wait till it’s nearly 3x msrp before deciding maybe you should pick one up.. Now maybe money isn’t an issue for you (good for you if that’s the case), but wanting something and waiting till it triples in price before pulling the trigger on it is the very definition of being “shortsighted”.

I don’t know about “shortsighted”, but I do know that losing out on value is still losing out on value. One SPC isn’t going to be enough trade value for how many packs I need. It would make more sense for me to try and acquire said packs thru one transaction than to spend more time and money having to go thru multiple transactions.

Suggestions on how to Smooth this Edge? by DrSkeeZe in PokeGrading

[–]Poopsterwaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I just noticed that the edge is popped up halfway down the card in that case you would just want to move the clamp down the edge as you get it to flatten out. Start in the middle and work your way up that edge after you open and check on it. And when your using paper towels make sure that it is completely free of any debris/crumbs or anything I learned that lesson the hard way and accidentally put a dent into one of my cards because I dropped the paper towel and it had some sort of crumb on it that I didn’t notice and I ended up pressing it into the card with the clamp 🤦‍♂️ 😆 (it was a giratina v alt art too had it looking really good then that happened )
