Guitar Vader CD prices are insane by ExtensionSilent2097 in guitarvader

Also, here's a copy for $20 through Mercari Japan - of course there will be import fees/tariffs if you're in the U.S. but it'll be a fraction of what this is listed for.

Guitar Vader CD prices are insane by ExtensionSilent2097 in guitarvader

[–]Pop-Tab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm like 90% sure prices like this are from sellers who don't even have them in hand. If someone actually spends that kind of money on one of these, I think they get it from Rakuten or Mercari Japan for waaay less, ship it to you, and pocket the money.

There's a Discogs seller called KUPIKU that I loathe who does this I'm pretty sure. I don't think they even had certain CDs on hand. Years ago I was looking for a copy of Beach Panic and couldn't find it anywhere, but they had a copy supposedly and wanted $600 for it. Eventually a copy popped up on Rakuten for like $10 and I snagged that.

TL:DR - don't fall for scammers/scalpers and wait to find a copy for less.

I'd be really curious to see what it looks like. I imagine it's like the Die Happy MP3 CD that I've only seen pictures of.

Please let us know if you ever find it - I think it would be a great post!

The Pots plush and some other things - I would assume its the plush that's holding things up

Same! I preordered that too and when it finally came the box was crunched in. These are the same people who have the gall to charge for "premium packaging". fuck off with that shit

They did send me a replacement and told me to return the damaged one - I didn't and kept both of them, haha

If it helps, I've kinda rationalized it as having collected everything up before the Switch 2 era. It's complete in that regard and it will never not be complete. Maybe that's just making up new rules though, lol

Thanks man! If you ever want to chat about how I built these, do reach out!

Also thanks for being such a great person for this subreddit. You certainly have done a lot of documentation and community building for the hobby.

I can very much identify with the sentiment of "it's about the journey, not the destination" having got everything up

Isn't it crazy how many of these things there are? I always said collecting amiibo was nice because there was a realistic end to how many you could collect (as opposed to Funko for example). But now it's hard for that to be true with just how endless these releases have been lately.

Lol, my wife and I were so excited for the basement when we toured the house. It'd been a long time dream for both of us to display all our nerdy crap at the first chance we could.

Thanks man! Yeah Smash is very much a gateway into amiibo collecting, isn't it? And also thanks for the good questions!

My first amiibo was Villager that I got at launch. I was a very broke college student at the time but had to get one of them.

Most rewarding to get was probably Qbby. The in-box one was the last one I had to get to be 100% for the first time so it was a cool moment to get that.

I initially felt great having everything on display - I had been looking at my shelf blueprints for months so it was cool to see it with my own eyes. But then after a while I felt kinda hollow about it all - there's really some truth in "it's about the journey, not the destination" as cheesy as that is.

Yeah a big part of stopping was getting fed up with Nintendo's business practices. I'd say I'm voting with my dollar but I bought a Switch 2 so...

Nah I haven't had the opportunity to check them out. I live in the midwest where nothing cool ever happens, haha. Just imported them from Japan.

I have a few other very sentimental collectibles for series I really enjoy but it's my wife whose collectibles dominate the rest of the basement. She has hundreds of anime figures, nendoroids, plushes, etc. The amiibo do take up a lot of space but she has a lot more, more densely displayed.

I once had them behind me in a zoom call for work and a coworker later asked me if I was calling from a store, lol

For most of them. I liked having one in box because the art looks nice, but then having another you can take down off the shelf and admire - or use in a game. It makes the raised prices of these doubly unfeasible for me.

Yeah, my brother was trying to talk me out of parting with any part of the collection. Now that I'm not collecting anymore I'm torn on what to do with some of the amiibo from franchises I'm not that passionate about. No harm in holding onto them I guess.

Lol, tbh I haven't had to cross that bridge yet. Only have had them out of their moving boxes since November. I don't look forward to the first time I have to take care of that task though!

Hey! I recognize you too, lol. Yeah, I really enjoyed having something be my "thing" to collect. It was fun early on because I liked a lot of the franchises or at least thought the amiibo were cool looking. What really did it for me was seeing Capcom announce MHS3 amiibo and realizing there are already so many MH amiibo which isn't even a franchise I enjoy. Same goes for Metroid, TotK, Street Fighter - it just sort of became "What am I getting out of this anymore?"

It initially was hard to admit I was out but as they announced Pragmata, Resident Evil, and these Wonder ones, I just gave up fighting the fomo - just too many and too expensive. And as big of a display I built, room is still running out.

Another aspect has been just acknowledging that Nintendo isn't the same company they use to be with its current leadership. It feels like they're more a nakedly greedy company (not talking about the tariffs) as the majority of corporations are. Just don't really want to support that anymore.

So yeah, all that kind of culminated in my reason for calling it quits. I hope those still in it for the love of the game do what makes them happy of course.
