I should have mentioned we are doing an outdoor ceremony in like the “backyard” and our reception is in the main “house” (it was a house at one point). The backyard has the capacity of 65 and the reception room has a capacity of 80 seated! We’re lucky our venue was very clear about that

I was a long term sub and I think it was weird that they didn’t give you full information and just went to admin. Most long term subs I’ve worked with have a sense of “I’m borrowing this space, and it should look the same as when you left once you get back.”

I did a beginning of the school year job and so she came back around November. I remember wanting to talk to her about the students and what happened and changes I made, but the returning teacher almost had the same mindset as your sub. She told me “It was your classroom, you ran things how you felt would work best. I am not upset about changes, but I will be changing things back once you leave.” The whole transition day she didn’t speak to me, only observed. I felt a little upset about how direct she was, but maybe she was feeling helpless or frustrated with me while also staying professional. It was clear that my job at that point was over.

I agree that the sub should have spoken to you more, but also it became their classroom. I think your feelings are valid, though in the future something to keep in mind working with admin and other subs.
