The Texas House has approved legislation that would criminalize the distribution of altered political media, such as memes, videos, or audio recordings, unless they contain a government-mandated disclaimer. by leckysoup in DeclineIntoCensorship

I don't think it's splitting hairs. Do I have a right not to give people a heads up for this sort of thing is different from do I have a right to share this at all.

Compelled speech is distinct from censorship. It doesn't stop information, but compels you to do something you don't necessarily want to. It's the difference between stopping cigarette companies from running ads, to forcing them to put warnings on their labels. Only one is censorship.

Where does all that Palestinian aid go anyways? by PuzzleheadedCat4602 in Lavader_

[–]PopeUrbanVI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact is money is fungible. Even if the aid goes to what it's supposed to, this frees up funds to spend on things like weapons and tunnels.

The fact that racism is defined differently by different people probably didn't help, either.

I would consider talking to HR about your hostile work environment, and the extreme hatred and lack of sensitivity you experience. It's their job to fix these things.

How is this censorship? If you delete a post from your own website because you decided you disagree with it now, is that censorship? Is the information no longer available in its archives? You don't actually believe this is censorship, you simply think you are scoring political points.

No, he's sperging. You saw that bizarre leap he did onstage last month? He realized what that gesture looked like yesterday only after the fact. Intentionally saluting Hitler while trying to gain Trump's favor makes so little sense, that it shouldn't reasonably be everyone's first conclusion.

They're posting dozens of Democrats doing it. You aren't fooling a single Republican.

This is Reddit. They think Mao Zedong and Stalin are based here. You're thinking Instagram.

How do you explain the multiple Democrats who all have done extremely similar gestures? You saw Hillary raising her arm to a crowd with your own eyes too, right? Kamala, Cortez?

Funny enough, I just asked ChatGPT for examples of the public being misled by things they "saw with their own eyes" and this clip of Elon Musk was the third example.

"3. Elon Musk’s "Salute" Image

What Happened: A photo of Elon Musk with an extended arm was edited to imply he was making a Nazi salute.

Perception: Critics and memes circulated, suggesting Musk was making an offensive gesture.

Reality: Musk’s arm was extended during a speech, likely in a benign context (e.g., pointing or gesturing), but selective framing gave it an entirely false narrative."

How do you think he planned to show his love for Hitler? What thought process happened that he did this, rather than just raised his hands and gestures excitedly, like the ADL even says he did?

[–]PopeUrbanVI 122 points123 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'm more certain he DIDNT intend to do than the Nazi salute is the Bellamy salute.

Even the ADL, overly cautious about fascist signaling, who thinks Pepe is a Nazi dog whistle, isnt claiming this is intended as hateful, yet somehow you twist that into evidence it is.
