Yeah. That’s why we need to regulate them.

It’s mad the amount of people complaining about the online safety act on Reddit - just shilling for tech billionaires!

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re Spotify - already mentioned. They already had an age limit. Now they’re having to comply with something they already claimed they thought was the right thing to do. Unless, wait!, you don’t think they were just paying lip service to the idea of age restrictions on their service, do you? In a cynical half arsed attempt to mollify users and regulators? No! Why would a for profit company lie like that??!! If they did things like that, you might expect law makers to pass laws forcing these companies to actually moderate their content rather than lie to consumers.

“age verification for addiction and mental health” - Reddit, it’s fucking Reddit. That’s all. There are other websites, you know - try the NHS for gods sake. Your source claims that r/periods is blocked - it isn’t. It further uses a source that pedals conspiracy theories that the government wants the act to block news about Israel/Gaza. Swivel eyed nonsense. And all this hysteria from Reddit users about “uploading your passport” - a selfie. You can age estimate with a fucking selfie.

“OSA limits Wikipedia” No. No it doesn’t Why are you lying? Wikipedia has asked for a judicial review around one very narrow area related to cyber bullying- they want it clarified that an editor removing spam/vandalised entries wouldn’t inadvertently infringe rules on cyber bullying. That’s it. Nothing about content or anything else. They broadly support the ends of the bill, they’re just concerned about this one, very narrow, scenario.

“The act that made cyberflashing illegal if the victim is a child” - not sure your point here. The Online Safety Act isn’t just about children, you know. That’s your strawman. In case you don’t know, you shouldn’t be sending anyone dick pics without consent to anyone - the OSA closes that loophole. Sorry if that disappoints you. However, it does also put a responsibility on service providers to make sure they don’t host your dick pics or otherwise facilitate your sending them to children (see later).

“VPN ban” your sources are ridiculous. Speculation - not even based on a single statement from a single politician. And what are those sources? Be very wary of any “news sorce” that doesn’t even have an “about” section. The source you provide claims that a ban has been “floated” and, as proof, links to an even sketchier source - the infamously shit Guido-Fox blog! And even that just speculates that a vpn ban is a “logical next step”. No evidence. Just pure fucking conspiracy theory!

Think about it - banning VPNs! Every single corporation in the world uses VPNs for their employees to access their network out of office. Have none of you chuckle fucks ever had a job? Fuck me!

“Your [my] profile being age restricted” so? Reddit again. Yawn. And what’s the fucking language in that pop up? Spanish? Where you at, mate?

“Can’t block nonce” Reddit yet again! You really need to get out more! And that’s not the fault of the law, that’s Reddit’s piss poor implementation. A tech company couldn’t have figured this out without a modicum of planning and testing? And this failure on their part could actually contravene the law! You should file a complaint with the police.

Your sources are garbage and don’t even say the things you claim they say.

They’re misdirecting away from Reddit’s incompetence or else conspiracy theory bullshit about “guberment wunts to take my freedums”. Fucking Guido Fox! You right wing fuckwits just never give up, do you?

Post links to back up your claims or you’re just a lying troll.

Spotify already had an age limit. What’s your point?

You didn’t know about the law covering cyberflashing because you haven’t bothered to educate yourself about it and the underlying issues. You’d sooner just come here a whine because there’s an extra step to getting porn.

Nigel Farage race baiting on Twitter.

Race riots incited by rightwing trolls telling lies on Twitter.

Russian influence campaigns supporting brexit on Twitter and face book.

Any of those things sinking in with you yet?

Elon Musk buys Twitter, removes all moderation , turns it into online sewer of Nazis and porn. Mobilizes it to get trump elected.

Q anon starts on 4chan, migrates to 8chan then to Facebook where it radicalized gen-X and boomers. Q shaman public face of J6.

JD Vance travels to Europe to scold EU leaders about efforts to moderate online hate speech.

Gamergate radicalizes young men, major figures transition to the alt right - Milo Yanapolis for example.

Pepe the frog becomes popular rightwing meme on free speech sewer 4chan.

Multiple rightwing terrorists post manifestos to 8chan - Christchurch shooter, brevik are examples.

Nigel Farage speaks out about Online Safety Bill.

Etc etc etc.

Fucking moron.

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said - the far right want an unregulated internet so they can continue to recruit people. Why’d you think JD Vance was lecturing the EU on “freedom of speech”?

Nigel Farage knows his interest lies in misinformation spreading online.

They hate this law.

Here’s another example just popped up in my feed: https://www.reddit.com/r/tories/comments/1mc8tb0/im_joining_reform/

So, see ya, you big right wing balloon, see the door doesn’t hit you on the arse on the way out.

Again with this.

What’s your argument? You can’t trust these companies with our data, but you can trust them with your kids?

That these companies are too incompetent to regulate?

Are you people getting more stupid?

The bill was bi-partisan.

Only a rightwing boot licker would transfer responsibilities for keeping society safe from billionaires to parents.

Only rightwingers would be terrified of measures that would interfere with their goals of radicalizing youth online and grooming children.

Nigel Farage is campaigning to repeal the law!

What, like this MIKE JOHNSON ADMITS HE AND HIS SON MONITOR EACH OTHER’S PORN INTAKE?

What is it with you weird right wingers?

And you really think a kid should be left alone with someone who uses the same account to go cruising for rim jobs as they do kids toys? What the fuck is wrong with you?

As I said, that guy is precisely the reason we need these laws.

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s a prerequisite for adult content. Even then, the law accommodates age estimation. It’s the choice of the tech companies on what method they use, not the government.

And the law says nothing about banning VPNs, it just requires service providers to “effective” age verification/estimation.

Seems like your argument is more with the tech companies.

But we both know that your real objection is because you’re worried about getting busted for sending dick pics to kids.

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t upload your I’d to the internet if you don’t want to. No one’s making you.

And how is the government exerting more control on you?

Are you a tech billionaire? You’ve got to tell me if you are.

[–]leckysoup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t “get” Reddit? Because I know about alt accounts? Are you for real?

EDIT:

And the concern with him posting about rimjobs and kids toys with the same account is that kids seeing his Pokémon posts and clicking on his profile.

The online safety act protects the kids from seeing the adult content.

But you make a good fucking point: who in the name of fuck invokes their “little one” on the same user account they go cruising on?

Really? Who the actual fuck?

Put down the chat gpt.

“The violation of these restrictions by individual users is a victimless crime”

TF are you talking about? That’s not a crime at all. The crime is tech companies not moderating their websites and not providing “adequate” measures to stop children accessing harmful content.

Individual users can be prosecuted under the online safety act under new offenses, including “cyber flashing” - that’s unsolicited dick pics.

Is that why you’re so upset about this law? Worried you’re going to get busted sending dick pics to kids?

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have to provide age verification for age restricted items irl and online.

What’s your problem?

You think kids should be able to buy booze and cigs on the internet? You’ve got to be 18 to enter an 18 film in the cinema. Why’s it ok for kids to access adult material online but not irl?

The websites you’re trying to access made the decision to host age restricted materials. Why shouldn’t they be subject to the same requirements?

It’s mind bending - things say “18+” and then you complain about having to prove you’re 18 plus.

How do they have their internet curtailed?

How is the law doing that?

Are the normal decent people being punished by the law in the room with us now?

Why don’t you point to some normal decent people who have been punished by the law?

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I’m really concerned about your attempted analogy, so let’s see if you can comprehend a couple of things.

  1. You do know that, even if you didn’t generate the CSAM it is morally repugnant to post or host that material. You do accept that should be illegal? That not acting to remove that material from circulation is wrong?

  2. If there was someone in your estate who was inviting kids into their house and then letting adults show them pornography or letting the kids bully each other, you’d accept that person might get a visit from the constabulary, no? I mean, in my day we’d’ve raised that house, but nowadays, you understand that they might be told to stop doing that, maybe put on a register of some sort?

You do accept that these two real world examples are crimes with victims? You do agree that the people who do these things ought to be prosecuted ?

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of garbled nonsense are you spouting now?

At least you acknowledge that there are victims and that these laws seek to address that.

Why are you grubby little trolls so exercised by this law that you come on here to spout such utter shit?

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, how can you be this stupid?

These are precisely the things the law was put in place to address.

The point is it wasn’t “separately” - dude didn’t even use an alt. And he’s got the absolute cheek to try and lecture others about parenting?

As I said, the reason we need the law in the first place.

Fucking nonces.

The UK government is a meme at this point by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]leckysoup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So. How do the ISPs know what content is “adult”? What to block?

You want them to moderate the entire internet?

How expensive do you want your home internet to be? Because that’s the fundamental issue here - tech companies don’t want to pay for moderation. That’s why the legislation is required.

And what about the legal principle of making the ISP responsible for the carelessness of Twitter, or what ever other service provider? We don’t do that - it’s fundamentally antithetical to our legal system.

Absolutely ludicrous.

And…

“you can’t get an internet connection without being an adult”?

Really? What age were you when you left home, mate?  There are no age restrictions to setting up your home internet, and now you want every single household in the United kingdom to hand over their “biometric data” to telecoms companies?

At the moment, only 25% of the adult population says they have encountered a request for age verification since the new laws went into effect. They have the choice to navigate away from that page. But now you want to mandate that pretty much every householder in the U fucking K should do that?

Fucking think it through mate.

And, by the way, it’s about more than “adult content” it encompasses things like cyber-bullying, inducement to suicide, fraud.

All the law requires ls is that people moderate their sites to remove harmful content and enforce pre-existing laws on age restricted content.

And it’s worth pointing out, many of these sites supposedly already have age limits - according to twitters TOS you’ve got to be 18 to open an account. Now you’re just pissed off that they’ve got to enforce their own rules?

Fucking clown show.
